I’m starting to take some liberties at work (1 Viewer)

Ours is one of those.  Old school.  Never made the switch.  Unlimited accrual of PTO days with no carry over limitation.  When you leave you get that amount.  It is a burden on our books but not easy to unwind.  They'd have to pay out everyone that start clean.
My dad was a state employee and they had different pots for vacation days and sick days.  He never took a single sick day in his career of 35+ years and had about 6 months of vacation days left when he retired.  If I remember correctly, they paid him for 3ish years his full salary after he retired

The people I hate are those who have a ton of sick days but are bound and determined never to use one. They come into work hacking all over the once healthy employees just to prove what awesome workers they are.

One American value I absolutely hate is the imbalance between work and life we have.  I’m sorry but there is nothing noble or praise-worthy about working or emailing through the birth of your children.

I agree it’s pretty stupid. But isn’t there something at least mildly noble about hard work and sacrifice?  I think so.

I agree on both points.  It is a fine balance.  I think one important thing is that when you are with Family is to make sure you are mentally present.  I do work from home after hours occasionally, however I have a bad habit of checking emails on my phone while at home.  Don’t get me started on my Apple Watch receiving emails, work IM’s, etc.

I like the idea of putting my phone on the charger as soon as I get home and leaving it until the next morning, but I am not sure it’s practical for me.  Why can’t we go back to the old days of the avocado green phone with the 10’ cord on the wall in the kitchen.

It all depends on what you are sacrificing and what you gain. Sacrificing to build your own business may be noble.

Sacrificing for a corporation that only cares about the quarterly result and the stock price....no thanks.

Sacrificing to build a successful career so you can support your family is not a bad thing. As you say, it all depends.
