How do you stop the read-option in Madden 16? (1 Viewer)

I've got a 16 man annual tournament tomorrow.  Same guy (no kids, about 10 years younger than everyone else) has won the last two seasons.  He just runs read option constantly.  We are all just a bunch of ham and eggers.  I didn't even play the game until last week.  This thing is called the Madden Drunkfest and is a lot of fun.  Being in our 40s everybody brings good food and drink.  But this punk just schools everyone with the read option.  Is there a good article or video out there on stopping it?

I know there are some pretty avid gamers on here.  I just want a punchers chance if I play the guy.  The guy who is putting the tournament on said he is going to focus on getting him drunk early, so that's one strategy.

Corner blitz's. You just need to know which side he is running it too. A corner blitz helps seal the edges. Play as the LOLB or ROLB and the let the corner pressure him into cutting right into your area. If he goes outside the corner will at least get some contact on him and then slow he momentum.

It works a lot.

You could also hot route the opposite CB to blitz so you have a double CB blitz and not have to guess which side he is running too.

Don't you expose yourself though with running corner blitz so often?

Also so when you bring the corner are you taking the olb from the same side or opposite side?

I like using a 3-4 base defense if my opponent is always running read option. Double CB blitz, have one ILB spy the QB, one ILB man cover the RB. OLBs play zone coverage out in the flats. Seems to work pretty well.

The triple option on NCAA football '14 is another story - ridiculously overpowered play.

I haven't played Madden 16 enough to know whether this works there, but in NCAA '14, you can assign the defense to concentrate on the "give" by pursuing the running back every time. That forces your opponent to keep with the QB or have the play stuffed. So you have to user control a Safety to be the alley defender. Doing so out of Cover 4 (using the safety lined up on the same side as the opponent's RB), you need to be willing to crash that alley super aggressively as soon as you see a read-option type action. And you need to make the tackle.

This tactic leaves you vulnerable to a PA pass up the seam, but I'd rather deal with that than get chewed up by the zone read.

I am not saying it to run it often. But if you have an obvious cheeser who is running a read option offense all day (we know it is over powering) then CB blitz will seal the edges and you force the the play nside often. Hit route the MLB to QB spy and play as either OLB to the side you anticipate the runner to stuff him. If he goes outside the CB' are crashing in on him behind the line. He will get frustrated. You call that knowing if he is running that play. The idea is getting him in 2and long and third and long. Force him to pass.

You Tube that question and you will probably get a bunch of good strategies. The goal is to get him so frustrated he will have to abandon that tactic.
