How frequently do you experience headaches? (1 Viewer)

Migraines a couple times a week if I'm not careful.

Still trying to nail down the exact triggers that bring them on.

So far this is what I found that causes them.

- Dehydration - Drink water. Coffee and soda do not hydrate. An earlier poster stated that he would get headaches in the winter .. but not after he got a humidifier.

- Lack of sleep - Stayin up late to watch football? That'll cost me.

- Nitrates - Foods high in nitrates trigger a migraine within less than an hour of consuming. Bacon, Doritos, Chinese Food, Hot Dogs. Beware.

Any of these have triggered a migraine for me ... any combination of these will knock me on my ###.

Over the counter pills are almost useless as they only dull the pain.

My doctor prescribed me a migraine medication. Tiny little pill that constricts the blood vessels in your head and relieves the pressure.

Doesn't mask the problem, it fixes it. It's not a pain killer so safe to proceed with normal activities.

I'd recommend anyone that gets migraines to tell your doctor and have this medication handy.

My headaches almost always start high up on the back of my neck and then move around to the front of my head and behind my eye. I keep meaning to track it, but I’m pretty sure they alternate; one time it’s on the left and the next time the right. They are manageable as long as I don’t let them progress too much. As long as I take drugs early or ice or massage, the pain doesn’t get too bad. If I don’t, they can be quite painful. I use a tennis ball a lot to massage the areas on my neck (or sometimes shoulders). I have a tennis ball that I keep in the car and at night when I sleep.

I can pretty much always feel something in my neck/head and they probably turn into legit headaches a few times a week.
High stress job?

No. I’m rarely stressed...I think. I stress about money at times, but that’s about it and I ultimately know that we are good financially. Also, I’ve had headaches back to my teen years.

Same here.

I think it may serve me better at times to get one after drinking a lot to serve as a governor but I really never get one at any time.

Caffeine can help.

And caffeine withdrawal can spur them if you normally consume quite a bit of it.
My caffeine intake used to be restricted to chocolate and sweet tea, nothing much. After reading this I tried drinking some coffee when I felt a headache emerging. Small headaches became LARGE headaches very quickly. It's possible they were going to become large headaches anyway and it's just anecdotal, but it definitely didn't remedy the problem at all.

Still, I appreciate the advice. If it worked for me, that would have been outstanding.
