IDP help needed... (1 Viewer)

We just had our draft yesterday and everyone in it is brand new to using IDP's, so there are a ton of good players still available on the WW. I went into the draft asssuming, incorrectly, that Yahoo considered Linebackers to be DB's and not DL's. So I ended up drafting 6 DL's and only two DB's.

I want to drop 2 DL's and pick up 2 DB's to even things out. We start 2 of each plus one flex.

My draft was:

DB:

E. Reed (BAL)

R. Harrison (NE)

DL:

R. Lewis (BAL)

Do.Edwards (SD)

P. Kerney (ATL)

B. Urlacher (CHI)

K. Wong (HOU)

Ch.Grant (NO)

Solo Tackle (0.5), Sack (3), Interception (2), Fumble Force (2), Fumble Recovery (2), Touchdown (6), Safety (2), Pass Defended (1), Block Kick (2)

Looking at last years stats and sorting them by best scores using our leagues scoring system this year, my DL's rank as follows:

Edwards, Grant, Kerney, Wong, Lewis, Urlacher.

And based on our scoring system and last years stats here is how a few of the available DB's rank (dont laugh too hard):

D. Robinson (HOU)

M. Trufant (SEA)

M. Williams (CIN)

D. Sharper (MIN)

S. Springs (WAS)

L. Sheppard (PHI)

E. Coleman (NYJ)

I am considering dropping Urlacher and Wong for Robinson and Williams...but being new to this, I am not sure if thats wise or not. Who would you suggest dropping and picking up. I could just drop one DL too and pick up one DB...but it looks like the DB's score a little better than the DL's in our league.

Also, being that this is new to everyone in our league. Some of the lesser known names (Wong, Grant, etc...) may be available late in the season if I decide to drop them. Grant was the last guy I took and the second to last player drafted overall.

Unless you're in a 6 team league or your offense is a pile of rat droppings, your team ought to contend on the basis of your defense alone. Reed will be more valuable in this scoring system, and Harrison/Edwards/Grant/Kerney/Lewis will hold their values nicely.I'm in complete agreement with your assessment of the waiver situation. Wong and Urlacher should be your cuts. Although Urlacher should do well in your system, he's still behind the others. The scoring system skews toward the big play rather than the solid tackling machine DB. I think Dunta Robinson still sees some big plays and he should out-tackle the other CB on your list because of his ability to play the run. Of the safeties, Williams and Coleman are close, but I think Williams has the better chance to get big tackle and big play numbers.

I'd go Robinson and Williams myself, but I'd not argue if you replaced Robinson with Coleman.

You're DL is fantastic!Definitely do NOT cut Grant. He should be a 12 sack guy and that equates to 72 solos in your scoring. In fact, I'd find it hard not to start he and Kerney every week.Personally, I'd only drop one DL and add one DB (Madieu or Coleman - my preferences). Actually, try and do a 2for1 trade giving up 2 DLs or something to someone who's desparate. Throwing names like Ray Lewis, Urlacher & Donnie Edwards at someone might get you some real value. Seems like the tackle-driven reputations of the stud LBs will give some of those guys inflated value.Just a thought....

Just eyeballing your scoring system, your flex should always be your DL. So your should have no more than 3 DBs, maybe only 2.

Robinson - Rookie corner beneficiery so he should slip some and CBs suck period.

Williams is the guy I'd look for. Wong is the guy I'd cut. You could always use Urlacher or Ray Lewis name recognition for trade value.

Well, things have changed slightly. I waited a little too long to make a change. And someone else scooped up Williams, Trufant and Robinson. Now I need to work out a trade somehow...or I could still grab Coleman. Especially if I should always use a DL as my flex...I wont have to worry about the backup except for injuries or for byes.Sharper, Springs, Sheppard and Coleman are still there. Along with K.Lucas, R.McQuarters, J.Butler, K.Herndon, C.Gamble, D.Townsend, and S.Brown. Thats all that are available in the top 25 according to last years stats and our scoring sytem. Thanks for the advice guys...I just waited too long to act on any of it.
