I am not making the assumption that this is possible, but if you were to pull it off, how would you do it? For simplicity's sake, let's assume 1 QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1K ( no def) and it's scoring only with 5 bonus points at 100 yards rushing or receiving and also 300 yds passing.
(For reference Shaun Alexander scored 223 Carson Palmer 203, Steve Smith 128, and Gates 135, al #1 in the respective positions in 2005)
Now this particular league will always draft 3-5 QB's in the first round. The playoff teams from last year had Peyton, Palmer, Mcnair, and Culpepper(oops!) and I suspected it was more than a coincidence.
My gut feeling is that in order to pull this off you'd ideally like to grab Manning as late as possible, but he has gone 1st overall a couple times, so, make no assumptions about the draft slot(12 team), and remember, Rbs will not be drafted as fast as most RB stud leagues.
MY opinion
1. and 2. If you grab Manning in the first round, it would have to be towards the middle.
On the way back you can grab one of Dodds 14 Elites (or a 5th ranked REC think Owens, Moss, Harrison-but I'll pass)
3. I'd take a REC here, assuming 14 elites are gone now. Probably Djax, S Moss or Driver
4. Here now your looking at Julius Jones/D Foster area. REC's starting to all look the same(Plax, Glenn, Roy Williams). Might even consider taking a top TE ( Gonzo, Crumpler) Noticed still some quality QB's left ( Favre, Plummer)
5. Warrick Dunn? Ch Taylor? Also looking at Matt Jones territory, maybe Mason or Stallworth around still.
6. TE thinning, need to get one if you haven't. Watson will be gone ( NE homers LOL). LJ Smith?
7. Get a kicker. Surprisingly 2 kickers made the top ten overall scorers in this particualr league, but there is little separation from 1-16 top K's. Then again, maybe it's not that surprising given the scoring only format, but does this really affect the draft?)
So let's see ( and I'll try to be realistic)
Manning
L Jordan
D Jackson
Cory Dillon ( Bush? Not a good format for him, might slip)
Terry Glenn
Cooley
Elam
VS -waiting typical 2 rb scenario
Plummer
Steven Jackson
Edge
Driver
Matt Jones
Cooley
Elam
Peyton outscored Plummer by 58 points last year, whereas the SJ/Edge combo oustscored Jordan+Jackson by 90. So as you can see it didn't work out IMO. But can it?? Or should I just not be a follower, and just grab as much as I can and live with Kitna or Warner? Maybe take 4 QB's..It's just so reassuring when you don't have to worry about your QB. CPEP gave me a bad heart least year..
