IDP Survivor Tackle Heavy Thread (1 Viewer)

Figured I would open this thread so we can Talk trash and let the rest of the IDP world in on our League!! First I would like to ask who in Tackle Heavy are Staffers?
Not me, for sure. But I'd say :Anyone with a footballguys.com e-mail address. :-)Anthony BorbelyLarry Thomas

So far here is the results of the first round so far!! As expected for the most part and I am coming up from the 11 spot, I am kinda broke on my pick unless 10 takes 1 of my three choices!!

1.01 simdog..........Foster, Arian HOU RB

1.02 A. Borbely......Peterson, Adrian MIN RB

1.03 blend...........Rice, Ray BAL RB

1.04 ggiants81.......Charles, Jamaal KCC RB

1.05 Larry Thomas....Johnson, Andre HOU WR

1.06 Whitney26.......Johnson, Calvin DET WR

1.07 bmj87...........Johnson, Chris TEN RB

1.08 amit-Nfl........Brady, Tom NEP QB

1.09 gandalas........McCoy, LeSean PHI RB

1.10 G. Menace.......White, Roddy ATL WR

1.11 therokie0070....Rodgers, Aaron GBP QB Just cant pass on the #1 QB at 11 spot!! 6 points a TD he should out score all WR and RB by a large margin!!

1.12 Ysatnaf_Gnik....Nicks, Hakeem NYG WR

So far I think best value pick goes to Gandalas but I really think overall other than Brady this draft has gone as I expected!! I would have taken McCoy over Chris Johnson and Brady but at 6 points a passing TD I think Brady is a Sexy pick!! A. Rodgers was a tough pick for me because I planned to go QBBC and stack up on RB and WR but my top RB and WR options were taken so I changed my strategy!! Dont worry got some sneaky picks to come!!

ROUND 2

2.01 Ysatnaf_Gnik....Vick, Michael PHI QB

2.02 therokie0070....Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB This was a hard pick for me but if he is 100% healthy and an improved Jags D I cant pass on him in PPR, I have another reason for the pick but don't want to give up my strategy :)

2.03 G. Menace.......McFadden, Darren OAK RB

2.04 gandalas........Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR I see a nice bounce-back year for Fitz...100+ catches is nearly a given.

2.05 amit-nfl........Mendenhall, Rashard PIT RB

2.06 bmj87...........Austin, Miles DAL WR

2.07 Whitney26.......Wallace, Mike PIT WR

2.08 Larry Thomas....Brees, Drew NOS QB

2.09 ggiants81.......Rivers, Philip SDC QB Rivers with 6p/TD.. Easy call.

2.10 blend...........Jennings, Greg GBP WR

2.11 A. Borbely......Wayne, Reggie IND WR

2.12 Simdog..........Gore, Frank SFO RB Had some hesitation here, filling my rb position so quickly and neglecting qbs and wr, but the prospect of 3 top 10 ppr backs was too hard to resist

I wanted to go WR bad but I think there will be more value at WR in the 3rd than RB so I will roll the dice and pray for a healthy MJD!! I think Vick is a bad pick at 2.1 because his value is somewhat diminished by the 6 point Passing TD, I just dont see Vick with more total TD and yards than Brees, Rivers,Rogers, Brady and Manning!!

Thank you, sir. :) I followed that up with Larry Fitzgerald in the 2nd as well, so I definitely have 2 reception-machines for my first 2 picks.QB is definitely a high-scoring position in this league, but I just could not bring myself to get one with one of my first 2 picks. Maybe I will start looking in the next couple of rounds depending on who goes between now and then. :)

I actually really contemplated taking Vick at 1.03. But, just couldn't pull the trigger. And if CJ2k had been in camp, he probably would have been my pick, but with the holdout and the shortened season, you can't really afford to miss any games. I think he is actually a pretty risky pick. IMO, his holdout is looking to be a long one.

It's definitely a risky pick, that's for sure. I literally had him 7th on my board, and my top 6 overall players were taken ahead of me. Sucks, but I'm just crossing my fingers that CJ is there for week 1

ROUND 2

2.01 Ysatnaf_Gnik....Vick, Michael PHI QB

I think Vick is a bad pick at 2.1 because his value is somewhat diminished by the 6 point Passing TD, I just dont see Vick with more total TD and yards than Brees, Rivers, Manning!!
You mean, like the 30 TDs (21 Passing and 9 Rushing)he had last yr in just 12 games? Not sure if you realize that QBs can also score rushing TDs in this league at 6 pts/TD......

All of these guys had these totals in 16 games

Manning had 33 Passing

Brady had 37 (36 Passing and 1 rushing)

Brees had 33 passing

All I am saying is if the league was 4 points for passing TD and 6 for rushing Vick is the undisputed #1 QB but his value is diminished somewhat with the 6 point passing TD!!I think in this scoring set up he is the #5 QB behind Brees, Rivers, Rodgers were as before I had him #1.

He might as well be....none of us have a crystal ball....but he was the TOP QB last yr under this scoring rules.

ROUND 3

3.01 simdog.........Forte, Matt CHI RB

3.02 A. Borbely.....Manning, Peyton IND QB OK I now see the Staffer Strategy!! But will it continue and at what cost!!

3.03 blend .........Jackson, Vincent SDC WR

3.04 ggiants81......Jackson, Steven STL RB

3.05 Larry Thomas...Ingram, Mark NOS RB I think the Staffer Strategy is working better for Larry than Athony!!

3.06 Whitney26......Marshall, Brandon MIA WR

3.07 bmj87..........Romo, Tony DAL QB

3.08 amit-nfl.......Bryant, Dez DAL WR

3.09 gandalas.......Hillis, Peyton CLE RB

3.10 G,Menace.......Welker, Wes NEP WR

3.11 therokie0070...Best, Jahvid DET RB I will follow the Staffers strategy as much as possible!!!

3.12 Ysatnaf_Gnik...Bradshaw, Ahmad NYG RB

season ending injury to Leshoure makes Best the go to guy in Det, Hope he can stay healthy and produce a couple Philly games this year!!!

In this league's scoring system, Vick averaged 5 points per game more than any other player last year. The thing you may be overlooking are his rushing TDs. Vick had 9 in 12 games, far more than any other QB. His total TDs prorated would have been 40. He averaged more total TDs per game than any other player. I fail to see how he loses value.

Gandalas Pick Review and Comments:

http://football14.myfantasyleague.com/2011/options?L=40724&O=07&F=0005

QB1 - Eli Manning

QB2 - Joe Flacco

QB3 - Matt Cassell

RB1 - LeSean McCoy

RB2 - Peyton Hillis

RB3 - Knowshon Moreno

RB4 - Monterio Hardesty

RB5 - Ronnie Brown

WR1 - Larry Fitzgerald

WR2 - Steve Johnson

WR3 - Anquan Boldin

WR4 - Johnny Knox

WR5 - Danario Alexander

TE1 - Rob Gronkowski

TE2 - Dustin Keller

PK1 -

DT1 -

DE1 - Terrell Suggs

DE2 - Julius Peppers

DE3 - Darnell Dockett

LB1 - Rolando McClain

LB2 - Karlos Dansby

LB3 - Cameron Wake

LB4 - James Anderson

CB1 - DeAngelo Hall

CB2 - Greg Toler

S1 - Michael Griffin

S2 - Kerry Rhodes

S3 - Charles Godfrey

1.9 - LeSean McCoy

In PPR scoring, McCoy is easily a top-5 RB to me, and getting him at the 9th pick was a coup for me.

2.4 - Larry Fitzgerald

As I posted, I see a great bounce-back year for Fitzgerald. 100 catches is almost a certainty.

3.9 - Peyton Hillis

Another top-10 PPR back if he can maintain his production level from last season. If he even gets only 75% of his production, this will be a great pick for me.

4.4 - Steve Johnson

Another WR whom I keep hearing great things about this offseason.

5.9 - Anquan Boldin

In PPR, getting a solid trio at WR was key to me. With Boldin as my WR3, I think I have done this.

6.4 - Knowshon Moreno

John Fox lead back, who is yet another solid pass-catching RB.

7.9 - Terrell Suggs.

Getting a top-5 DE, who is pretty much guarenteed to maintain his spot in a tackle-heavy league.

8.4 - Eli Manning.

I was one of the last to get my QB1, and I feel that Eli can hang with most of the big boys. Only -1 for INTS, which helps his case. With the recent losses on defense, he will have to be throwing a lot.

9-9 - Julius Peppers.

My 2nd DEF player, and another top-6 DE, making this position a HUGE strength for my team.

10-4 - Joe Flacco.

With me waiting on QB so long, I wanted to get 3 good ones. This is my 2nd.

11-9 - Rolando McClain.

Waiting on LB could hurt me, although I look at McClain's 2nd half of the season and think he can do just fine.

12-4 - Karlos Dansby.

Taking MLB with my 2nd pick in a row.

13-9 - Rob Gronkowski.

In this best-ball format, Gronk will have some nice weeks as a red-zone master.

14-4 - Michael Griffin.

Solid Safety, who should have plenty more Tackle opportunities with Tulloch gone.

15-9 - Kerry Rhodes.

Another great safety, with not much competition for tackles in front of him.

16-4 - Johnny Knox.

The best WR on the bears last season. Should be fine as my WR4.

17-9 - Matt Cassel.

Great scoring last season - a bargain in the 17th round.

18-4 - Dustin Keller.

I look for him to play more like the first 4 weeks last season.

19-9 - Monterio Hardesty.

Hillis handcuff, who should be more involved this season.

20-4 - Darnell Dockett.

Good tackle numbers from the DE spot, making my DE position even more dominant.

21-9 - DeAngelo Hall.

A top CB last season. Fairly consistent numbers, with a few HUGE games here and there.

22-4 - Greg Toler.

Great tackle numbers from the CB spot last season. Will have to see if he can maintain that this year.

23-9 - Cameron Wake.

High sack numbers, not bad as my LB3.

24-4 - James Anderson.

Could not pass up the tackle machine from last year this late. If Beason misses time, he will have some opportunities.

25-9 - Danario Alexander.

In this best ball format, I am hoping for a big game or 2 from him. Anything more than that is just extra.

26-4 Ronnie Brown.

I felt he was a good value, and handcuffing my top back is never a bad idea.

27-9 Charles Godfrey.

My 3rd safety, as I did not notice that my first 2 had the same bye week. A player in his own right, and should only get better.

Well I will say this was one of the toughest drafts I have done in 12 years!! I figured people would go heavy on WR and then slow down later in the draft, well people kept taking WR/RB tell the last damn round!! If Best and Jones Drew perform up to my expectations and 2-3 of my 9 trash WR can produce ever week my sick defense should make up for my poor WR corp!! I feel my Defense based on a tackle heavy league is about as good as it gets, I did go risky on LB reference possible injury problems but if Ryans, Beason and Deqwell stay healthy I think I will hit a home run. Bold are the guys I think will produce as most weeks but in this format all players are starters so really doesnt matter!!

Orton, Kyle DEN QB 6

Rodgers, Aaron GBP QB 8.....I really think Rodgers is the only QB worth taking in the late first round!!

Best, Jahvid DET RB 9.....Best will make or break my team and I hope the gamble pays off!!

Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB 9.....Appears healthy with no one to steal carries could finish top 5!!

Thomas, Daniel MIA RB 5

Vereen, Shane NEP RB 7

Benn, Arrelious TBB WR 8

Berrian, Bernard MIN WR 9

Bess, Davone MIA WR 5.....Bush might hurt him but he is still the poor mans Wes Welker in PPR!!

Bowe, Dwayne KCC WR 6.....Last guy I wanted as #1 and he was the only #1 talent left when drafted!!

Crabtree, Michael SFO WR 7

Driver, Donald GBP WR 8

Robiskie, Brian CLE WR 5

Shipley, Jordan CIN WR 7

Washington, Nate TEN WR 6

Davis, Vernon SFO TE 7.....All the talent in the world and I hope a health Gore will allow him to shine!!

Miller, Zach SEA TE 6

Crosby, Mason GBP PK 8

Gostkowski, Stephen NEP PK 7

McCoy, Gerald TBB DT 8

Ngata, Haloti BAL DT 5.....Safest option behind the beast in Det!!!

Campbell, Calais ARI DE 6.....One of the most underrated DE in Fantasy and is Gold in Tackle heavy

Clayborn, Adrian TBB DE 8

Sheard, Jabaal CLE DE 5

Smith, Justin SFO DE 7.....has had averaged 50 solo and 7 sacks for 9 years!!!

Beason, Jon CAR LB 9.....Please fantasy gods let him play in the first 8 games!!!!

Jackson, D'Qwell CLE LB 5.....Has looked good and could easily walk into top 10!!

Laurinaitis, James STL LB 5.....100 solo top 5!!!

Matthews, Casey PHI LB 7

Ryans, DeMeco HOU LB 11.....will play P. Willis role in new D and could put up similar numbers!!

Smith, Daryl JAC LB 9

Spikes, Takeo SDC LB 6

Cox, Derek JAC CB 9

Grimes, Brent ATL CB 8.....Top 5 and looked the part in Preseason!!

McFadden, Bryant PIT CB 11.....Reliable and I think I won with Peterson now that Toler is on IR

Peterson, Patrick ARI CB 6

Branch, Tyvon OAK S 8.....Safest top 3 with Huff back and Mitchell on crutches

Coleman, Kurt PHI S 7

Landry, Dawan JAC S 9

Wilson, George BUF S 7.....Can you say 130+ tackles.....No reason it cant happen!!!

This is my team. 6 yrs ago I changed my drafting strategy for all-play leagues and have somewhat ignored bye weeks in order to field the best possible lineup on a week to week basis. It has worked out great....most of us still worry about picking the players with bye weeks after the 8th week and end up leaving potentially better weekly points of the table in favor of stability. A quick look over the last few yrs of IDP Survival and you will see that stability has never won this league. I much rather have one of the highest scoring teams 4 out of the 8 weeks and get "0" points in a big bye week than be the 4th or 5th best scoring team every week, consistently.....The first option will always get you to the next round....

It has worked out great....most of us still worry about picking the players with bye weeks after the 8th week and end up leaving potentially better weekly points of the table in favor of stability. A quick look over the last few yrs of IDP Survival and you will see that stability has never won this league. I much rather have one of the highest scoring teams 4 out of the 8 weeks and get "0" points in a big bye week than be the 4th or 5th best scoring team every week, consistently.....The first option will always get you to the next round....2.01 Vick, Michael PHI QB27.12 Hasselbeck, Matt TEN QB 3.12 Bradshaw, Ahmad NYG RB6.01 Blount, LeGarrette TBB RB8.01 Greene, Shonn NYJ RB15.12 Thomas, Pierre NOS RB28.01 Scott, Bernard CIN RB34.01 Snelling, Jason ATL RB 1.12 Nicks, Hakeem NYG WR11.12 Moore, Lance NOS WR12.01 Evans, Lee BAL WR13.12 Garcon, Pierre IND WR16.01 Edwards, Braylon SFO WR19.12 Williams, Mike SEA WR25.12 Walter, Kevin HOU WR 17.12 Gonzalez, Tony ATL TE23.12 Miller, Heath PIT TE 33.12 Janikowski, Sebastian OAK PK37.12 Tynes, Lawrence NYG PK 26.01 Kelly, Tommy OAK DT38.01 Gregg, Kelly KCC DT 5.12 Tuck, Justin NYG DE20.01 Clemons, Chris SEA DE30.01 Edwards, Dwan BUF DE35.12 Jordan, Cameron NOS DE 4.01 Willis, Patrick SFO LB7.12 Greenway, Chad MIN LB9.12 Lofton, Curtis ATL LB10.01 Barnett, Nick BUF LB22.01 Hawk, A.J. You my friend absolutely drove me mad!!! I swear to God you would draft my top two Predrafts at the turn every damn round!!! It was the sickest thing I have ever seen in 15 years of fantasy Drafts!!! Well played and I hope to see you in the next round and as far apart as possible (1 and 12) in the draft!!!

Everything pretty much went according to plan.

- If I grabbed a stud QB, I only wanted to roster 2.

- Carry 1 PK

- Lock in a top-4 DE

- Grab DBs with guaranteed playing time, this killed me late last season

- After my "starters" at WR and LB, load up on as many swing for the fences players as possible

Also lucked out as far as the preseason injury/cut list is concerned...

Players that I'm higher on than most are bolded

Zac Diles cut...ouch
Also lost Garrett Hartley for most if not all of the contest.
And Peyton Manning.

This one is going down to the wire.

I am at the top but will need a prayer to finish in the top 2!! No starting QB thanks to bye and no orton and I was banking on Best so I need Thomas to go off and my trash WRs to go off!! D is solid but my offense might be too week to hold up without A. Rodgers and Best!!!

You don't have to finish in the top 2. The top 3 advance.
