I Know What Your Kid Wants For Christmas - Two Wheel Scooter (1 Viewer)

Saw one of these outside my office today and everyone was stopping the guy to see what it was (including myself). It's basically a non-lame Segway and your kid will be asking for one soon.

The IO Hawk appears to be the original one but seems over-priced. From what I can tell, the Mono Rover is the same thing and much cheaper.

ETA: If you think this is for the lazy, I can assure you it's not. You need a very strong core to balance on this thing for long periods.

As if those kids shoes with the wheels built in weren't enough. I know, I know... get off my lawn... but I've had more than one occasion where some little twerp's almost run into me with those things on. Once in an airport (!!!).

I told my wife that we would be a total partnership in raising our kids but if she ever bought those shoes for our kids they'd be in the fire pit in the blink of an eye.

Pretty cool but not much clearance on the axle, plus small wheels. I'm disappointed nobody biffed it at high speed on the road.

Just looked up the monorover on Amazon. 1" of clearance and it can traverse a .5" gap; not good.

I read that it's recommended for age 14 - 45. :lmao: Despite that, could this be the next big Medicaid scam instead of those scooters?

Looks like a great device but the marketing contained within the video is epically bad. Could not make it to the finish.

Saw a 7 foot guy riding on one of these at Laguardia a couple weeks ago. Standing on that thing he was even more ridiculously tall, almost seemed like he might hit his head, and he was all decked out in a wacky outfit. Everyone was staring, it was quite a spectacle.

The thing looked pretty cool. When someone asked I overheard him say it was his friend's company or something.

Everyone is buying these cheap (~$200) from China and marking them up 100-500%.

I saw a grown ### man in the grocery store yesterday riding one of these, pushing his shopping cart.

This is the only thing my 13yo daughter has asked for for Xmas, and has been asking for a couple months now. I see there are some models ~$275-280. That's better than the $600 one she originally found.

$600 for the "cheap" one?!?!

Just pulled the trigger on one of these for my kids birthday. Will report back.
What manufacturer? So many of them on Amazon and people are saying to make sure you get the most current generation. Does the tire size also matter?

Looking for any suggestions or reviews from those that have one.

Size doesn't matter, it's how you roll it.

If you want to take it off the sidewalk at all then I suggest bigger wheels than the 6.5" ones (they have almost zero ground clearance).

My son bought one of these over the summer from his savings. Thing is pretty cool and he was a whiz at it within minutes. I had to do some minor repairs to it after it hit a curb one time, but it is pretty sturdy.

what brand?
They are all the same Chinese scooter, you shouldn't pay more than $300 for one.

BTW, the ones on Amazon are just people buying them in bulk from China for ~$200 and reselling them.

Who's the guy who named these wheeled units "hoverboards?" To me the hoverboard is the holy grail and we all know what it looks like, a board that floats on air.

Hoverboard

been seeing a bunch of these in NYC.

pretty freaking cool how they work... but not sure a busy sidewalk is the place for them.

~$264 is about as cheap as I can find. Now there's one in the "sponsored links" that sends you to a Chinese website where you can buy for $178, but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try that.

Just a heads up

I ordered two of these yesterday for my kids as their big Santa present

Delivery got changed this morning to Dec 7-23. I'm playing a dangerous game since there is a chance it doesn't make it.

Amazon? Which seller?
I chose this one. Not sure why, other than it was on the lower end of the price scale. Since I needed two, I didnt want to pay too much. Reviews seem good enough. Got a skyblue and green one

Saw one for $218 yesterday but today the lowest is $254.

Same here. Different seller, but I think they're all the same. I picked one based on positive seller history. Now Dec. 4-22.

There are sellers that have inventory in the US with prime shipping if you don't want to risk missing xmas delivery...you'll pay more though.
