I have a feeling most people like Peyton Manning. I'm not one of them.
Being a Patriots fan, I consider the Colts to be the Yankees to my Red Sox. Granted the success ratio over the last 10 years isn't comparable, I think over the last 5 years the Colts/Pats clashes have been one of the most anticipated match-ups of the season each time they square off.
Some of the factors that make me dislike Manning are:
-He is the best player and the face of the Colts. A team that on an given Sunday may knock the Patriots out.
-The media loves him, and I believe, want to see him win the big one....which in turn means beating the Patriots.
-He has outplayed Brady and beat the Patriots in Foxboro the last 2 seasons.
-It seems, and I may be perceiving this incorrectly, he is generally the favorite in just about every single matchup. An enormous amount of respect for the Marty Schottenheimer of players.
-He is a Manning. Even though it worked out great for San Diego, I still hold negative thoughts over the whole Eli draft situation. That seeps into him as well.
So as you can see my reasons are nothing personal. A couple of the reasons are downright stupid. I know he is an incredible player, who seems very thoughtful and intelligent. He seems to always say the right thing, and you can tell he means it. I also think his commercials are hilarious and give him big props for ALWAYS answering the tough uncomfortable questions like a man. In many ways he is sort of like Derek Jeter without the rings.
I used to hate him. I think the Pats winning 3 titles has softened me a bit where now I can let some of that go. But he still scares the Bejeesus out of me for this Sunday, and I hope I see the "Manning Face" all evening as he gets killed by the Patriots at home. In the world of sports, when your favorite team has a #1 rival, you simply can't like the Alpha Dog on that squad. Man law.
That's why I'm going "Don't Like Him".
