How much do you let game start times (1 Viewer)

Personally, I hate when my entire team is done after the 1 PM games are complete. I guess its because if your team happens to struggle, you have no chance to win unless your opponent's team struggles as well. Then there's the prime time factor. It seems that some WRs and RBs step up their game when in the national TV spotlight. Or is this just a myth?

So the real question is...

How many people have found themselves starting one player over another simply because they are playing in a 4 PM or prime time game... knowing deep down that your 1 PM player has a better match up?

If it doesn't hurt me and I've got a choice, I always start the late player, be it 4PM, Sun night, or Mon night.

Generally don't, except when I can get IDPs moved to Monday Nite. That allows me to weigh out starting the upside of a CB v. the steady production of a S.

I you play in enough leagues, you'll always have a player or two going.

I somewhat believe " Monday Night Prime Time" is when talented players want to show off their capabilities. Knowing that the audience is much bigger than local networks for a Sunday game is a ego booster.

I wouldn't be surprised that the increased TV commericial timeouts during primetime could impact stats.

i agree with the majority.. Dont let schedule times determine your starters, play your best matchups..

BUT if it comes down to choosing between 2 equal players against 2 equal defenses and you are not sure which one to go with.. I would start the guy in the prime time game (sunday/monday night) as people do seem to elevate their game a bit..

Good point B&B, never thought about that....slows down the tempo, thats for sure.

I agree with you that talented cornerbacks tend to shine in prime time. Linebackers and defensive linemen too. That's why, like you, I avoid starting my players in prime time.

Yes, that last post was in jest. But there was a point to it.

To answer the question, I do let game times affect my decision on occasion even though I know I shouldn't. Like the original poster, I just hate being done at 4:00 on Sunday.

Ever have nightmares in the middle of the summer that you didnt set your lineup? Or am i truly nuts? The 'unset lineup' nightmare replaced the 'forgot to take my high school finals' nightmare a couple years ago.

You're right to be concerned about when they play, but you have the reasoning all wrong.See, white or light colors reflect light while dark colors absorb it. Just think of how much extra weight your players in dark uniforms may be carrying around in the 4th quarter after their uniforms have absorbed all that light all game! Especially in a daytime game when it's sunny out. That's why players stay inside dimly lit locker rooms before game time. The teams in the lighter uniforms of course have an advantage in the later stages of such games.

And so really a 1pm east coast game isn't any different than a 4pm west coast game since the amount of sunlight absorbed will be the same. The real difference is between those who play in daytime games vs those who play Sunday and Monday night. Start your light colors in 1pm and 4pm games, and your dark colors in the evening matches.

And no need thanking me, glad I could be of help. :D

days and times only affect my choice as a tie-breaker or close. or if i'm not sure if a player will startwho's in a later game. i have a semi-irrational thing about Thurs. games. I know some people would pick Thurs in a tie-breaker to have a player to watch. but i'd go the other way. if they don't do well, i have to wait three days to see if my other playesr can balance. drives me crazy. :bag:

there are definitely times that starting time effects your lineup- but for me it is only in situations where you are allowed to alter your lineup after 1pm/ So if there is a game time decision player involved

You're not nuts. I've had that nightmare.

Maybe that just means you are both nuts? :hophead:

That's entirely possible.

Honestly, many weeks I could not tell you when my guys are playing. Enough variables already floating around in my head on the average who to start decision to add anymore.

It really only matters in leagues where you can make changes after the first kickoff (unless you really subscribe to the "my guy performs better in prime time" theory). Even if you subscribe to that, they are probably a stud that you'd have played anyway.

If you have the options to change players after the first kickoff, I try to move all later starters (even if a stud) to a flex position. That way if I here something awful happens just before that game I still have a chance to make a change.

It shouldn't, but part of the joy of this game is watching your players play, so if they're pretty close, I'll take a prime time game over one I won't see.

Basically choices like week 2, Matt Jones in MNF against the Steelers instead of Reggie Brown, 1 PM vs. the Giants. Close calls probably anyway, but I'll watch the MNF game.

In the approximately 10 years that I have been playing fantasy football, I never once considered game time in deciding who to start.

I don't even look at game times unless I'm already ready to flip a coin on who to start.

Like many, I'd prefer to watch my player playing, but I purposefully avoid using game times to decide. Besides, I play so many leagues there might be ONE game all season where I have nobody playing, and NONE where neither me nor any of my opponents has somebody.

If you let game-times be a serious consideration of who to start...then come join my league...the more guppies the better (for me!) :pokey:

I've never made a starting decision based off of game start time. To be honest I find if very surprising that so many peole are even finding that all/most of their guys are playing only in the early games.

I've had both sides to the coin on this one. And man, do I second guess myself all the time! I'd go to the message boards, get advice ona starter, who is playing at like 4, or 7, and sometimes the 4 guy rips it up, sometimes the 7, it just depends. I'd say its 50/50

Me either. I'm trying to win ($$$) not live vicariously through my players.
