The food service vendor for my company's several facilities in the area had a football trivia contest for Super Bowl week. Late last week I was in the cafeteria and just happened to notice the stack of entry sheets. The lady working there told me it was the last day to enter and to go ahead and fill one out. She told me I couldn't look up any answers, so I stood there for awhile thinking things through and then handed it in. I got a call yesterday telling me that I had won the contest! The guy said I got all the answers right. He said there were five people from all the locations who got every question right, and they drew my name from those five. I won five free combo lunch meals in the cafeteria. Woohoo!!

Without looking...my answers in BOLD...correct answers in Italics.

1. What team hired the NFL's first professional cheerleading squad, in 1972?

Dolphins (WRONG)...but the answer was hard to find. I think they are looking for the Cowboys here...

The Baltimore Colts (now the Indianapolis Colts) was the first NFL team to have an organized cheerleading squad.[8] It was the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders who gained the spotlight with their revealing outfits and sophisticated dance moves, which debuted in the 1972-1973 season, but were first seen widely in Super Bowl X (1976).

2. What pro football franchise did Tim Mara buy in 1925 for $500?

NYG

3. Who was involved as a player or coach in three Super Bowls with the Cowboys, two with the Eagles, and one with the Bears?

Ditka

4. Due to the war effort during the 1940's, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh found that they could not field a full team, so they merged for one season. What was the name of that team?

Steagles Don't ask me how I know this...probably from the Full Color thing on the AFL.

5. Which QB has made the most Super Bowl starts without a win?

c. Jim Kelly

6. Only one CB has ever been named Super Bowl MVP. Who is it?

a. Larry Brown ...this one's easy...Cowboys vs. Steelers XXX

7. Which coach has the most Super Bowl appearances?

c. Don Shula (can't forget about his time with the Colts...)

8. Who was the first QB in NFL history to pass for 400 TD's?

a. Dan Marino

9. Who was drafted with the 4th pick by the Steelers in the 1969 draft?

d. Joe Greene

10. Who won the 1996 NFL MVP award?

b. Barry Sanders WRONG

Brett Favre

11. Who holds the record for total rushing yards in a season?

b. Eric Dickerson

12. Who was the MVP of Super Bowl XXVII?

a. Troy Aikman

13. Which team did Joe Namath start his career with?

a. New Your Jets

14. Who did the Eagles trade for Ron Jaworski in 1977?

No idea...

Charlie Young he was a TE.

Man, I did ok. Where's my free lunch!! BTW...here's some more!

I got the other questions just fine, but this one has me stumped. After thinking about it for 10 minutes I gave up and opted to do some research. I still cannot find an answer. According to the question, the person played or coached for the Eagles in both of their Super Bowls. I cannot find a person who satisfies that. Somebody had guessed Ditka. It's not a bad guess because he played for the Eagles but that was in 1967 and 1968. He played in Super Bowls 5 and 6 for the Cowboys. He was a Cowboys assistant coach in Super Bowls 10, 12 and 13. Then, of course, he was the Bears head coach in Super Bowl 20.

Glad you brought this up. I actually misread the question when I filled out the sheet, and missed where it said TWO Super Bowl's with the Eagles. So I guessed Ditka, thinking that he may have been an assistant coach during the 1980 season.Apparently I got the answer "correct". But I actually think this was a bogus question.

Ditka was a Dallas assistant coach through the 1981 season and from there he was hired as the Chicago head coach for the 1982 season. He never coached with the Eagles. I have concluded that it must have been a bogus question. Maybe the quiz creator put that question in there to see what kind of oddball answers it would get.

How many people entered this contest? Had to be a lot for 5 people to get them all correct. I think all 5 should have got "free lunch", but we all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, right? LOL... j/k

I got #3 and #4 wrong.

to the thread starter-

Is it possible for you to find out the answer (or supposed answer) to question #3? If you know who compiled the questions maybe you could ask that person.

I'm sure there were a lot of entries. We've got at least 3-4 different locations in the area, and there must be at least 400-500 people in my building. Of course, they didn't all enter the contest. My guess is that some of the others looked up the answers, because when the lady first told me to fill it out she said I could take it with me and bring it back later. I told her I didn't want to do that because I'd be tempted to look up the answers.

I think I still have the guy's name and number from when he called me. I'll check and see Monday.
