How drunk was Namath during the halftime interview (1 Viewer)

This totally changes my perception of Joe Namath. The first time I heard of him was on the Brady Bunch when he visited the family. All I knew about him was that he was a great quarterback, great guy, girls had crushes on him, and he visited your house if you wrote him a sad letter.I can't believe he is not like he was on the brady Bunch.
LOL!!! Next we'll be discussing the morals of whether Peter truly should have risked his life to save the kid from the falling shelf in the toy store... :excited:

GDB all you Monday morning quarterbacks... :P Like any one of us HOF QB's who may have knocked back a couple in celebration with the boys of our youth...and then been asked to do a quick sideline spot with the resident ESPN hottie (who by the way is no more there for her journalistic prowess then are you or I HOF QB's!) I'm sure Joe Willie wishes he had maybe one or two less cold ones before being invited to do that spot. However... If you have ever had to suck it up and do your best impromptu (thats spur of the moment) sober impersonation for future in-laws, potential employers and that ilk- you know how hard that can be. As an admitted big-time Joe Wille fan from back in the day, (with an uncle who helped operate his football camp for years and will vouch for his reknowned "real guy" rep) all I can say is Joe once again gave it his best shot under less then ideal circumstances and gave us a thrill...perhaps vicariously, but a little thrill none the less... He tried to give a sincere, credible answer to the usual mundane sideline question... ...and tried to win the girl with that which is Joe Willie Namath...My maaannnn!! :thumbup:edited to add that he did so while maintaining a PG rating- maybe even G!- in spite of his rep for shaggin' babes in his heyday!

I can't believe this thread is still going. It's even harder to believe the crazy subthemes that have developed (Happy marriages defined; Did Joe sexually harass Suzy?). To get back to the original question, Joe appeared pretty drunk from the get-go. His answer to Suzy's first question made it clear he was drunk, even without the "kiss" comment. Despite this, after a play on the field, the announcers went back to Suzy so she could ask a second question. Maybe nobody knew before the interview that Joe was drunk. But once his first answer removed all doubt, Suzy should have ended the interview right there in a professional manner, without any acknowledgement of Joe's dopey behavior. For whatever reason, she did not. Thus, Joe was given further opportunity to embarrass himself and he took full advantage of that opportunity. Maybe Suzy had planned for a lengthier interview and so ESPN could be correct when it said they cut it because of Joe. So, to sum up, Joe acted like a drunken a##, Suzy used poor judgment in asking a follow-up question, Joe didn't sexually harrass Suzy, he just embarassed himself, and I am glad he did as I found the segment to be freaking hilarious. I don't care for sideline interviews in general but I absolutely hate them when they happen during action on the field. At least this one provided entertainment.

Yes, I'd say that sums it up nicely. I, for one, have not changed my opinion of Broadway Joe one bit. It should have been obvious to Suzie that he was drunk before she ever interviewed him. It made for great entertainment imo. Just my 2-cents.
