IDP Rookie Rankings (1 Viewer)

Nice effort! I can see a lot will weigh on where they land, but I like seeing all the names I have been following closely at the top, but some names have me wondering if I missed something or did you?

#8 Barwin: too tall & skinny for my preference for a OLB. Add some beef and move him to DE and I like him a little more, but I see him as a project (closer to #15)

#13 & #14: Johnson & Jackson are high caliber DE and I see them being Top 10 without issue (problem is who do they pass?)

#31 Raji? I understand DT is not a high profile IDP slot, but he could be a force.

Torn on the first 2, and certainly Sat/Sun will clear some of it up.Raji is too low. He's the #1 DT so he should probably be in the 15-20 range.Thanks. :fishing:

Nice to see IDP finally getting some love. Couple questions:

1) Cushing at #2? Can you tell me why you like him so much, and why you think he's going to be a better fantasy IDP than Maualuga? Maualuga looks like a tackling machine to me, and Cushing doesn't seem like he has the capability to make enough big plays that would allow him to have a better season than Maualuga.

2) Larry English at #6. I know almost nothing about Larry English, so could you tell me a bit about him and why you like him to be a better fantasy player than Orakpo, Brown, and Maybin?

3) Is there a reason why you have CB's ranked higher overall than safeties in this draft? Seeing Alphonso Smith ahead of Louis Delmas, and Patrick Chung and seeing Darius Butler ahead of William Moore and Chip Vaughn surprises me.

"Highly malleable" is a great term for a pre-draft IDP rookie ranking. I'm stealing that one somewhere down the line.

It does not make sense to me that all three USC linebackers are ranked high, but we don't hear much about how dominant the USC linebackers were during the season. It just seems these guys are the beneficiary of draft hype.

LBs are way high on IDP lists. M'aga is a hitter but may not have the range of Cushing. Both are very, very good but it really depends on where they land. I like both and could call them 2A and 2B.

I view him more like a LB than a DE, so that's an influence there. Really depends on where he lands and if he stands up.

Delmas is rising fast (McShay pimping him hard). Systems these guys fall into will determine much here but I'll be the first to admit I'm not up on the S/CB as much as the rest - except I think that the VT guy (Macho Harris) is underrated.

Purely again because this draft lacks IDP studs. It's a thinner draft than many will admit.

This does appear to be a thin draft in many respects, but I'm gonna have to disagree on this one... Maualuga and Cushing both entered the season as consensus 1st round draft picks and in virtually everyone's top 20 draft prospects. Maualuga, in particular, had the huge game in the Rose Bowl vs Illinois a year ago (Rose Bowl MVP) and it was a minor surprise he didn't enter the draft last year.Certainly Matthews, Jr. came out of nowhere seeing that he was a walk-on and didn't start until his senior season. He comes closest to fitting your critique...But draft hype and rankings aside, don't forget the Trojans defense was dominant this past season. I forget the exact stats but they held 7 or 8 opponents to a TD or less (shutting out quite a few). Though the offense gets most of the press, the USC defense, particularly their LB corps was their strength this past season.

 nice to see someone else saw what I saw last year!!! USC D was sick last year minus the one game they lost and Maualuga is a beast (can you say a young Seau). If Maualuga lands on the lions or the rams he will be a lock for 130+ Tackles (3 down back monster) and this years best IDP rookie!!!!! hell if he goes to san diego he will get 100+.

What about the Bungles?

Jason Wood:

ILB Rey Maualuga, CIN 20
:coffee:
Just posted about this in another thread... his rankings were wayyyy off base (and unfortunately undermine the others). Jene mentioned this was his first time doing IDP rankings. Obviously, doesn't appear to be his strength. I'm sure he's very knowledgeable in other areas though. :)

Dom Capers does have his NT penetrate so he should get some tackles. Maybe #20. 15 seems a little high.

Well I think this hirts his numbers alot this year!!!! even if he wins MLB over jones I am not sure he will be a 3 downer this year. if he takes the middle as a 3 downer he will still get around 130 tackles, if he takes middle as a 2 down back he will be around 90-100

You can use the AAV column (adjusted average - throw out the top and bottom rankings, then average the rest).
