I shoulda played more kickball (1 Viewer)

Josh Brown, who the Seahawks franchised, signed a one year contract for more than $2 million.

Kickers are underappreciated. I feel it is one of the hardest jobs in sports. Josh Brown a STARTING kicker and one of the better ones in the league will get paid 2 million dollars this year, while Turner gets franchised and will be paid 2.5 million dollars to play a back up role. Very interesting.

It and the QB are really just about the only positions in football that get analyzed separately of the surrounding cast. Add in the lack of respect for being a kicker, and it's easily the #1 goat position - less credit when it's going well than anyone else, more blame than anyone possibly short of a QB when it's not.If you've got a poor snapper or holder, you can have trouble. Bad blockers, ditto.

Kudos to the Seahawks. I will never, ever understand why teams will waste millions on signing bonuses for backups who hold clipboards, but cut good kickers to save a few hundred grand.Home field advantage, division titles and wildcard spots often come down to just one game. Games often come down to just a couple of points, and a field-goal can change a team's strategy at the end of games. Why throw all that away?

When the game is close, Josh Brown seems to make the kicks. He's worth double what they paid him imo.

Let's look at it a different way in the Brown vs Turner debate.

Brown plays on field goals, points after, and kickoffs. I believe Turner also plays on special teams (although I'm not sure). So on a per play basis, Brown plays maybe 5 plays a game of note (the kicks for points). On a per play basis, Brown's salary would factor out to like $20+ million if he played as much as other positional players. And he rarely gets hit or has to tackle anyone, so IMO it's a pretty sweet deal. Obviously he can win or lose games with a single attempt so the pressure is there, but the amount he plays and lack of physical pounding still is relatively minimal.

I see this but at no point (very small chance) will a player ever feel the same pressure of the game on the line being a back up RB or special teams player (not including the kicker). Yes there is always the small chance of pulling a Romo but not even close to that of a kicker. The only other sport that is similar would be good Closers in baseball who are worth the money.Kickers don't play as much as other players but that does not make them any less valuable then back ups and special teamers.

Great signing, though I would like to see a few more years on the contract.

Brown won 4 Seahawk games last year if my memory is correct.
