Hurricane passing over house. Ask me anything. (1 Viewer)

I have a buddy who I normally play video games with during the day. He lives in Houston. His name is Chris, I'm sure you know him. Can you go tell him to logon because I've been bored the last two days without him.

Power still out. Hung out at work during the day charging things, then hit a Double Daves that had power in the afternoon. Today, probably just going to squat at work (no pepperoni rolls, but more comfortable seating!) until later tonight when it's cooled down somewhat.

@Joe Bryant Sorry it has been a rough trip for you. Hope the family medical situation is going ok.

And hope everyone else is doing ok.

Also, gasoline tanker at gas station on way into work so I stopped. Took them an hour to get their pump system rebooted, but was able to fill up which was good, was down to about a quarter of a tank. Most of the stations are dry right now after a run on them the last day.

That's why you fill up before the storm.

Had no power, internet, or cell service for most of the day. Still no power but cell service just now restored and about a 1000 work emails just popped up on my phone. Fun. All our fences are down and will need to be replaced but they were super old anyway. Some minor water damage from a leak but otherwise good on my end. Now off to read a day’s worth of work emails at 11pm!
I would have not seen those emails until the morning :oldunsure:

Having knee surgery Friday so about the only positive is it should be back on before then. But yeah, this really sucks.

So according to Centerpoint I won't get power back on until Wednesday.

:kicksrock:
Very sad for you. They aren't usually this incompetent. Several of our friends don't have power yet. What a guano show.
It sucks for sure but I would argue that they ARE usually this incompetent. We were without power for 15 days after Ike in the 1960/Champions area. And that wasn't terribly unusual. The Houston area just isn't hardened to deal with something like this and the scale of the damage vs. resources makes it very difficult for them to respond quicker.

I would argue that they are demonstrating whole new levels of idiocy. Having no crews stationed nearby briefed and ready to go is a new low for them. When even the city can't get answers or service from them, someone(s) really effed up.

Yeah, Ike hit us hard. It took over two weeks to get our power back as well (East End). Neighbors across the street were up and running a few days after

This storm was weird. Didn't seem like a big one to get alarmed by but I haven't seen this many trees and fences torn apart in a long time.

It’s not abnormal to be without power for a week or more. Especially homes that haven’t been updated to new systems.

Huh? I don’t follow.
Following big storms. We’ve been out for almost 10 days. The overhead lines are typically last to get restored. Newer neighborhoods are underground.

Hmmm. Ive been through quite a few and haven’t ever been out for a week or more. In fact, I think the five days we were out this time was the longest.

Where are you that you’ve been out for almost ten days? That’s before Beryl made landfall. Or are you saying that you’ve been out for 10 days on a previous occasion?

I think he may be in New England. It's more common up there. All those trees. And hills.

It's weird for here except on a house-by-house basis.

Florida. It’s less common now, but my parents were out for 10 days after Irma. Granted, I think that one hit us as a Cat 4.

Mr R says the onagerhat that is running Centerpoint is the same dude that ran Halliburton into the ground.

Whoops. That's PG&E. They had to declare bankruptcy.

I booked a hotel room in Columbus to stay after house sitting up near Austin this weekend to get away from things.

Got a call from Centerpoint that my power was back on. Drove back, stopped at hotel on way for personal touch relating situation. Very nice youmg woman waived the cancellation fee.

House was already cooled off, and ice maker 1/3 full when I got home last night. Still no internet, but glad it didn't take until Wednesday for power as they'd said.
