How many votes will Christie lose by being in Jerry Jones' luxury (1 Viewer)

Anyone who votes for a representative based on something like that should have their wiener frozen and then cut off.
Unfortunately I think an embarrassing amount of our population base votes on things like this or even more basic.

I like him less but won't change my vote.

Jets fans not liking something: shocking. My guess is 2 or 3 but he'll probably pick up some Hispanic votes.

Don't think it means nothing. Not saying it's a critical issue of the day, but as one candidate in a big field, it looks bad.

Acting like a Dallas superfan when you're supposed to be a New Jersey guy looks weird, like you're a bandwagoner. It reinforces the narrative that Christie will basically do whatever it takes to gain favor with the right people. Americans like their candidates to not act like they want the job too badly.

I think people saw that and thought "Oh, he loves the Cowboys all of a sudden?" It just doesn't look good. By itself it's nothing, but if there's enough out there to make a candidate unlikable...it affects their support.

I actually don't mind Christie, but that didn't make him look good to me. Sports fans (the ones watching that broadcast) take their team allegiances seriously. Maybe a bit too seriously. I don't think he's a Cowboys fan. I think he was kissing Jerry's behind. That's the part that doesn't look so good.

The strangest optic might have been when he was bouncing around trying to hug Jerry at the end of the game. That really looked, just contrived and awkward. I still don't understand why the Governor of NJ would want to associate so frequently with another team regardless of his aspirations for higher office. He was in the Dallas owner's box last week too. This certainly won't help him in his own state and his image as a tough guy when he's seen so frequently with his lips attached to some rich Texas clown's backside.

He's been known to be a Cowboy fan since he's been in office. He's never made a secret of it, despite being a "Jersey Guy". He does go see Bruce Springsteen all the time at least. ;)

He's on local Sports radio all the time and has always let everyone know he's a Cowboys fan.

If we're analyzing politics, here's where this isnt a calculated maneuver. Republicans always win Texas. They rarely win New Jersey. So being Cowboy superfan would hurt his national chances more than just watching the game at home.

Really? How/why does a jersey guy become a Cowboys fan? How does he get elected governor?

I have friends that are Vikings, Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, Bears, Buccaneers (etc.) fans and all live in Jersey. It happens. I see it in football all the time, not as much in the other sports.

That anyone thinks this is an issue says a lot about our country. That it actually is an issue says even more. No wonder why we have a Federal government that doesn't care one lick about us beyond what they can extract from our wallets. We put them there and we deserve them.

How does he get elected governor?
Hopefully this part was a joke. It wasn't a big part of the campaign.
Yeah I was having fun with the conversation but... I've spent a little time in Northern Jersey, visiting a sorta-relative in Mahwah, so based on that lousy sample I guess I thought everyone was an Eagles, NYJ or NYG fan. - However I do come from an extremely politically immature state and I can tell you football matters here. If someone ran for governor saying they were an Ole Miss or Bama fan or a Falcons fan that would be pretty much anathema, it would be a problem. Being a Cowboys fan would probably lose him some votes in South LA. Same thing could happen if he said he hated gumbo and crawfish.

How many times have you seen presidential candidates show up and shout "Go Buckeyes!" and then next stop say "Go Wolverines!" Yeah, some folks in campaigns thinks it matters. It might.

Well, of course 95% of the people in the state are fans of the local teams, but there are people that follow a whole spectrum of NFL teams. There's Raiders, Bengals, Browns, and Dolphins fans on this board that all live in Jersey.

The NFL has always been a different animal in this regard and fantasy football will probably only make it "worse". However, I'm old enough that I've been following the NFL before fantasy football was mainstream and even as a kid I remember people in school (I grew up in New York) rooting for many different football teams while almost everyone seemed to be Mets or Yankees, Rangers or Islanders and Knicks or Nets in the other sports.

As far as being a Cowboy fan affecting a gubernatorial election, while I'm sure some boneheads would take that into consideration, in general it's not really an issue. I don't think he broadcast it during the lection process, but since he's been in office he's been known as a big sports guy and is on the WFAN all of the time, and hasn't hidden the fact that he is a long time Cowboy fan since childhood. I'm a little younger than him but growing up many kids were Cowboys and Steelers fans since they were always winning. As those kids got older some moved on to local teams but others stuck with those teams. I can see it both ways.

I wouldn't change my vote but I really do question his judgment. He has to know that there are enough morons in this country who will not vote for him based on these actions. Just watch the game at home and celebrate with Jerry in private.

If there's anything to like about him (don't want to get into politics) one of the best things about him is he really doesn't care about pandering to people. He wants to be judged based on the job he does - not whether he's fat, a Cowboys fan, abrasive, loud, a Springsteen fan, etc. He's a pretty straight shooter.

Right not a panderer. He just likes to celebrate.

Yup and that's fine but it will still cost him a lot of votes. I live in Philly and after the Eagles/Cowboys game, I think most of he Philly area turned on him.

Can I laugh and be serious at the same time? At any rate this probably belongs in the FFA.

Born and raised in North Jersey and a Cowboy fan? His whole image is being a Jersey guy. This makes no sense. It does give you a little insight on his character or personality. He is a bandwagon guy from a young age. Instead of rooting for one of the home teams that weren't as successful he chose to root for the team with all the glitz and glamour. Its like the kids I grew up with that were Bulls fans even though they had never been to Chicago. Its easy to root for the best, takes a little more dedication to root for a team that isn't very good.

I think anyone who grew up with a frequent losing football team in their city knows you can stay loyal to your team and still root for another team as a backup in playoff time.

But I have a hard time understanding how someone can pull for a total, hated rival of your local team though. There are people out there who are both Giants fans and Cowboys fans? There are Eagles fans who are also Cowboys fans? I don't think so. Basically he must pull against the Giants and Eagles, which to me is incredible for the governor of NJ.

I totally understand how Christie could have become a Cowboys fan as a youngster in the early 70's.. The Giants and Jets were in NY, not northern NJ back then, and the Giants at least stunk for years. Meanwhile, the Cowboys were America's team, on tv all the time. But as far as I can tell he kept it relatively quiet, including through two races for NJ governor, until now. That's he been unable to resist coming out so prominently leads me to believe he thinks his name will never again appear on a ballot, so why not enjoy the ride with Jerah and company.

"To all of those non Cowboy fans who have their panties in a ringer because the Governor of NJ is a Cowboys fan — GET A LIFE !!! The Gov has been a Cowboys fan for his entire life and ALL of you would sit with the owner of your favorite team in a heartbeat if given the chance. I'm a Giants fan — we are sitting home for the fourth straight year. Eagles fans — possibly you should worry more about the fact that your sorry ### team has never won a Super Bowl and less about who's rooting for which team. I mean crazy pathetic posts. And for every calorically challenged FB person who posts about the Gov's weight — forget the magic mirror and look at yourself. Weight posts—really?”
Todd for Prez.

The New YORK Giants moved to East Rutherford when Christie was a teenager and still call themselves the New YORK Giants.....

Not sure I''d characterize them as "local."

Oh he's still a panderer - I remember him being at the Jets playoff game a few years ago.

Anyone see the game yesterday? Big comeback for the Cowboys to make it a good game, but I won't spoil the ending. If you missed it, NFL Network is replaying it Wednesday at 3am.
