I thought LJ couldn't relate to white coaches? (1 Viewer)

"Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson called out the Chiefs after the team's Week 15 loss. "We need to sit down and change something. This is getting ridiculous. Everybody is saying, `Oh, it's fine, it's OK.' I don't know who in their mind thinks this is OK. This is nothing that's OK. We need to change a lot of it. We need to sit down and change a lot. I'm getting tired of hearing that `We'll get `em next week' speech. We need to really start sitting down and knowing what we need to do to put points on the board and what we need to do to do win games," Johnson said. He said opposing defenses have made adjustments to what the Chiefs do and the team has not responded. "They need to fix it. I'm getting tired of this. It's tough running against a brick wall until you break it open, you know? You see other teams do different things; you see different teams react differently. Like I said, you don't have! to bang your head against a brick wall hard enough to crack a hole in it. There are other ways of doing different things." Head coach Herman Edwards said the team's offensive failings have not been because they are too predictable. Edwards feels the team is unable to find an offensive rhythm."

He crosses the line from leadership to just attacking the coaching staff at "THEY need to fix it." Not "WE need to fix it". I suppose even if he had say "We better start making adjustments and making better play calls" it would still have been an attack on the coaching staff.

Also doesn't help that even if this was a misguided attempt at leadership it took place a week or two after KC has been eliminated from the playoffs.

GL Herm, I'm sure LJ will be happen when all those 30+ OL start.... or continue to retire. This could circle the drain fast if Gonzales(who is suddenly more than willing to talk about playing for other teams) leaves. Kennison and Green certainly aren't getting any younger. Law and Surtain played pretty well at CB this year, hope they have found the fountain of youth. Pollard might be a player but he's got two aging vets to replace.

LJ is right on this subject, as a Chiefs fan it is sickening to watch them go through the motions and repeatedly going 3 and out unless LJ or Gonzo make a play. They are way too predictable and Green isn't keeping the Defenses honest with his happy feet back there in the pocket, it is like he is looking out for the linemen coming at him than looking for open WRs and by the time he finds somebody it is too late and he gets sacked or he throws the ball away. It is sad to say, but he is a shell of his former self and Huard gives this team a better chance to win right now.I've been hearing the Herm-bashers all year in KC and until the last couple of weeks I was still on the fence. After the feable attempt at offense in the past few games, I'm ready for a new QB, and moving up in the draft to get a road-grader OL or trading down and getting more bang for our buck to replace the vets that are getting ready to leave this team high and dry on the OL front when they leave. This draft needs to fill some serious holes that they have let go unfilled for years!

Green looks done to me, I think that's problem 1. Not having a top notch receiver is problem 2. The offensive line getting old is problem 3. Given those things the coaching staff doesn't have a lot of leeway to do big things on offense - they're pretty much restricted to trying to get the most out of LJ and Tony G as they possibly can.

The defense hasn't been that bad this year.

LJ is right on this subject
I'm not saying LJ's analysis is wrong but is it really ever a good idea to point your finger at your coaching staff? As I've said in other threads on the subject, they need to rebuild their entire OL, defensive backfield, get a new QB, at least one more receiver. This is a team that should have started rebuilding this year and was kidding itself if it thought it was a contender even with a healthy Trent Green. For the record, I like Herm and think he was a good hire. The front seven has shown a great deal of improvement. Now if they don't just LJ straight into the ground(400? carries to eek out a .500 record) before they actually have a chance to win something they can start to reshape this roster into a contender.

His calling out the coaches needs to be done. If they aren't making adjustments, then who should be called out?

LJ runs his heart out for the team. He is tired of running into a brick wall.

This is what I wish someone like Dwight Freeney would do to call out the defensive coaches in Indy. If you are getting your ### whooped, you make adjustments. The coaches in Indy have yet to make adjustments!

Interesting that Herm and Dungy are close friends and prescribe to a similar coaching style.

Believe me when I say this.....and I am a HUGE KC guy (I naively picked them to beat BAL).....I truly mean this....

I am more excited for the Royals in 2007 than I am for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are circling the drain. They have been great as a business model. .

-Do just enough every season to be in the playoff hunt by having a veteran team.

-Have at least one superstar player (Gonzalez, Priest, LJ, even green for awhile, DT, Montana, Marcus Allen, etc) that gets you attention.

-Get enough preseason hype due to being so close the year before, that your fans get excited every July and put the blinders on.

-Carl Peterson gets lauded as a great GM because of the regular season record.

That is KC 1994-2006. They have not won a playoff game since January 1994, when the handed Warren Moon a loss in his final game as an Oiler.

Now, I am only 27, so I remember very little from the pre-Schottenheimer/Peterson beginning in 1989, but I know it was BAD here in KC. This was a Royals city until the early '90s. What happened for the Chiefs was awesome, but man, since about 1998, it has really gone South.

This thing needs to be blown up.....take it on the chin for awhile....but until Peterson is gone, you will probably see the same deal next season, only a little worse......maybe 6-10.

There is some KC realism for ya'

I told you Chiefs fans to enjoy Herm Edwards! :goodposting:

Honestly, as great as the Chiefs running game has been for years, I still cannot believe they have done little to upgrade their passing game. I mean, Eddie freaking Kennison is still their best wideout!

The problem wasn't the receiving game, it was the defense. They've continued to add pieces to that defense and now they have to work re-upgrading the passing game with wideouts and OL.You can't have it all. While they could've used wideouts in the Vermeil era, they never needed them because the pass protection was so good it allowed Green to find any old guy open down the field. Not the case any more.
