I just Laid all my chips down for Eddie Royal in Blind Bid (1 Viewer)

One of my 14 team PPR leagues has no FA aquirements until after Week 1. Luckly, no one drafted Eddie Royal during the 3 round FA/Rookie Draft.

We have a $1000 Blind Bid Balance, I laid all $1000 chips on the table last night and sure enough hes on my squad this morning.

Was this a shark move or overkill to blow the rest of this yrs Blind Bidding and force myself to wait until friday mornings to pick any FAs during the rest of the season.

Overkill. I'd imagine you could have had him for a lot less. Even half your chips. I don't do any blind bidding, but that seems like big time overkill. :goodposting:

What was the next highest bid ?

Seems like dramatic overkill to me, no telling what Marshall's return will do to his numbers.

Yep...overkill....no telling how much Marshall is going to cut into his production once he returns this week.....

I'd say that the overkill lies in you having to start a thread about what you did instead of including this in one of the other 5 Eddie Royal threads.

14-team PPR? I would imagine pickins are slim, so you could end up fine. Sometimes you have to makes ballsy moves to win championships.

Congrats. You just blew your entire wad on a guy that will play second :own3d: to Brandon Marshall as of this Sunday.

For about a week.Look at this way...how often do ROOKIE WR's crack the starting lineup of an NFL team in WEEK 1?And don't bother saying it was because Marshall was suspended. Royal will be starting this week too.Now ask yourself when the last time a rookie WR in the opening week of the NFL led the league in catches and yardage?Don't forget that he did it against a veteran top-shelf corner. Yes Dhall is a moron but he's a very good corner and he got SCHOOLED.....by a ROOKIE WR.To the OP...Yes...you probably blew your wad. Hope you only needed a WR to complete your team. I did...and I blew mine too.Alll $100 of my blind bid money on him. I KNEW I should've drafted him.

Overkill. Kid will be good, but you prob only needed to spend less than 50% of your chips. Now what are you gonna do if your players get hurt??

I'm not sure I'd start Royal next week. He looked good with Marshall out, vs a really bad team. If he gets 2 carries for 21 yards next week, you might not be so happy.

Those are good rushing numbers for a WR.Seriously though, Jay Cutler is a good QB. He's capable of throwing for 3500+ yards. Not all of them will go to Brandon Marshall. People are being really narrow minded if they think Marshall will completely eliminate Royal's FF value. Good players get opportunities to make plays.

this is impossible to answer without knowing about your team.

some may call it overkill, but blind bid free-agency is all about taking the shot when it's there and being right. chances are, there will be 2-4 RBs come along that will be difference makers. if you don't foresee yourself needing one of those, then i think you likely made a wise purchase in royal.

if a RB will likely not be what you need, then there is only one question: will there be another WR FA come along that will be more valuable than royal?

i don't foresee that happening.

if royal is the impact WR we (i) think he can be, no amount of money is too much. i'd have saved a few bucks for minor pickups, but in principle, i don't think what you did is too bad.

I think it was the right move, BTW. A guy did this in my dynasty league two years ago with Colston and I don't think he regrets it.

You probably won't get a better shot at landing a future impact player off the WW all season, so you made the right decision.

Frisman Jackson.
Apples to oranges. Frisman was a UDFA and I believe he was the third WR on the team that year. His game was an obvious fluke.Anyone who watched the Denver/Oakland game saw that Shanahan clearly wanted Royal highly involved in the offense. That says something significant.

I bid 32/100 and the winner bid 33.

In hindsight, I should've bid a lot more. Players like this don't appear very often on the FA list.

Don't feel bad, I dropped him before the season started in order to pickup Jerry Porter (who someone else dropped). If course someone else picked up him the next day. I have Marshall and figured no way I would start both... and what were the chances of him panning out?

Oh well, I couldn't have known. Considering he was a free agent in most leagues, apparently nobody knew... still, I feel like an idiot.

If Randle El was a free agent would you put all 1K on a bid for him instead? Because that's the kind of production you're looking at for Royal the rest of the season as long as Marshall is playing.

Nothing wrong with bidding high for a talent like Royal. But using your entire cap? You're now screwed for the rest of the season.

Heres my team... Bolded the startersLine up is QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 WR/RB, TE, K

Ben Roethlisberger PIT QB

Kellen Clemens (IR) NYJ QB

Kevin Kolb (IR) PHI QB

Tarvaris Jackson MIN QB

Ben is a solid starter, I'm in need of a better back up

Chris Henry TEN RB

J.J. Arrington ARI RB

Jerious Norwood ATL RB

LaMont Jordan NWE RB

Marion Barber DAL RB

Michael Turner ATL RB

Pierre Thomas NOR RB

Reggie Bush NOR RB

RBs are set for now, I have Bush's and Turner's back ups.

Bernard Berrian MIN WR

Eddie Royal DEN WR

Kevin Curtis PHI WR

Reggie Wayne IND WR

Ronald Curry OAK WR

Shaun McDonald DET WR

Vincent Jackson SDG WR

Maybe after seeing my WRs, you can see why I did this. I need a guy like Royal, or at least take a shot on what looked like a very talented WR. My WR2 was Curtis as weak as that sounds... and hes hurt.

Chris Cooley

Greg Olsen

When Marshall comes back... I'm not going to expect a huge night like Monday. But Good players produce, especially when their in good offenses. Eddie looked like hes going to be great.

Like I said in an earlier post, one guy admitted that he bidded $860+ for him... so all you poster in here saying that you would of only done half your wad or less would not have Royal on your team this morning. Yes, I'll miss out on picking up someones #3 RB when the starter goes done, most back up RB are already owned... or I'll miss my chance at the #4 WR on a team when he gets his shot at the end of the yr. Or I'll miss out on the next Matt Moore this yr.... Poor me.

this was also an "know your opponent move"; A couple of People in this league aren't afraid of spending thier whole wad on one player; last yr... one guy did this for D Ward after BJ got hurt in game 1.

And heres some highlights of the Bids that processed.

$387 Anthony Fasano, TE (MIA)

$67 John Carlson, TE (SEA)

$300 J.T. O'Sullivan, QB (SFO)

$400 Matt Cassel, QB (NWE)

$1,000 Brett Favre, QB (NYJ) :P guy already hade Rivers and Campbell too

$201 Josh Morgan, WR (SFO)

$101 Kyle Orton, QB (CHI)

Now ask yourself when the last time a rookie WR in the opening week of the NFL led the league in catches and yardage?
Anquan BoldinI'm kicking myself for not picking him up off waivers when I read all the buzz. I don't think he's the next Boldin, but at the very least I could have traded him for draft picks (keeper league).

Shark Move or Overkill?

If you have to ask this question, I think you should know the answer.

At least you got the guy you wanted. Can't aruge w/ that.

I think all of these Royal debates come down to one simple question, what do you think of Jay Cutler? If you think this is the year he throws for 30 TD/4,000+ yards then Royal is looking very promising. If you think he's closer to the 20 TD/3500 yards (he had last year) then Royal is probably just another receiver.

The shark move was to have drafted Royal in the first place.
No kidding What kind of league didn't draft him or grab him after the glowing reports at TC?
What kind of 14 team league doesn't Royal get drafted in?
yea he was gone in the second in both my 12 teamers...that said he didnt get drafted in this guy league. right now royal would fetch a first round pick, Knowing I could still do free for all pickups I would probably give all my bidding dollars for a first rounder :lmao:

In a dynasty, no less. I'm not gonna crap all over it, who knows all the details, but that's really... surprising... that Royal wouldn't go in a rookie draft of a dynasty league that deep.Hell, he went 13th round of my 12 teamer redraft. :P Weird.

Depends on the league setup a bit. I think a lot of the early responders assumed redraft.

In a dynasty, I see no reason not to go get the guy. At all. Sure looks like a Colston/Boldin situation. May not turn out that way, but there's certainly a chance that it does. In the leagues I'm in, those FA bid points aren't THAT valuable and be glad to give away a season's worth for a shot at a Colston or Boldin etc.

Guys with upside like his just don't generally become available as free agents in the middle of the season, and it's NOT that hard to wait until after the primary waivers are run to pick up bye week fillers (during open free agency period as most leagues have).

Drastic OVER REACTION

...and to have started him last week along with Rosario... ...and then to have traded them both for LBJ and a Value Meal on Tuesday morning...

A league w/ small rosters.
Uhhhhhh.... this league certainly does NOT have small rosters. He has 21 players between his QB,RB,WR, and TE. This doesn't account for Kickers and Defense. So 21*14 = 294 players. Maybe i'm crazy but that doesn't seem small to me.
