How valuable is Gronk as a trade piece? (1 Viewer)

Gatorman

Supreme Elite Maximum Tier
Preface:  I'm drafting at the end of a draft, and obviously going through the "possible" players available.  In FFPC style drafts, where no trading is allowed, this question is "somewhat" moot, but in player valuation, does the ability to use the player as a trade piece make a difference in whether you draft him?

(This is not a WDIS or WDI draft for me, more an end of the round question)

So at the end of round 1, top of round 2 you have Julio, M Thomas, Freeman, M Gordon, and then someone like Gronk.

VBD shows Gronk somewhere like 16 to 18 (depending on the scoring system), with those guys ahead of him.  Still, once the season hits, do you believe that anyone of those guys will net you a better trade than having gronk on the team?  We kind of need to take "health" out of the equation (even though gronk's ranking likely has some of that baked in).

Do you do any "trade allowance" figuring into deciding to draft a player?  To me, a healthy gronk can give me almost any RB outside of the top 5 if he is playing well (even those picked ahead of him like the guys above).  Any "lower tiered" TE and a RB that is outperfoming his ADP is almost a given in any trade if I need depth, and I still have the ability to go after a "sleeper TE" if need be.

Any thoughts?  As someone who trades a lot in leagues where trading is allowed, it seems that a players "name value" and position strength makes a difference....

I trade a lot and I can only offer my anecdotal experience. The years in which I've owned Gronk everyone has always wanted to trade me for him. The positional advantage is obviously very real but the perception of that positional advantage also seems to be ingrained in my league mates minds, even the ones who I don't think are paying as close attention as I am. But, I never draft someone taking into account whether or not I'll be able to trade them, people are fickle and trade talks can be exhausting.

This sums it up perfectly.

This sounds about right.  I've found (in the particular league I am talking about), people are quick to dismiss RB #7 or WR #6 but i you offer them TE#1 they are more willing to part with assets.  While I do not "exclusively" draft this way, I found that trying to trade "melvin gordon" for example never nets me what I get trading "gronk".  People can always find what they don't like about a player, but with the top of the positional tier (whether that be RB, WR, QB or TE) you get a little more for the top of the tier than you do for the second tier.  I also think people are more willing to send the "breakout player" for the "established stud" in those cases.

Just wondering if it is anyone's tiebreaker.

I've tried to trade for him and Trade him away. I can't get a deal done either way. When you look at his value just this upcoming season alone he's nearly worth Mccaffery + Cooks but the perception is he's only worth Mccaffery. You're losing a lot trading Gronk straight up for McCaffrey.

I own him in dynasty and no one is biting on him as trade bait.  Crickets.  Which I cant understand bc he has this year and maybe one ,ore year after that of elite production theoretically.  And he is so head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.  Happy to keep him and enjoy the production though!

If Gronk isn't the biggest difference-maker in FF, he's close.

By difference-maker I mean compared to others at his position (relative value).

I own him in a couple dynasty leagues & I'm not sure what it would take (if I'd even move him), but it sure as hell is going to have to be a primo deal for me or I'll pass.

I agree. At the draft, his value is a bit supporessed because everyone thinks they have a couple sleeper TEs that they can get late. When the season begins and reality sets in, most of the TEs of the NFL are crap for fantasy. After three weeks, their TE doesn't even have a 100 yards total while Gronk is putting up fantasy points like he is Julio Jones. All a sudden Gronk becomes incredibly desirable.

It's a little different though. Gronk to a contender is so valuable this year. Especially if he's weak at TE but he might only have 1-2 more elite years. Still getting a monster year from Gronk can win you your league easy.......

Good luck. I can't trade him to save my life in both PPR leagues I own him in.
That's been my experience. Maybe just psychology but it's hard to give a top RB for him yet he's probably worth any one after Zeke, Bell, Barkley and DJ

Where's he going in dynasty? I got him at the end of the 3rd, 16 teams, after Jeffery, Ronald Jones, ertz, Engram, etc. Cooks was a late 2nd, McCaffery early 2nd.

You don't sell guys like Gronk this time of year. If you've been in dynasty long enough, you know that you buy vets before the season, and sell them during the season. Vets don't have the shine in the offseason compared to the unknowns who could become the next Karama, OBJ, etc..Hold and wait to put him on the trade block after he goes off W1-2.

Yeah but those draft spots are cooking in their total value. I prefaced my statement with "for this year alone". It looks a little confusing but I meant just value for this year Gronk is really close to as valuable as McCaffrey+Cooks.

FBG has Gronk at 6 and McCaffrey + Cooks at 7 combined in the trade chart for this years value.

It's just hard to trade him because his preceived value is so much lower than his actually value.
