They just said on the Yankees Rangers broadcast that it was a hammy, same as ESPNDidn't see it thoughIt looked more like a knee thing.

pulled hammys don't happen in AAA ball?Tweaked the hammy. That's not good for a young power pitcher. Expect a DL stint. That's the risk you take pushing a 20 year old up that fast. He may have the stuff but you risk having a talented kid push himself too far too fast.

Young pitchers that get rushed up to the majors often tend to overthrow with their excitement and adrenaline. They haven't had enough experience pitching through the minors and building up their bodies to handle the rigors of pitching in the big leagues. You see this kind of thing often enough to know that its a risk to rush 20 year phenoms to the majors too early.pulled hammys don't happen in AAA ball?Tweaked the hammy. I tend to believe it happened because Jesus has learned to hate the Yankees like most rational people. This makes me happy. On the other hand, I really like Phil Hughes and was rooting for him tonight. It was more of a fluke than the "rigors" getting to him. I'm sure the excitment and adrenaline of carrying a no-hitter into the 7th inning would've had no effect on a 3 year vet, right?Young pitchers that get rushed up to the majors often tend to overthrow with their excitement and adrenaline. oops.Once again, There Is No Such Thing As A Pitching ProspectHe felt a "pop" according to everyone on Posada,
Repeatedly getting yeast infections in one's arm <> pulled hammy. At this point in their careers, Hughes >>>> Prior.MrPhoenix said:Mark Prior, meet Phil Hughes.
Now there's going out on a limb.Repeatedly getting yeast infections in one's arm <> pulled hammy. At this point in their careers, Hughes >>>> Prior.MrPhoenix said:Mark Prior, meet Phil Hughes.
Good job, gunz.
Not sure how he got hurt...not like they rushed him up and put big expectations on him...
Might not have been much of a limb for MrPhoenix. Now there's going out on a limb.Repeatedly getting yeast infections in one's arm <> pulled hammy. At this point in their careers, Hughes >>>> Prior.MrPhoenix said:Mark Prior, meet Phil Hughes.![]()
And in his first start, it appears that someone has been tinkering with his delivery:http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...anical-changes/Not sure how he got hurt...not like they rushed him up and put big expectations on him...![]()
He hurt his hammy in his 2nd start
Sounds like a stretch to me. If the change in delivery caused the hamstring problem then whether he was pitching in the minors or the majors makes no difference. And in his first start, it appears that someone has been tinkering with his delivery:http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...anical-changes/Not sure how he got hurt...not like they rushed him up and put big expectations on him...![]()

Question is: Did the Yankees engineer this change in anticipation of Hughes call up to he big leagues? And did this change in his delivery cause the hamstring problem? Might not be that far of a stretch...
It does if they tinkered with his delivery in anticipation of his call-up. According to that article, the video from Hughes first start looked different from his motion earlier this year in AAA also.Sounds like a stretch to me. No it doesnt. That video is comparing his 06 delivery with his 07 delivery. I SERIOUSLY doubt they would tinker with his delivery during the season before he was about to be called up.It does if they tinkered with his delivery in anticipation of his call-up. While the video shows the '06 delivery compared to the '07 one with the Yankees for comparison's sake, the author seems to indicate that the changed delivery was VERY new.Fast forward to Hughes' debut on April 26. Hmmm... That's not the Phil Hughes I remember seeing a few days ago.
