How do you handle this - Buying tires edition (1 Viewer)

The General

Footballguy
Bought new tires on Saturday. One was flat on Sunday. Brought it in this morning they said it wasn't put on quite right - forgot exactly what the guy said. He fixed it, said he checked the others.

Its losing air again this afternoon, had to bring it back in. Sitting in this waiting room for the 3rd time in three days waiting to see what they say this time.

What do I ask for? Nothing - #### happens, a partial refund, a new tire?

I always get screwed in these situations or end up feeling like a ####.

Was the same guy as this morning. He said he made a mistake and was super apologetic. He did forget to reset this tire pressure warning thing my car has so for a moment I thought he had messed something up again as I began to drive off.

Said he couldn't give a discount but would do an alignment for me next time I need one.  Don't even know if I'll use it.

Same guy was there from my morning visit. He said he made the mistake, fixed the tire again, apologized numerous times ultimately said he couldn't do any type of refund or discount. He did give me his card and said he'd do my alignment for free in the future.

As I was driving out this sensor thing on my dash went off saying the tire pressure was low. I was very pissed at this point but realized that he didn't recalibrate the thing, which I get because it he probably didn't even know he had to do it. This wasn't the dealership so don't expect them to know every in and out on every type of car.

If I have anymore problems I will probably freak out on someone at the shop but as of now just chalking it up to bad luck.

Gotcha. Didn't know if the sensor thing was from last visit and the reason it was low again or something new from when you just left.

  I pretty much retyped it all out again as you posted this...

What really gets me pissed in these situations is when I have to ##### or point something out to get something back. It almost gets me more pissed when I complain and then they give me something. If they know they are going to kick something back to me I shouldn't have to point it out to them.

Some people are really good at this stuff, I am usually getting the short end.

Commit this to memory - "I buy my tires from Costco"
Didn't think of them. I went to this place that generally has a good reputation in my area and has shops all around the area.

Honestly this was the first thing I haven't had done at the dealership  :bag:  I usually don't mind paying a bit extra just to have less hassle. Thought getting new tires should be very simple.

Just got a set from Sam's last week. That's where I go every time. They have the cheapest prices around, in these parts anyway. Plus you can go hit the snack bar and meander around the aisles while waiting.
I get tires at Sam's also.  Plus they will do repairs (patches) for free.  I usually get batteries there also.

Not sure if it applies in your situation but I've had this happen before with older chrome wheels. Sometimes the hole around the valve stem gets rusty or  gains sharp edges. It just won't seat properly or damages the rubber. Try metal valve stems.

Another is that with all the different balancing weights added to different parts of the rims they get pretty dinged up. Along with the fore mentioned rust and chrome flaking it seems to not allow the bead to seat firmly as it's irregular.

Could be a bad tire or improper install too like they told you. Just sayin. GL.
