IDP Dynasty Trade Question (1 Viewer)

Don't post here very often but I go to the site all the time. Good stuff here. Anyway, I was recently asked to make an offer that included Frye in a dynasty league with IDPs. start 2 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, TE, K, 2 DB, 2LB/DL and 2 Flex. Standard HP scoring, standard IDP

my team

QB: Eli, Plummer, Frye, Dilfer

RB: SA, Rudi, Benson

WR: Bruce, Mason, Buress, Stokeley, Jenkins

TE: Wiggins, A. Smith

DB: Winfield, Kaeversharn

LB: Washington (WAS), Brooking

we have a 7 round rookie/fa draft coming up and I have the 1.02 and he has 1.03 and 1.07. He has Urlacher and Derrick Johnson at LB, and Barber and Hall at DB. He also has DomD, Caddy, and Braylon Edwards at WR. Initially my thought was Urlacher and his second round for Frye, but he traded his second for his 1.07, but that was too much. So, question is, would Derrick Johnson + his 1.07 be enough for Frye in a 2 QB dynasty league?

(sorry if that took a while but I wanted to give as much info as poss.)

I am going to speak from his side.

My thoughts are that any 1st round pick is too much for Frye. He is the uncontested starter, but is unproven in an offense that appears to be pretty conservative. (In fact, if I were him I would ask for Frye + something for 1.07) At that draft spot, he is guaranteed getting a young RB, V. Young or Lienert. IMO, Frye's potential does not seem to match any of those players.

Also, I don't know the general practices and scoring in your league, but with the low numbers of IDPs that seem to required (6), but I would consider all but the most elite (clear top 5, maybe 10) defensive players as having virtuely no trade value.

Short answer.... no. In a 2 QB league, I think you want to hold Frye. Shannahan has a bad history with QB's. You have to KNOW he's chomping at the bit to get Cutler in there.

I'm not thrilled with Johnson, I don't see that as a big upgrade at LB, while Urlacher would be. I'be be tempted to trade Frye and Washington, for Urlacher and his 1.07 IF you think you can land Cutler with the 1.07.

I take it you will go RB at 1.02, and then Rudi or Benson could be trade bait for a top shelf WR.

Interesting thought, but I was actually leaning Leinart. I think he landed in a fantasy gold mine for QBs and starting two QBs I think makes them actually more valuable than RBs, but I could be wrong there (BTW, to add to scoring, it's .5 for completions and receptions, which should make QBs in high passing offenses even more valuable). I'm fairly certain that Bush is going #1 overall. D. Williams I love but seems like bad value at second overall. Plus, I think Lovie, if Tjones continues his bs, will not hesitate to make benson a starter and if that happens, which really seems only a matter of time, Benson should be a perennial 1000+ yard back.

If I did take Leinart I would think with him and Eli in the fold I would be set for starters at that position for some time.

Here's how I see the draft going, on overall value:

1.1 Bush, 1.2 Leinart, 1.3 (this will be interesting, the guy here has 2 solid RBs but not a sinlge solid starting QB (Penny, Boller, Lefty, and some crap QB), and this is the guy who wants Frye. I assume that if we make the trade he goes RB here and takes...) D. Williams, 1.4 Maroney, 1.5 Cutler, 1.6 Addai, 1.7 Young

after that it gets a little hazy as far how people value VD vs. White and the rest. Pretty shallow offensive draft with both elite WRs landing in less than perfect FF situations. Anyway, trading Frye for the 1.07 or the 1.07 + DJohnson would land me one of the big three, and of course Cutler would be ideal to pair with Plummer, and there is the chance that he might fall to 1.07 because people view Denver as a fantasy unfriendly place for QBs (though I think the addition of javon and possible emergence of Watts + the revolving door RB situation could possibly skew that).

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear people's opinions on D. Williams (clear #2 rookie RB in my book) vs. Leinart (or Cutler) at the 1.02. And whether possibly getting either Cutler, Young, or Addai at the 1.07 changes things.

Also, I was just checking out the top scorers from last year in this scoring system, and the top 11 are QBs (plummer actually outscored SA, so I'm def. leaning Leinart now. CP was tops with 477, SA finished with 369)
