Just wondering this as a branch off from this topic. I remember being from a split family so it was every other weekend at mom's or dad's. Then from there we had sleepovers at our cousins at first and then friends later on. I've got two kids that are 8 and 11. And I am with them all the time. I was wondering how often people have nights without the kids. Meaning they are staying elsewhere for the night. My wife says my kids do it all the time, but I know for a fact they haven't been anywhere but their own beds since before Thanksgiving. So I'm wondering what is normal for this?

You are confusing me man ..

The Thread states: " How often do you and the wife get away without kids?"

Which I would take to mean "How often do you go somewhere without the kids"

But then the Poll has: "How often do kids stay overnight away from home"

Which I take to mean "Sleepover at someone Else's house"..

I'll leave the poll unanswered for now and answer both.. ;)

Get away without our daughter..

Use to do this 3 or 4 times a year and have my Mother In-law stay at our house.. Now that she is old enough to drive, and has her own car, we'll still try to "Get away" a couple times a year without needing the Mother In-law to stay over.

As for "Staying over night somewhere else"..

Use to be maybe twice a year as she was quite the introvert.. . But now she has more of a social life and it has been 3 times in the last 3 months.

Jesus people. HOW MANY NIGHTS A YEAR CAN YOU BANG THE HELL OUT OF YOUR WIFE WITHOUT WAKING YOUR KIDS UP BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SLEEPING IN THE SAME BUILDING!!!!

We have three, so it seems someone is always home. I'd say 3-5 times a year that all three are gone on the same night. :kicksrock:

My wife and I do consider ourselves odd when looking at other parents. Much like Saber's situation, our kids (14, 11 and almost 9) are always with us. Of course, the 14 year old is with us the least these days, but its facinating to my wife and I how pathetic some parents are. It seems that 90% (yes, that's a made up number) cant even handle going to the store if they have to take their kids with. I dont understand how people look at their kids as a chore. I love it and wouldnt have it any other way. The years are short, and I know we're going to miss it when its over.

My parents will take them a few times a year overnight (ages 2 and 7). A few times a month we will get a sitter for them and go out.

C'mon people, it's a simple question. How many times a year do you and your kids leave your wife alone in the same building?

Not sure why it's so hard to answer.

Alot less than wed like. It used to be easier when relatives could watch our son but my MIL has cancer, my mom died, my SIL just had her second baby, and my brother just had his first. This leaves us with paying for a sitter and while shes really hot, paying someone $50 just so we can goto dinner and a movie seems exorbitant. Id say once a month if even that much. Trips to ac, weddings, bday dinners is about it.
