IDP players (1 Viewer)

Gentlemen! First time this year we will use IDP players in a 12 team, no PPR, redraft league. I have looked at websites and see that IDP players are set up with Linebackers, DL, and then DB for position players.

We have the basic scoring format of 1 point for tackles, 2 for turnovers and sacks. I am inquiring as to what direction you would go in drafting who and why.

I don't know when to draft a player and is it smarter to go with a tackle machine i.e. (Willis) or is sack specialist DE i.e. (Ware) the smarter choice.

I have never played in a league with a IDP option so I am looking for input as I am trying to repeat as champion. Any input would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks FBG!

;) to the world of IDP. :excited: There are lots of opinions on how to approach a draft with IDPs. There are some good threads in the pinned FAQ above this Forum and Bob Magaw and I have published an article with some general thoughts. The updated 2009 version of that article in subscriber only, but the 2008 original should be available to everyone.

A scoring system with a 2:1 sack-to-tackle ratio is considered tackle-heavy and your draft strategy should reflect that. Rush OLB are usually more inconsistent than most non-rush LB, though James Harrison and Ware have challenged that in recent seasons. Number of roster spots also affects when and how to draft your IDPs.

We prefer to keep the main forum open to general discussions on strategy and news and notes on players, but please feel free to ask any team-specific questions in our IDP Assistant Coach forum, also found above.

I don't know if I'm pimping some kind of competition --- that'd be kind of rude, so feel free to delete the link if that's the case, but you can go here to input your league scoring and see how the players sort out:

http://www.fftoday.com/myfftoday/index.php

Also, you can most likely sort the players by points scored in whatever league site you use.

How many players at each position do you use?

One thing to bear in mind is that unless you use a lot of IDP players, the IDP pool is usually pretty deep, so I wouldn't reach for anybody too high in the draft.

Of course, your particular league rules might create all kinds of unusual scarcity issues for all I know.

ps

Do you use return yards?

FYI -- Josh Wilson scored very highly compared to a lot of offensive players last year simply due to his return yardage points, so that's something to keep an eye on.

The full time IDP player/returner is highly coveted.

At this point we are just using one IDP player for the week. It will not matter whether a DE, DB, or LB just what is the best value for each team during a week. 12 team/15 rds. so I figure I wouldn't reach for someone rather wait until round 14-15. With the tackel to sack ratio 2:1, I agree it may be better to get a OLB or a monster DE like Ware. Knowing my league and the some of the idiots, I can see them starting to take IDP's in the 6th-7th round! We'll see.

Thank you for your feedback
