I hate the gym in January (2 Viewers)

So yes, this is getting tiresome and has completely diverged away from the point of the thread.
What was that anyway?
I think it was him whining because he thinks he owns the gym.
Glad to see you jumped on that bandwagon too. You guys just jump on the bandwagon faster than Laker fans. Unfortunate you aren't capable of original thoughts. It would be much more entertaining.
This thread didn't go quite like you had pictured it, did it?

I'll take these guys over the lifers who feel like they own the place, and thus proceed to leave stacks of weight on every piece of free weight equipment, and use the excuse of the latest Muscle & Fitness cover workout to lay claim to three pieces of equipment at once.

"Don't touch that bench!"

"But you're squatting."

"I'm squatting AND benching!!!"

:goodposting: No, not just a good posting...a great one. How about a little tolerance towards others, huh? I don't hit the gym 6-7 days a week. I'm in there 2-3 times a week and I don't do cardio workouts inside. I'm outside 52 weeks of the year doing 3-4 runs each week.

But, still the "lifers" lump me in with the other resolution newbies and grumble that I'm in their way. Sorry man, we aren't all training for the cover of Muscle and Fitness.
I don't use the weights at the gym. I stay in cardio shape because I am considered high risk for heart disease due to family history and am a recovering cancer patient. At the advice of my doctors, I stay in good cardio shape and keep my weight down. But please, feel free to keep sterotyping me with someone that isn't even remotely like me. And, if you were at my game 52 weeks a year, I guarentee I would know you were a regular since we'd both be running.
:moneybag: Are you always this sensitive or just easily confused? You complained about resolution newbies and Happy responded saying he'd take the newbies over lifers that think they own the gym. I agreed with Happy. At no time did I direct any of my comments towards you. Sorry, but every thing isn't always about you, champ.

Why doesn't he just get a home gym then?
I'm going to have to assume this is sarcasm rather than typing the answer for maybe the 5th or 6th time. Let me know if I'm giving to much credit here. I'm starting to lose track. Maybe throw a "whining" comment in for clarity. There's still room on that bandwagon if you want.

Thank you for serving the country and congratulations on surviving cancer. Now please stop being a ####.
Sometimes you fight fire with fire.
Seriously, though, thank you. And good luck with the ongoing battle with cancer. I think you've earned a lot more respect than you've gotten in this thread.
I completely respect what he has done. I just think he has a lousy attitude toward other people who want to use the gym.

Actually? It went EXACTLY like I expected. Though I expected people to come up with their own material rather than pigggy-backing on one person's comment. It isn't like I'm new here. You've been in enough Christianity threads to know EXACTLY how things work in this forum.

It was a rant posted after I drove back. I was pissed at the time. But it has grown beyond expectations. No way I can let it go now. Not after some of the crud brought up in here. Had it stuck to the original point, or yours here? Would have died long ago. But once the personal insults started, nah, time to bring it.

You should get to the gym more. Might toughen you up some.

Could you give me a list of all the available bandwagons so I can make an informed decision? TIA

Whatever you say Chach. I can se where talking about new people in the gym required a Muscle and Fitness reference.

I'd probably go first thing in the morning.
Now there you go, a funny one! Nice to see you're trying harder again.

Er...what? Who's stereotyping you, here? You said you hate thing A about the gym. I said I hate thing B about the gym. The other guy agreed with me.Life, like gym membership, isn't all about people being out to get you. Paranoia isn't helping that heart condition.
Your post referred to the weight area. His refered to Muscle and Fitness. Seems like the obvious conclussion to me. It's pretty straight forward what his point was. Maybe the name should be changed from FFA to Bait and Switch. Seems to be the trend in this thread.
I find it hard to argue with his conclussion.
I don't. The Op stated a certain type of gym member he finds annoying - the resolution newbie. Happy posted the type he finds annoying - the lifer that owns the place. I agreed with Happy. So, explain to me how I was stereotyping and attacking TxBuckeye exactly, TIA.

You're a good man CE, no matter how much crap I've given you in this thread. That's why I've defended you (or I should say your points) in a few others.

Is paranoia this rampant in the US military? If so, I'm glad I'm Canadian. Keep arguing TB, you are essentially fighting with yourself at this point. I thought the hair trigger military types portrayed in movies, etc. were fictional. But, based on this thread....I'm not so sure now.

Nice of you to be so encouraging.
I encourage them to walk outside on the sidewalk for thie two weeks before they invariably disappear like every other year they garbage up the gym for thier amazing two week workout regiment.
I suggest you buy your own gym so that you can screen all potential members.
winnerbest move i ever made was building my own gym.i feel the OP's pain though.
Are you offering to build the addition to my house that would hold all of this gym equipment? If so, I'll start contacting contractors ASAP! Otis can probably help me with that.
Dude, I have an elliptical, dumbells up to 145, 1000lbs of free weights and a full cage in one car stall in my garage. You don't need much room.

Type A personalties all. At least the warfighters. Pacifists don't really fit in, you know?

Talking about new people didn't. Talking about annoyances did. I'm a "lifer" myself. But I keep to myself in there, as pretty much all I use are treadmills and the power racks. I'm conscientious about keeping the equipment free of stray weights, and I hate to see people standing around waiting for guys who are hogging multiple pieces of equipment at once. I was just joining you in lamenting how people who regard the gym as less of a community for serious working out, and more as their own personal playground for ####### around in, can ruin it for others. Now, admittedly, it long ago stopped being about that, and became about making fun of you. But I can hardly be blamed for that, under the circumstances.

Chach? Seriously?

Cant wait for later when i get to graze the New Year herd for the first time this week... should be fun. Good times. I personally love the newbies... they typically stay on the Nautilus machines and/or cardio equipment. Things I have no desire to train on this time of the year anyway.

Maybe I'll snap some pics for the thread. :goodposting:

I brought my phone with me yesterday, to do just this. The guy at the front desk didn't seem to appreciate me taking pictures

I have no idea why?

I only have one story from today. Things seemed real tame, but in my spin class a guy showed up wearing cargo shorts, a golf shirt, and an undershirt underneath (A leather belt too) as if he was leaving from there to tee it up at the local muni. He made it approximately 15 minutes into the one hour class before leaving. I imagine that's the last time he'll ever be seen in that facility. I was actually worried his heart might actually explode.

Zero issue getting access to my machines afterwards.

There was even hot water in the shower which was nice. Usually January is just a month of cold showers.

Update:

Stayed at work a 1/2 hour later than usual hoping the keg party atmosphere had dissipated by the time I got down to the gym. Seemed to be perfect timing. Somehow I miraculously got on the grip-n-go, and it was like the cops broke up the party about 15 minutes into my workout. The only negative is I got home a 1/2 hour later than usual, and didn't get my Boise St. bet in on time.

Posted my feelings about the NY's resolution phenomenon on facebook yesterday and have gotten 100% positive feedback thus far.

So... you get a free gym, AND you get paid time to use it, and you're #####ing because you have to share it for a couple weeks a year? Yeah, that's a raw deal alright. :bs:

Man, starting to feel like a broken record repeating myself. I could certainly do it then. BUT MORNINGS ARE THE MOST CROWDED TIME OF THE DAY AT THE BASE GYM.
ALL OF YOUR BASE GYM BELONG TO US
CATS: YOU HAVE NO CHANCE TO USE CARDIO. MAKE YOUR TIME.

What the hell ever happened to tying on some running shoes and taking off around the neighborhood? I never understood why anyone would run on a treadmill, at least if the weather won't kill you.
It was about 19 degrees here in Atlanta this morning, with near 0 wind chill. I ain't running in that.
We ran in Decatur at 5:30 this morning... an inner and outer layer of Cold Gear and I was all nice and toasty. It's great for outdoor activities in cold weather, I own about 5 Cold Gear turtlenecks.
:lmao: love the Cold-gear...it's a must-have for running in the freezing cold we have for 4 months of the year here.
I've never heard of Cold Gear but will have to look into it. I've been breaking out the same old thermals and long sleeve t's and sweatshirts for a while but never all that happy with them. My main uses would be running, skiing, and freezing my ### off at football games... what would you recommend? Where's the best place to buy and do they ever have any good deals on them? Thanks!
Under Armour makes the Cold Gear brand. You can find it at most sports chains like a ####'s or Sports Authority. It's great for cold weather outdoor activities where you sweat and the moisture is dispersed but it still keeps you warm. It's generally pretty pricey and I rarely see Under Armour gear on sale. I use mine a lot for hiking, backpacking, caving, running, and biking which is why I have 5 of them. They also make a 2nd layer Cold Gear that zips over the mock layer. 2 layers a hat and gloves and I was fine running in 8 degree weather this morning.fyi - I did try one of the Cold Gear Metal shirts that was marketed to be stronger, but I used it caving a couple of times and it started fraying so I stick with the normal Cold Gear shirts and haven't had any problems.

Well, that settles it. Thanks.
I know, huh?And a coworker expressed similar feelings about this with me on IM just a 1/2 hour ago. Game. Set. Match.

Well, I'm not sure what Finhead was talking about, but I'm just talking about simple Under Armour or Nike "cold gear" clothing lines. I think Under Armour's line is actually called Cold Gear, I'm not sure what Nike's line is called. I have a few turtlenecks and long-sleeve crew neck shirts that are great, along with a few pairs of the spandex-esque leggings. I just ran outside a few hours ago in 20 degree weather in shorts and a tshirt...with the Cold Gear underneath. Stuff works great.I don't ski much anymore, but when I did, I used to always wear the Under Armour. Same with Bills games....I always wear em when I go to the stadium once the temperature hits 40 degrees or so.
