Parameters...

1. Adult Male. 40 years old. Healthy (no metabolic disorders, not physically limited, no cancers etc)

2. 6ft 180 lbs starting, not overly muscular but would be considered 'fit-looking'.

3. Cannot use any non-food or drink products not generally recognized as 'normal food.'  I.E. - no massive drugging, can't only drink shakes or protein smoothies etc. Minimum one 20oz supplement per day (protein shake, meal bar etc)

4. Must still be able to maintain 40hr week work schedule.

And here I thought you had a player in mind that had been asked to switch positions or something...

I just worked a 6-day BBQ festival in Reno/Sparks slingin hot sauce. With just a stitch less self-control I'm pretty sure I could gain 100 lbs in about, uh, 6 days.  :lmao:

took me 30 years to gain 50 lbs of solid muscle not fat....weighed 150 lbs when i was 15 and started working out...im 51 now and i weigh 200 solid year round...the most i ever weighed was 210 but that was just for one summer

I think there was a Simpsons episode about this.  Don't remember how long it took but it wasn't long. Of course, that's a cartoon so maybe not applicable here.

I award you 1,000,000 internet points for this response.

Try not to spend it all in one place.

I assumed OP meant 100 lbs. of muscle and voted 36+ months.

If we're just talking about in genera thoughl, I could see someone doing it in a year. Even then, it would be a huge chore.

Substitute a Sausage McMuffin breakfast meal for your currently sane breakfast.  Add a midmorning smoothie with ice cream instead of yogurt and maybe a teaspoon of sugar or so.  For lunch go with pork, pork ribs, pork chops, pork roast, pork, and then maybe some French fries and a nice sugary soda.  For dinner alternate lamb and steak, increase your normal portion by say 20%.  Finish with deep dish dutch apple pie ala mode.  When the pie gets tedious substitute black forest cake.  Recline after dinner with a remote, a soda, and a nice bag or chips.  That and no working out or active sports and you should have this inside of 6 months.

Oh, if you insist on activities other than watching T.V. you can fish or play darts so long as you have beer with you during those activities.

1 year is 8lbs/month. That's tough but doable IMO.
2lbs a week is a piece of cake (almost literally).  My weight will fluctuate up 2lbs a day if I have a bad day and then I tone it back for a day or so to get it back down.

Eat at fries with every meal, desserts, Waffle House every morning and you've got this knocked out by next summer.

As long as ice cream, candy, and big ### sodas are considered normal foods, I think I could do it under 9 months easily.

A snickers (or 3 a day) doesn't count as a supplement bar, right?

I voted 3 - 6 months.  Assuming the guy has an office job and does no additional exercise, he'll need around 2,200 calories per day to maintain his weight.  I'm thinking he could easily (if trying) eat around 5k calories per day.  Hell, I watch what I eat and it's difficult to stay under 2k.  A couple of candy bars, some pizza, chips and dip and you're there.  Not to mention if you drank regular soda.  So to take in 350k total more calories than you expend (to get the 100lb gain) if he averaged a 2.5k excess per day that's 140 days.

No problem.

Correct and correct.

The biggest challenge based on the parameters is, IMO, carrying on normally with your job.

Sitting next to a fella on a plane right now who I think took this challenge. And he's wearing a homemade muscle shirt cut below his pits. Awesome. Thanks for that!

Is the assumption that this person has always been around 180 as an adult?  The answer would be way different if it's someone who was 280 for years and then just lost 100 pounds.

If someone was trying they could put on a pound or more a day.
You would need to eat 5,500 - 6,000 calories which is not an easy feat.  I'm trying to put on weight (ectomorph) and can tell you it's not easy to consume 3,000 calories, let alone 6,000 calories.

I had this same logic. Bunch of IPAs and pizza for each meal might get a little old, but probably not.

let me know how much you're offering and i'll give it a shot.

then i'll be willing to try to lose it in a timeframe for money also.

You could do this in 3 months easy. Using 3.500 calories per pound, you would need to eat 3,888 calories ON TOP of your maintenance calories, which are probably around 2,500. So call it 6,300 calories per day. That would suck, but it would be relatively easy. Pizza, ice cream, beer/soft drinks, and boom.

Without even looking at the label I'm assuming if I drank a 2L bottle of coke that would probably cover it in a year.  Throw in a pint of ben/jerry evey day and cut that down to 7 months.
