How long is AJ out? (1 Viewer)

Already ruled out for week 4, reports say still in the immobilizer Sunday, and not much new news. I'd say that's a bad recipe.

My SPECULATION is that when you take into account healing and practice time to get back up to speed, we're looking at after their week 10 bye.

That would mean he will have missed 11 weeks. That is over double what the expected recovery time is. All reports i've heard said 5 weeks at the most, and that was 2 weeks ago.

I think holding on can be worth it if you have 3 or 4 other quality WRs on your roster (unlikely?). Fitz last year might be a good comparison. Out for 3 or 4 weeks, 1 or 2 weeks to get back up to speed, then plays up to expectations for the rest of the year.

coolnerd is excellent at keeping this thread updated with current news. If anything breaks around here locally, he's usually very quick to update...

Post #30 has the latest on AJ, compliments of coolnerd...

Johnson will not return this week, either. Sunday was the first time he was allowed to bend his knee since suffering the sprain Sept. 16 against the Carolina Panthers.

Johnson sprained the posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee, and must wait until they both heal.

"It's like I'm learning to walk normally again," Johnson said. "I've been in a brace for the whole week. Now, I have slack in my brace where I can bend my knee."

I'm all for speculation, and I do realize and appreciate you listed it as such, but doubling the outside of the recovery time listed by the Texans (said he would be out 2-5 weeks) based on "not much news" seems pretty baseless, but who knows.

My opinion is that the timeframe listed by the Texans was nothing more than speculation. "Could be one week...could be four" doesn't make me feel good that four is the absolute max. It sounded more like they really had no idea.Again, just guesing, but if he can bend his knee before week 4, maybe he'll walk around a bit before week 5, light jogging week 6, running a bit week 7, light practice week 8, practicing week 9 and then bye week. Best case, how do you see it?

Are you a doctor? Because unless you are this is essentially as good as me saying I think he'll play next week. All we can do is wait and see.

The dude didn't tear his ACL or MCL. He sprained it. Andre said himself he has little to no experience with injuries. That aside, I would estimate it will probably be another week before he begins running. Maybe he plays in week 5. I would expect to see him week 6.

If he's still in his brace after week 3, I'd be surprised if he's in game-shape and ready to go for week 5 or 6. But perhaps you're right and he's a very fast healer.

Well, the Texans darn well better have someone on staff that knows something about injuries. This situation is leading me to believe that there is more going on than just a sprain.

Well, it's not like AJ was not in game shape before the injury. I highly doubt a week in an immobilizer would negate months and months of preparation for the season. Once he starts running again, it will not take him long to regain the form he had in Week 2.
