Thought the Maron interview was a bit boring. The Louis CK interview wasn't great either. I really enjoy Maron's podcast. His desperation and the setting. It all just works when he has a great guest. Plus comedians have the best stories. Maron is more interesting then funny. For instance his interview with James Franco was entertaining because Mark was IMO such a ####. It boiled over at the end and Franco walked off thinking the same thing. It wasn't a huge drama just a subtle buildup that leaves you thinking WTF was Maron thinking.
In the end you kind of root for Maron because he has really kept at it. But as a comedic talent? Jon Stewart must be laughing and thinking I barely know who this guy is.
See, I thought the opposite of that Franco interview. Maron just said what most people were thinking, which was that Franco takes himself way too seriously. He made it so Maron couldn't not say something by teeing it up with the comment about how he
used to take himself so seriously at the end of a comically pretentious monologue about General Hospital and his "art." I didn't sense him being anything but hospitable prior to that, in spite of Franco continuing to let out rope. I'm a huge fan of Harmony's films, and enjoyed his interview.
His standup can be funny, but he tends to come off as a bit raw and on edge when he does the podcast in front of a live audience. Not sure where Jon Stewart comes into play.
