Now I am really confused about the ILB situation in San Diego!

Kevin Burnett you mentioned, but everything else points to Tim Dobbins. I think I'll stay away from both!

But, really intriguing news on Aaron Curry being WLB. Definitely upgrade there.

Is Clint Ingram even too much of a sleeper of the "Roundtable"?

Burnett articleBurnett is most definitely the starter at this point, and he is the guy you need to be targeting for the WILB situation in SD.

Thanks RavenCRH!I don't know why other places keep showing Dobbins in that spot.

Appreciate the link!

No problem, glad I could help.

Burnett has been running with the first team for over a week now. To me, it's even more significant than it sounds because the coaching staff has had years to evaluate Dobbins. I think the elevation of Burnett after a full set of OTAs and two weeks of camp speaks volumes about where the coaches are at the WILB position. Burnett's history of poor durability has me leery of pushing him as a clear LB2/3, but I think that's where a healthy Burnett finishes. We'd love to talk all night about every team and each position but we've decided to cut ourselves short at about 30 minutes of blathering. :( With regard to Ingram, I'm generally not excited about guys that don't play on passing downs. The snaps Ingram will get in the 3-4 (LOLB) won't be helpful either. And I don't think he's a particularly dynamic OLB in the mold of a Bulluck, Boley, Briggs, etc. I'd like to see him do well because I've never thought Daryl Smith to be anything special, either, but he's outside of the LB4/5 with upside tier for me.

With Larry Foote apparently assuming a 3 down role MLB role in a 4-3 defense I expected more mention to be made of him than being "no longer a marginal player".

Seems like a very high upside (higher than Burnett) type of position he is in despite his lack of dynamic athleticism.

You may be right here. I've got a bias on this one that I've had trouble shaking. I'm not a huge fan of Fisher/Schwartz MLBs unless they have elite talent, especially when they're surrounded by rangy OLBs with better big play ability. I think Foote has looked pretty good in the first two preseason games, but I'm having a hard time convincing myself that he's more than a LB3 guy.Still, "No longer a marginal player" should have been followed by "now has starting upside" however. Didn't intend to short-shrift him; he's clearly in the LB3 tier for me (LB42 today). Thanks for letting me clarify.

Thanks for the additional notes. It is really difficult to find consistent news on every team that really pans out and can be applied to the fantasy world, I truly appreciate your insights and the time you spend on all these teams!

Is Burnett a better IDP option than Merriman is for SD?

Cooper is the best option for them?

I never get to see the Chargers play.

That's somewhat scoring system dependent.Merriman should be solid in a big play scoring league, but I'd be reluctant to project him over 10 sacks and put him into the Harrison/Ware tier of rush OLBs yet. I'd tentatively leave him in the Woodley range or slightly below until he proves his knee is healthy enough to explode off the line and close in the pocket. It's hard not to project Cooper to have the best ILB value, primarily because Burnett has had durability issues and has rarely had a chance to prove himself in run support. It won't be surprising to me, however, if Burnett ends up the better option here if he's healthy. For now, however, the limb gets really thin with Burnett if you project him to LB2 numbers or better.

I would plan to draft Burnett as LB4-5 at this point, I highly doubt anyone else in my league would know of him , even though some are from Cali and Arz. The east coast guys wont know of him. Sounds like I might be able to get a nice LB very late!!! Me likey!

thanks for all the info

:thumbdown:There's almost no downside to taking Burnett outside the top 40-50 LBs as your LB5. He's an easy cut if he's pulled from the starting base defense and he's a LB4/5 at worst as an every-down player.

Larry Foote has been the starter at ILB for the Steelers every season since 2004. His best season was when he got 79 solos, 4.5 sacks, and 8 passes defensed.....oh wait, my fault. That was his last 2 seasons COMBINED. my bad.

but you know he was the 4th LB for the Steelers, he had to fight tackles away from the other 3. In Detriot, he'll be on the field a lot, and isnt he the MLB in a 4-3 defense? I would expect him to match last 2 seasons numbers this year. If he holds up, he's gonna get beat on weekly.

Steelcityman, don't try and convince him. If he doesn't see what a 3-down MLB in a 4-3 on a poor team can be, let him be.

That's just a bad argument.3-4 defense, surrounded by studs, is a little bit different than 4-3 MLB on a bad team.
