How does Cutler starting affect Rod Smith? (1 Viewer)

When Plummer started, Walker was by far the 1st WR option, and Smith was a far distant second. I can't remember when Smith had such a subpar season. With a new QB, does anyone believe that Smith's numbers will moderately improve? Does anyone know what rapor Cutler has had with Smith during practice, or in training camp? I would think Smith has nowhere to go but up, even with a rookie at the helm.

Rod is showing his age, but Cutler will make him look WAAAAYYY better than Plummer did. I believe that Jay will get Rod mixed into the offense early and often. Walker's #'s will be fine, and Smith's will improve. The TE's #'s will also improve. The WR's love the fact that Jay won't lay them out to dry like Jake did.

How can anyone answer this question intelligently when Cutler has yet to throw a single NFL pass?

We have no idea how this will affect these guys - and we have no idea if Shannie has put in plays utilizing Cutler's talent or whether he plans to keep the same playbook.

Denver is currently the 26th ranked passing offense in both yards and TD's. If you own Rod Smith, who is averaging only 4 fantasy ppg, you have to be excited about this change.

Well, it can't get any worse, right?
Exactly. Also, it seems obvious now that Tatum Bell is the best Denver RB so if he truly is healthy enough to be effective, that can only benefit Cutler and the passing game as well.
The guy has turf toe in both of his feet. He will be in and out all season.

That's why I said healthy enough to be effective. Mike Bell wasn't providing any kind of a running threat so, just like at the QB position, can it get much worse?

Why do people keep blaming the RB - I think the loss of Lepsis has f-ed up both the running game and Plummer.

Unless they correct that loss, Cutler might struggle as badly as Plummer (but it is hard to see him as worse, so . . . )

Finally, as sensible post... so long as it's read for possible sarcasm. Cutler may not be the panacea everyone is getting hot/heavy for.
it was partially sarcastic - I am NOWHERE near as confident as others that Cutler in the lineup means any kind of bump for the passing game - or any specific receiver. Just that it can't get any worse.
