I want some headphones, recommendations? (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for some good headphones. Uses will be for travel, work, and mowing. I think I want wireless. Looking to keep it under $150 or so.

i got bose ones, but not the noise reduction. Love them. Not as much bass as Beats, but sounded better to me in the store. I also like that the cord is a separate piece that is replaceable if it should go bad. I have had mine for years and they are great.

i forget the model # though

the new Bob Marley headphones look cool in the display

Jaybird makes some good bluetooth earbuds and offered excellent support in my experience.

Good sound and are comfortable enough to wear for several hours at a time. I bought a pair off amazon about 2 years ago for $90. Worked great for about 18 months and then wouldn't charge, which I thought was due to my mangling of the cable. Spent $10 on a new cable but they still didn't work, so I contacted support. Shipped them back and they replaced mine with a newer model even though they were 6 months past the warranty.

I have never had a pair of earbuds I could wear long enough to finish mowing the grass. Just really uncomfortable for me.

Also, do earbuds do well for airplane travel? Do they manage the external noise well? Really thinking I want over the ear.

Over ear is better for isolation on airplanes.

Foam tips are a lot better than silicone ones for earbud comfort, isolation and sound quality.

I bought a set of these last year and have had good luck with them:

http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headphones-Invisible/dp/B004Y4XVOK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424371303&sr=8-1&keywords=350+headphones

I bought them mainly for listening to podcasts and football so I wasn't worried about bass or sound quality. My wife didn't like them because they weren't complete over the hear headphones, but they work well for what I use them for.

We bought our children these for Christmas:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/skullcandy-hesh-2-unleashed-wireless-bluetooth-over-the-ear-headphones-black/8615409.p?id=1219354100967&skuId=8615409

My wife uses them more than the kids do. I can't say anything for sound quality, but they have withstood the usage of a 7 yr old and a 10 yr old so for and my wife likes them.

Wait. So you have to have the base plugged into whatever you are streaming from, and the base BTs to the earphones? Am I understanding this correctly? You cant just BT from your (phone) to the headset?

Is this the way all the BT headsets work?
No, a true bluetooth will connect just like a bluetooth mic or other bluetooth device does.

Here you go. Can't speak for any of these products but gizmodo generally does a good job.

Also, I think the jabra move is currently on sale for $89 ish on amazon

Sorry about that, yep, forgot that my receiver doesn't have Bluetooth. :bag:

Maybe these work without the base?

I got these Sony headphones for Christmas to use with my iPhone since I travel a decent amount. So much nicer without the wires and they were on sale at Costco for $99 with one of their coupon rebates. For that, well worth it. Not sure if they are the best, but for $99, they are solid, especially with Bluetooth.

:blackdot:

Very interested here as well...would love to have a good pair of wireless, cancelling, over the ear phones for mowing and movies. Need to find something with range though as I've got an acre to mow/maintain

can't you just put your phone in your pocket and cast the bluetooth from it?

I could if I had a pair of noise cancelling or BT headphones. I need to blast my current mid-range wired earbuds to be able to hear anything on the mower today. Plus, my father in law will be coming for an extended stay this summer after his first grand-daughter is born, so his ability to utilize something like this with TV and movies would be greatly appreciated as well. (they just dropped $600 on a stroller/carseat thing for us, so it's as much a thank you for him)

Love the Audio Technica ATH 70X's. Very open and clear without a lot of pumping like Beats. I like monitor phones. Expensive though.

I didn't like the 50x's as much.

Yeah monitors are the best period. I guess though only if you're looking for a flat, even response. Not that I've looked but do they make wireless monitors? They must...

I love these cheapies. They wouldn't work for mowing, but for everything else they work great for me.

$29

I bought my wife these, and she's totally thrilled with them - she stopped using her wired Bose headphones once she got these:

http://smile.amazon.com/Jabra-REVO-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00BFO14W8/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1433633685&sr=1-4&keywords=wireless+headphones+jabra

$119

Both were bought based on a pretty thorough look at different reviews/recommendations. Two different price points, but both have been very successful.

ETA: I've been happy when following reviews from this site: http://thewirecutter.com/leaderboard/headphones/

Also, every review seems to agree that Beats suck.

Also, I just read the Gizmodo review - if the Jabra Moves don't have on-ear controls, that would absolutely rule them out for me. I always want to be able to pause immediately if someone wants to talk to me instead of taking off my gloves, digging my iPhone out of my pocket, then fighting through to find a way to pause the music (it always rotates just as I'm pressing). On-ear controls!

They make a lot of different ones. I use them on the bike and the cord isn't an issue.

The Moves have on ear controls. They would be my recommendation. $69 on Amazon right now.

If you buy something like this from China that is impossibily low priced, and you inevitably get a ####ty product, you deserve what you get.

Those are sweet. Like those and the good old Sennheiser cans.

I just got the Bose Soundlink on-ear wireless headphones.

Great sound and comfort. Like them a lot.

I had a pair of the AE2W's last year, which are the over-ear variety, and I returned them. They were too "boomy" and fatiguing.

Dont think I posted this, but there was a sweet deal on the Sennheiser ON EAR Momentum. I believe it's because they recently came out with a new generation. Don't believe there's any difference in audio, and seems like few design tweaks (the new ones may be foldable though  )

I got them maybe 8 months ago or so for only $99 but a quick look saw lowest at B&H for $118. Never had on ear, but they actually are nice for combo music and conference calls at a coffee shop, not as comfy for really extended listening but I have my old senns on ear for that (595 or something like that. old already). What was at the time a $200 model I got for half price - would love to get the Momentum Over Ear's. Mmmm. But $350.

Here's one dealer thats way overpriced but a good pic and then Sennheiser's site for the new model at $229 direct.

I got a pair of the old model over ear Momentums when Sennheiser was revising their product line last year. I haven't listened to the new model but it supposedly has slightly larger ear cups. I thought the 2014 over ears sounded significantly better than the on ears from the same timeframe.

$350 is pretty steep though (it's over twice what I paid) and there's a lot of competition in the $300-$500 price range. The Momentums are low impedance which is a big deal for me because I'm not going to bring a DAC and amp on the subway. :nerd:

I got the on ears just to try. It was a lot less money and a sweet deal (prob got them round the same time you did?) when I wasn't really looking to buy, and needed some portability so curious about on ear as a compromise. I like them, don't love them but better than a lot of on ears IMO.

I'd think the overs sound better, and I'm getting past the useful life of my 595s over ears.
