All,

I am wondering how many of us actually go to the games. I am fortunate enough to have season tickets and also make a couple of road trips each year.

I think sometimes I am too much of a FANatic for the game. We love to see other cities and visit with other team's fans.

We go to see the Titans/Colts game annually. We are also planning to go to either Jax or Denver this year.

Am I nuts for making road trips with "My" team?

What is your level of committment?

I am a past season ticket holder who had not attended a live game for ten years until taking in the DEN-NEP playoff game in last year's Week #19.

Was amazed at the show:

1.) The live experience is so geared to the TV presentation that, unless you have a radio fee or someone around you has same, there are periods where you're just going "what's going on". Play stoppage for replays, plat stoppage for time outs for TV (A guy next to us pointed out the guy with an elbow length mitten like looking thing on his right arm, bright orange in color. This guy was signaling the time outs for commercials to the officials). It's a bit of a hard time converting the live to the TV timing.

2.) The "live entertainment", from the half time show to the time out happenings, is geared to obnoxious, I mean really bad, music and the Cheer Leaders doing the herky jerk. This was a playoff game and the general impression of the giant screens doing nonsense racing games coupled with the lack luster mess and the zero music display was disappointing. If you've got nothing better, or more creative, to do with these lulls in the activity, hire a marketing consultant to come up with something, anything, that's better than these displays.

3.) There's still nothing like the live show to engender the drama of competition. The roar of a crowd and the foot stomping of the metal stands is nothing shot of spectacular. If the fans get so loud that the officials stop the game....well, that's the definition of Home Field Advantage.

Good to go back....been there, done that. There's only one reason to go to the hassle of dragging it down there and seeing it live: that's the wow factor of a big play at crunch time. Champ Bailey picking one off and running end to end....and being clocked by Ben Watson as he crosses the goal line....is well worth the price of admission. :pics:

For the past 3 years that I've been in LA I've gone to 3-4 Chargers games a year. Before that I'd never been to an NFL game.

I go to about 2-3 Patriots games per year. Two years ago about 8 of us rented a camper and camped at Buffalo for 3 days and went to a Pats/Bills game. It was a blast.

Charger season ticket holder for the 2nd year...and yes Rivers looked great against a poor GB team.

pet peave 10021: People that wear jerseys to games that don't involve the two teams playing. I understand being an NFL fan, but be a fan of the team that plays in the same city that you live in. Support that team.

What about the tub of goo that is three times the size of the guy, whose number is on the jersey that is being stretched to the breaking point.

Hey, have you seen me at a Colts game? haha

To those of you that travel at all with your team, do you tailgate amongst the rival fans?

Life long 49ers fan. I live in Vancouver, Canada and I make the road trip to Seattle every year to see the niners play. I'll usually go to 2-3 games in Seattle each year including the niners.

Tailgated at a Bill-Skins game several years ago. Great fans up there in Buffalo. Had my Skins hat on and was offered beers and food by several fans who appreciated that I had driven up to see my team on the road. Been back up there for other games not involving the Skins. Great atmosphere. Great fans. I've also seen Skins on the road in Carolina. Didn't do any tailgating but it's a great place to see a game. Fans were friendly(of course many of them are Skins fans from back in the day when Carolina was without a team).Going to games is fun every now and then but I prefer to watch on tv. I see more, the brew and food is cheaper and there's never a line at the bathroom. Also, it's easier follow other games.

Living in LA - and we gots no pro team. :(

So I see it on TV, but put myself down on 'other' as I occasionally make it to a Charger game, or if I am back east, a Jet game.

edited to add: Had the best fball experiance EVER at a Jet/Charger game couple years ago. Was wearing my Jets jersey and while I caught SOME flack for it, I got a lot more friendly interaction then at ANY stadium I have been to. Few guys grilling even pulled some extra beers out for me and a buddy. Good peeps down their, IMO.

I think they may just have been happy we weren't Raider fans.

There's one pro football team in LA I can think of

Grew up at Three Rivers. My parents have had season tickets since '71. So I went with them to every game for about 10 years until I was in college. Then for a while I stopped going. Eventually they gave up the third ticket. Then a few years ago I started buying one ticket per season from them and I go with a friend of mine. Lots of great memories from Three Rivers, but watching the games at Heinz is much better.

I'm a 'Skins fan in SoCal. I will occasionally attend their games when they're playing in AZ, SD or SF/Oak. I'd also consider Seattle or even Denver. I don't hit every one of those games, but those are in play for me.

Charger season ticket holder since 2004. Yes, I bought my tickets after they were the worst team in the league and got snubbed by Eli Manning.

I have even road tripped to Lambeau Field in December. A buddy of mine lives in Milwaukee and married into Packer season tickets. He invited me to come up and experience the frozen tundra.

My old job I traveled quite a bit during the summers and I have been to a number of baseball stadiums as well. I know this is a football board but there is just something about a live sporting event no matter what sport it is.

i only go to games when i can score FREE tickets. honestly i'd rather watch from home and be able to see several games and off course watch my live fantasy scoring living and dying bye every yard for .1 of a point

i have season tickets to U-Michigan football. i attend 0-1 lion game per year. i prefer to watch NFL on sunday ticket.

Baseball is definitely better live than on TV (the opposite of football). Watching the NATS play at RFK brings back memories. I never thought I'd set foot in that stadium again. Kind of a dump by modern standards but to a Skins fan, it aint all bad.

Great posts all! I have traveled with the Colts to KC for the playoff win 2 years ago. Last year to Jacksonville, and to Cincy. We've also gone to Nashville the last 3 years. Nashville is a great place to go see a game. The town is great for partying on Saturday night.

Keep 'em coming. I want to see where we can consider good places and not-so-good to visit.

I must say, tailgating @ KC was an awesome experience! Fans were terrific. Their stadium was incredible loud for open air.

I have season tickets along with my brother and some co-workers. We usually get about 12-15 people every week at our tailgate spot. My boss rents a storage pod onsite to store our grills, tables, cookers, awnings, etc. We try to use our opponent for our food theme(Cajun for the Saints, wings for the Bills, etc.) We also get our own porta-jon and six parking spaces. Works out great! Been doing the tailgate thing for about 3 years now and I love it but........................after 18 years of Fantasy Football I do still miss the Sundays at home with multiple TVs going and tracking everything with live scoring. I guess I'm a real live "homer" now though. No way I could miss the games now. We usually all get together and pick one away game and I go when I can work it out. Having New Orleans in the division guaranteed one good option, but I'm not sure what kind of shape the city is in right now. The date is right though, December 31st! :banned:

Season ticket holder since the Raiders have been back. (11th year now). 1 guess as to where I sit. Funny, I do miss the Sunday's at a buddy's/bar/home with several TV's and everything during the home games. I don't miss it enough to miss out on a Live NFL game. Nothing like it, especially night games and playoff games. Of course I haven't seen any of the later in 3 years, but I still have the night games.

As far as the person complaining about all the piddly stuff. Try and enjoy the entire show. From the tailgate (try walking around and really enjoy this part, don't just sit in your little corner of the parking lot), pre-game warm-ups (I sit in front where the team warms up, so I very much enjoy this), the people dancing and having fun during the "boring" time-outs, the intensity and passion in the air, the view of the sidelines and what is going on there, the opportunity to see some of the greatest athletes in the world lay it all on the line play after play and most importantly the view of the entire football field and what is happening everywhere, not just where the ball is. GB the NFL.
