How many of you stream DEF (1 Viewer)

In a 10 team league with 22 DEF sitting on the ww, I think this is the way to go instead of rostering one unit. Pick a DEF facing Ari, Cle, etc. Thoughts?

I've done this for years with terrific success. I'm trying to pickup NE tonight on waivers. The one problem with the strategy is if others in your league start doing the same thing as they see their selected defense throwing up 5 points/week while you are scoring double digits. In my keeper league where they've seen the success now, especially toward playoff time, I sometimes have to do pre-emptive pickups a week ahead of time for the real juicy matchups. In a 10 team league with 22 on the wire, it's definitely the way to go....you'll find 3-4 good options each week.

Doing it even in a 14 team league. Every other team has 'their' D so this week there is NE vs Ari and CIN vs CLE off the top of my head.

I do it every year, and it works well. As Banger mentioned though, when you're nearing the playoffs, you should probably look ahead a week or two to ensure you get a team or two with juicy matchups. Last year especially, most of the best matchups in weeks 15 and 16 were teams that were already rostered...so if you didn't look ahead, you may have been burned.

I'll even try to get clever occasionally and trade someone off for a defense that looks to have a good matchup. I planned on dropping Russell Wilson during waivers tonight, so I offered him up to a team that happens to be an NC State fan, in exchange for the Patriots defense.

All my leagues I do this, in a way. But usually I draft a good D with my 2nd to last pick- this year I went with Seattle. Then I have an empty spot that I rotate Ds through, against Ari, Cle, etc.

To echo others, yes, but once the bye weeks come and go I use an extra roster spot to roster 2 D's trying to stay ahead of others. Usually have an extra spot by then as your lineup comes to form. The beginning of the year is often rough, but as questions are answered the waiver wire D's become easier to identify.

Like others, I usually try to reserve a utility spot on my roster for lottery tickets early and for housing a second D for streaming as the season wears on.

Waiver wire D's that are trying to enter my circle of trust for streaming purposes:

NE

DEN

SD

OAK

TAM

CLE

moreso than the defenses, my focus is always on the offense they are playing...I always like to ride that horrific team which this year based on week 1 may be Clev and the Weeden pick machine...

I usually do and this year I drafted the Bills and Patriots but starting the Bills already cost me a win in week 1.

Totally agree. I just like to try to find some under the radar D's to target when they play against said horrific teams. Right now these offenses look suspect at best and absolutely terrible in some cases and will be the ones I target each week to start a D against.MIACLEARIJACSTLOAKMINKCNYJ

THe Jets were on my list, too, when I looked at schedules to pick a defense. While they certainly won't score 48 points weekly, I had the Bills on my bench and they scored negative points (-4) against the Jets. The others on your list, exc. KC, were pretty much the ones I looked for. I have NE/Cin (ouch) in one league and Det/Buf (ouch, again) in the other. Holding all for at least another week.

Depending on the overall strength of my roster, I like to start out with one top half defense if I can. As the playoffs approach I start to add more and "stream" them.

I rarely have more than one DST on my team. I try to stream Ds based on match-up groupings. For instance, I picked up CIN DST in the draft. I didn't expect them to get lit up by BAL, but figured I'd be a bit behind in week one, but with four of their next five games against three of the worst offensive units (2 vs. CLE, MIA, JAX), I figured it was worth a shot. The fifth game is vs. WAS. Come week six, I might drop my back-up TE or QB to get an early jump on DSTs for week 7+. If I luck out and get a big time D (last year, it was SF), then I'll roll through a few iffy games to keep them or maybe stream an extra roster spot for match-ups, but I'll sort that out later.
