IDP league recruiting advice? Other Forums? (1 Viewer)

I think the "Looking for Leagues" forum here at FBG is a great place to fill the last few spots of a league you are trying to fill. But are there other places to target IDP players specifically?

The reason I ask is I've been trying to get an auction league at phenoms started for a couple of weeks now but having trouble getting the last few people to fill the league. I realize IDP is a small subset of FF, and auction is a smaller fraction of that, and slow auction-n-go format a smaller section than that. Just wondering if anyone has other IDP websites out there to try and find a few more people to fill this thing and get this slow auction started.

Having the same problem, man. Inviting facebook friends has actually been my best bet. It seems like people are just way more up for doing it if they know you. Only filled 2 of 16 spots from the FBG forum.

I avoid leagues without IDPs. I prefer auctions. I'm interested in openings. I started struggling to fill IDP leagues over a decade ago. It's a hassle. 4 years ago I started trolling ESPN and Yahoo $ leagues specifically seeking big IDP redrafts with small stakes (2qb leagues and auctions preferred but not mandatory). It wasn't easy, but they're out there. ESPN and Yahoo have sooo many more leagues than Phenoms that your chances of finding one of these great setups is better.

Yeah, I'll have to give those a try. Thanks for the feedback. Is the level of competition at ESPN/Yahoo lower than Phenoms or about the same in your experience?

It's lower in general. I'm guilty of specifically seeking leagues with uneducated owners putting up a few bucks. A few years ago I put significant effort into exactly that. I won over 5 grand that year. Several of those leagues are still going, but the owners are educated now. Lately it seems when IDPs and auctions get added to leagues, they're filled with 80-100% very astute players. So if that's what you're seeking, you'll find it. If you want to fleece the rubes, you probably need to focus on non-IDP mega-flex leagues.

The hunt for $ IDP auctions can be incredibly time consuming. The related forums at those sites are worth trolling. Many times they pop up in the public leagues listings with one opening that fills fast. I've been shut out of a half dozen this year when I was only joining to quickly interview the commish to see if I liked the league. No luck. Spot filled instantly.

You could create a league at one those sites set up to your preference. Use LeagueSafe for the money. Pimp it publicly and it will fill. You could drag your Phenoms mates over there, or possibly drag a few ESPNers to Phenoms. I just play in too many leagues to commish more than one.

Haha. I don't think Jene will mind me stretching the rules a little here to try and recruit a couple board members to the chaos I commish. The league is deep and challenging. It has a $40 entry fee, uses LeagueSafe, pays (winner, runnerup, pts leader) 100% less MFL fee. It's a slow redraft at MFL starting between the 23rd and 26th of August. Past members are a who's who of online IDP experts. Jene was in last year and will be joining us again this year. It starts 2qbs, 2tes, some flex options for wrs and rbs, and a full 11idp d.

I love this league. It's been around 12 years with a couple vacation years. It is always hard to fill, but great once rolling. Here's last year's draft. You should be able to look around there for rules and whatnot. I'll be trying to replace Bloom and Davenport with some industry IDP writer-types, but I prefer a pros vs joes league, so maybe three or four "joes" spots are available here. PM me for a spot or with any questions.
