How shady is this? (1 Viewer)

So in my league tonight, a trade went down between the commish and another player. Mind you, these 2 are roommates as well. So Team A had Romo at QB and he proposed a trade to him roommate tonight for Matt Schaub. Commish accepts the trade. He then sees the trade won't go in effect until week 9 due to 2 day trade review hold. So the commish decides to up and change the rule to a 1 day review period so his roommate can benefit and have Schaub this week instead of week 9. Am I wrong in thinking this is shady?

I am confused, who ended up with Schaub? Team A, Team B, the Commish or the roommate...it reads as if all of the above got him.

The part that is in bold letters is what's wrong. I can understand that you are complaining, but why isn't the rest of the league whining? It has an effect on all of you.

This just went down maybe an hour ago. Only 1 other person saw it and he said he was fine with it??? Who knows....

I have a problem with a mid-season rule change. I am a commish in my league and I would never think of asking my league mates to change the rules mid-season.

Here is the player Receiving Schaub's response

"its a 2 day waiting period so the league can review and vote which means people have until sunday night to determine the trade unfair..... kevin (nfl felons) already declared that this is fine and i think his ruling alone takes great precedence given the fact that i am playing him this week....

if anyone else disagrees with the trade they should vote within the 48 hour window as the league rule dictates but since schaub is playing monday night he is well within the timeline of the review (pending a veto) allowing me to start him."

and the commishes

"jorge proposed a trade to me which I accepted. Prior to the the change it was 2 days. Shaub plays on Monday night which is two days but it won't allow the trade to clear due to games starting Sunday. If you are in disagreement with this vote against the trade and I will adjust as necessary. If people think of this as an act of cheating (which I do not) I will make a point adjustment for this week. Holler #####es!"

I may be hypersensitive but the rules are the rules. The owners in your league agreed on certain rules at the draft. Changing them now without complete league approval is suspect.

When Schaub plays is irrelivant if lineups are due by Sunday at kickoff. The trade wouldn't go through before lineups are due so the owner shouldn't have Schaub for this week. I particularly love this gem..."kevin (nfl felons) already declared that this is fine and i think his ruling alone takes great precedence given the fact that i am playing him this week...." Uhh, no.

I was able to raise enough of a stink that this got reversed. The 2 guys are more than pissed at me though. I'm sure they'll have some pleasantries Monday at work for me.

I do not know about your status but I am an ###ole. A) You called them out and they realized that they were wrong. B) C'mon, they take fantasy that seriously? All my best.

I will say this, they gave it the old college try here.

They argue that since Schaub doesnt play till monday night it is within the 2 day rule. Clever but wrong since lineups are due by kickoff Sunday. Had this been one of the leagues where you can start your players just before kickoff of each game then things get interesting.

Also getting the guy you are playing that week to agree is also a nice touch. Problem with that is that this decision has the potential to affect not only the 2 teams but any of the rest of the teams in the league. Team A gets a win over team B that would have went the other way and suddenly team C ends up missing the playoffs because of it. You get the picture. Rules are rules and anybody who waits this long to replace a player who everybody knew was going to be out by THIS PAST Sunday gets what they deserve.

The fact that the Commish is involved makes it stink out loud... abuse of power and all that.

Credibility is like virginity... once you lose it, it is gone forever.

Hope it's not a money league... makes it that much easier to just walk away.

:( That cracked me out, not just precedence, but GREAT precedence. LOOK OUT! :lmao:

So you're the guy playing Schaub I assume :(
You could try reading the thread :lmao:
I did, and I don't like preventing Schaub to play on a technicality. The 48 hours is a review period, no? What if everyone in the league votes (silly system in the first place) before the period is over, would it be okay to process the trade then?
League votes and waiting periods are stupid rules, but they're still the rules the league agreed to. Changing a bad rule to help a specific team without asking the league is still bad form. No reason the commish and owner could have traded earlier in the week.

You can't change the rules midseason period. Voice your opinion on it, if it doesn't change then just let it be the last year in the league without going crazy over it. What he's doing is 100 percent wrong, but handle your end with class.

The most shady thing about this is allowing people to veto trades in the first place.
I'm reading that most aren't in leagues that allow veto's, weird that my two oldest leagues still allow it. We don't have any problems with it either, been the same guys for 14 years now, 14 team league. I don't think a trade has been vetoed in the last 5 years.
