How many teams have just two QBs? (1 Viewer)

It is just nuts to see teams with just two QBs on the roster. The Cardinals were looking like a possible playoff team. But I think their chances took a big hit because they now have a guy off the streets playing QB for them now. How many teams started the season with only two QBs on the roster? There are a bunch of teams that only have one QB as a back up. I think the risk is less with guys like Peyton Manning and Farve because of their history of staying healthy. But I really think it is a huge mistake to keep only two QBs on the roster.

Packers have two - Favre + Rodgers. One of their WRs (Holliday) figures as the emergency third.
Farve never gets hurt so that isn't so bad, but these other teams I don't know about. The Cardinals had to put Tim Rattay on the field after about two days of practice. If Warner is out for any time they are done. Although I would say the Testaverde was signed this week and he looked good. As a matter of fact, it took Testaverde to remind the Panthers that Steve Smith was on the team.

It appears the Dolphins may go at it with just Lemon and Beck (and Marty Booker, a high school QB and occasional option passer as the emergency 3rd). Of course, they're doing that because Green is out.

I think it is not much of a risk for them because they were not a playoff team. But the Steelers, the Cardinals, the Jaguars, and the Titans are all possible playoff teams. I think the Cardinals chances went up in smoke. The Titans will be in trouble if Young is gone for awhile.

Would it really help to have a third QB? Is having Charlie Frye at the end of your bench really going to make a difference?

Most teams don't even have a good backup, let alone a good third QB. There's no reason to carry a third QB if you don't have a guy who can step in and perform. The roster spot is just too valuable.

I think having a guy like Testaverde, or Rattay on your roster is valuable. They are obviously going to perform better if they are familiar with the offense. And what happens if this happens closer to the playoffs? The Patriots have three and Brady never gets hurt. I'd say that if the Patriots do it I'd think about it. They seem to be pretty smart.

I agree with this, and it gives added value to the players like Randle El, Brad Smith, Rod Smith, Booker, Hines Ward, Bennet, etc. Those players good enough to make the roster for another position, but can step in if needed and take some snaps. I'm not entirely sure how complex an offense any of these guys can run now, but I'm sure they'd manage in Buffalo.
