I have played a lot of cards in my day (spades, pitch, pinochle, etc.) but I have never played this game.

I played with two dudes that tried to convince me you stick your score cards up behind your ears once you're in the barn and then they did this weird thumb milking thing.

It was rad.

So Michigan must be the 5 and 5 place, that's where I'm from and what we use if there are not any euchre score counters available.

I'm from Michigan originally btw.  6/4 just seems like a weird combination.  The 5s seem much more straight forward.
I think it's so you can have two cards of the same suit. The ears and milking guys said it was bad luck to mix suits on the counters.

Weird.  We just kept to reds and blacks, but even that wasn't a steadfast rule or anything.  It's not like we were suitists or anything.

Since the 6 is two rows of 3s, it makes it convenient to score the odd numbers.  5/5 seems more awkward.  I think you'd have to do some weird diagonals.

Edit:  The more I think about it, it probably doesn't make all that much difference.

6/4 unless I'm playing with my in laws. FIL keeps score on paper. Or a bunch of them have mini cribbage board looking things with pegs/toothpicks. Beer can tabs go over the pegs when you get set.

I've never kept score in Euchre on paper. Then again, I've pretty much only played in bars. Oh, and once in a conference room in a hotel right outside a bar against a couple really drunk guys that wanted to play for a lot of money. Chaching!

Bong Euchre - college, '76 - '78, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.  Though it went on well after me.

Note:  always 6/4.

If you don't have a lot of pot:  one-hitter awarded to the team that reaches 6 first and the same thing to the winning team.

If you have a lot of pot:  the team reaching 6 pts first gets to pack the one-hitter for the other team (individual bowls) - then the same for when someone wins.  It was important that a guy could take ALL of the one hit in one take.  Kind of like shooting a beer - don't ##### out before you are done in one chug.  The idea would be to find a nice, tight bud that would grow and grow after being lit.  This would make the guy "woof it" ...basically, have snot and drool everywhere and a several minute coughing fit - along with bloodshot eyes for the better part of the day.

Bong etiquette:

1)  you are never allowed to pack your own bong (unless you are alone). Why? Good manners.  It probably goes back to serving tea, I mean you don't pour your tea man.  Also, if you don't have a lot of pot, it prevents someone from hogging too much for their one-hitter.  (real reason).

2)   when guests arrive at your dorm room or apartment, you must offer them a "gratuity" one-hitter as a welcome.

5/5 here.  NE Indiana, German/Lutheran.  Although we generally prefer bid euchre, ideally 5- 6- or 8-handed.  Or Pedro

I think the Catholics use 6/4.

I'm from Michigan and have used and seen both 5-5 and 6-4 used.  If I have to choose, the 6-4 is slightly better thanks to the 4 having the marks spread out more so less chance of confusion when the score is in the 1-3 or 7-9 range.

I remember learning "6 over 4, score no more" when I was a kid.  Always had to keep score with the 4 card on top of the 6 card in my family (Midwest).

Just to further muck this up, my grandma taught me to use 2/3 but not the way the link there shows. She used the little symbols too, so count to 5 on the "3" and then the last 4 on the "2". At 10 it's over. From searching this online I can see it's not the "correct" way to count with 2/3.

Edit - this might have been because I was like 5 and couldn't understand the other way.

You 6/4 card users are weirdos!

The key to 2/3 is to see the "V" as roman numeral V...

Haven't played euchre since college. Used to play nearly every weekend. Good times.

Western New York....was raised on 6/4 but have played with friends who are 2/3 players and know how to read the scoreboard in either setting.  I generally prefer 6/4.

What? Western ny and I've never seen or heard of anything but 2/3.

This thread is blowing my mind

My parents were always 6/4 players so I learned from them.  Most of my friends are 2/3 players.  Both of my parents are from Tonawanda, maybe it's a Tonawanda thing?
