I think my commish manipulated my playoff bracket... (1 Viewer)

My first time in the league... payouts are as follows... best record 250$.. make the super bowl 250$ *2 teams*, win 250$... overall most you can win is $750.

I locked the #1 seed up weeks ago my record stands at 13-1.. 2nd is at 10-4, 3rd and 4th are tied at 8-6. Now the commish is the 4th seed tied at 8-6. In every other league I've ever played in and I've been doing fantasy football for about 7 years now, the 1st seed always played the 4th seed, then the 2nd played the 3rd. I just looked at the playoff bracket, I'm playing the 3rd seed and 2nd is playing the 4th seed (the commish). My team is stacked, I have 400 more points for my team then anybody else.. huge margin. Now the 3rd place team is actually 2nd strongest in my league.. very good team that just caught some bad breaks. I think my commish made up the playoff schedule so that he can play the 2nd place team, which is actually the 3rd weakest with him last. I think he's giving himself the best opportunity to make it to the super bowl.

My question to you guys, doesn't the 1st seed always play the 4th and 2nd always play the 3rd??? My mindset is that I'd have to knock all these teams off anyway but seeing as though I am the 1st seed, shouldn't I enjoy the fruits by playing the 4th seed? There was no playoff bracket that I can look at prior to the playoffs, it always said...

It depends on your league's rules, but I can't believe that there would be any justifiable way that the 4th seed plays the 2nd, and the 3rd seed plays the 1st. Was the 3rd seed last in points scored? Otherwise, it doesn't really make sense.

Sounds like you need to review the league rulebook....that should be in there somewhere.

If not...then I think you are screwed.

I would ask the commish to explain, don't accuse, just explain.

Nope, just checked... points scored with respected team 1917.7(1st), 1651.8(3rd), 1555.2(2nd), 1520.7(4th, and commish)

Since the 3rd/4th place teams had the same record are you sure about the tie-breaker rules? The commish could have actually placed 3rd based on tie-breaker.

If you can't find a copy of the rules just ask the commish. As others have said don't start accusing him of anything but just ask for clarification of the rules.

Good luck....

Edit...just because the web site lists the standings for tied teams based on points the actual tie break could be head to head matchup? How did the commish do against the team he's tied with in the standings?

the 3rd place team and him were always tied neck and neck... the fact that the 3rd place team has more points... doesn't that make him the higher seed? Which would still place the commish at 4th... I'm just going to leave a message on the message board asking for clarification.. Thanks guys.

It's whatever your league rules say for tiebreakers. Plain and simple. In many leagues I'm in, it's head-to-head first, then points scored or division record. But in one particular record I'm going to miss being the #1 seed because I have the same record as another team, and despite beating him head-to-head and having a better division record, the first tiebreaker is points scored, which he has me by about 60 points. So it can be different...

Check the rules. If the placements are wrong, gently point it out to the Commish. No need to make a fuss...

With a 2 team tie it could be head to head matchup. Who won the game the played during the season?
Or division record. The tie breaker equation should be set in your league rules. If it's not there, then not sure what more you can do. You need to validate it on the website.

I had this happen to me once. My team had Culpepper and Harrison when they were exploding along with Tiki Barber. I was the #1 seed and come to find out I play the #4 (averaged ~5 points lower than me and in my division) seed in the second round while the #2 seed (averaged 20 points lower than me) was playing the #6 seed that won the first round (averaged 20+ points lower than me).

Needless to say, I lost the game before the Super Bowl but would have won had the match ups been correct and I also would have beaten the team, that I lost to, in the Championship the next week. Cost me $250.

The reason the playoffs were set up like this? They ran them NCAA bracket style and not NFL style. That was the dumbest reason I could have even fathomed. I shut up, took the money I did win, and promptly left the league. That was the suck.

Not sure if you are using MFL, but for whatever reason there standard 6 team bracket ends up matching up 1 vs. 3 and 2 vs. 4 in the 2nd round. If that is what you are using it may not have had anything to do with your commish being shady. He can go in and change it though as that does not sound right. I am not sure why MFL has not fixed this.

It will match 1/4 and 2/3 if you set it up right. What it doesn't do is account for an upset in the 3/6 matchup, which does require a manual fix.

Are you assuming that the commish is the 4th seed because of pts scored or is he listed as the 4th seed? The seed could be determined by H2H and not pts.

Just to clear things up.. only 4 teams make the playoffs in this league, no divisions. It's H2H, I assumed he was the 4th seed because after the last game of the regular season he was #4 in the standings waiting for the league to refresh and the playoff bracket to come up.

Since it's a H2H tiebreaker, you might want to look at the game(s) played between #3 and #4).

So are you saying the mystery is solved or you still haven't gotten an explanation for the seedings? Also, don't assume the standings are reflective of the actual tie-breakers, they may just reflect the criteria the website uses by default.

 In one league I would be the division winner with a bye using the MFL tie-breaker standings, with how our league actually handles tie-breakers, I am out of the playoffs. League rules is what matters.

 I had to do this today, so the #1 would play the #5 and the #2 would play the #3.MFL doesn't have the best setup for the playoffs.

Yeah, check the league rules.

My league for all 5 years has given byes to the division champs and the playoff bracket is setup by division. Unfortunately, Fleaflicker doesn't even given you the option to automatically setup the playoffs by division. So I had to go in and manually re-seed everything so that it was setup by division. Now I have a guy all upset because he was the 2nd best team in the league and had to play the 3rd best team in the league in the first round (and lost). He was upset because there wasn't a special note put up explaining the re-seeding even though I just setup the playoff brackets exactly the same way it's been done since the inception of the league.

The point is, sometimes the league websites simply don't cover every possible option and the commish has to go in and manually fix things. Just ask the commish why things played out the way they did before getting bent out of shape.

I had to manually do this myself, MFL does provide an option for it, it's just that the default causes the matchups you stated above. Luckily I emailed the league how the seedings would work in like week 12, as I am #2 playing #6 (who beat #3), and it could have easily looked like I was trying to manipulate things in my favor.
