I hate the gym in January (1 Viewer)

Been doing p90 and am about ready to go back to the gym. I don't wont to be one of those lumped in with the resolution crowd though. I may wait until mid Feb to start back.

yep. never understood the complaints. join a crossfit or small gym and pay extra if you don't want lots of people around. otherwise, enjoy the big gym luxuries for far less than you may have to pay if the resolution people didn't show

I wasn't complaining, sport. I was mocking the premise of the OP. HTH.

I'm so fat I won't even bother this year. I'll pick this up in March after the crowd dies down.

It's amazing how eating chips and ice cream is so much easier than going to the gym. Especially once you get married and life is pretty much over anyway.

The answer is STOP going to the gym.

If you're not fat, you don't have to exercise so much.

If you're fat, you need to eat better first. Just going to the gym won't fix your problem.

If you like to exercise then there are more fun things you can do, like outdoor sports, than going to the gym. Better yet, do some volunteer work in your community that requires physical movement.

Why pay expensive membership fees and fight the crowd to use the treadmill? You can simply run in place or skip some rope at home. Weight lifting? Try lifting your own wife a few times a day, or your child if you're not so strong.

You're a teacher, right? Lift a couple of big text books. Just moved into a new house? Walk around your neighborhood and meet more people who live near you. Join a dance class.

Or, in your case, build a gym out of some spare parts lying around in a barn, jog in deep snow, and run up a mountain.

P90X = No gym required.
How do you stay motivated with P90X?
I stand in front of the mirror naked.
I should try that, even though I don't think seeing you naked in the mirror would motivate me.
I don't know. Seeing me naked has been known to have a profound effect on people.

In the winter, it really depends if I will get enough exercise just from shoveling snow on the ground, and clearing snow and scraping ice off my car :lmao: . This gave me another free workout idea: volunteer to shovel snow for your elderly neighbors.

If that doezn't motivate you then I don't see why paying for a gym membership will help. That false assumption is exactly why the gym is less crowded after March.

It would motivate you not to look in mirrors.

Somehow my requisition to the wife for a 25yd pool in the backyard has been unapproved thus far...

This. My wife is knocked up, she's not going anywhere. Who am I looking pretty for now?
#######it O. Do we need to have a real chat? Angrywife is in a delicate condition with the second, I have a raging alcohol dependency, and I've still managed to keep the weight down.

Fortunately you're the husband, and this mentality is acceptable. If you were the wife, this attitude would be grounds for divorce. At least according to the folks on this board.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

The boy's only 18 months old and he's already pretty uppity. Need to keep in shape so I can kick his ### when the need arises.

Already do that. Besides, I'm looking to have an all over toned body, not muscular arms. And it's too late, I already joined.

I googled good exercises for people with big butts and going to the gym wasn't one of the answers.Link

Biking may be the best option for you.

See if you can dig up some good exercises for people with fat ears.

There are many good Yoga exercises for fat ears and ears of any size.Link

I think your best option is alternate nostril breathing.

ETA: I suggest that you sleep on your back until the Yoga starts working.

The complaints are actually pretty easy to understand. On January 1, it suddenly becomes much more difficult to get on a machine, which makes workouts less pleasant. Two months later, things are back to normal, but it's inconvenient in January and February.HTH.

Several years ago my wife and I decided that our health was a priority and we purchased an elliptical, as well as a home gym. So we haven't been annoying or annoyed at the gym for quite a while. If it bothers you this much I would suggest that you do the same.
Are you offering to build the addition to my house that would hold all of this gym equipment? If so, I'll start contacting contractors ASAP! Otis can probably help me with that.
Jump on it quick....can't really beat upgrading to a double wide on someone else's dime.

Looks like I can't be anything but buff this year. Another snow storm is coming, up to 20 inches this time. Crap!

Biking maybe good for the butt, not so good for the boys in the sack.

I find that once I start exercising on a regular basis, I start eating better as a result which is counter to your point. I eat less sweets, smaller portions and overall healthier food because I start feeling better by exercising and don't want to "ruin it" by eating like crap. When I think that I want another Christmas cookie or another pile of mashed potatoes, I just think about how much longer I have to work out to burn off those calories and I decide against it. Exercise is a good deterrent when making choices at the kitchen table.

I both hate and love going to the gym. I wouldn't go if I had to pay for a membership though. Perhaps the only real perk to being a coach is the access to the facilities. For me I love the discipline of making myself go and doing something that is somewhat unpleasant. I just find it a challenge to keep doing it. I am far from being "built" but I do enjoy being in good enough shape that if I have to run 30 yards, I am not about to fall out. Also my body feels better when I am working out. I am getting to the age where "use it or lose it" is starting to apply. I tend to stay away from playing sports due to the fact that I tend to injure myself because I still want to play like I did 20 years ago. Also I get enough competition through my job, I have a hard time just playing for fun.
