Just a heads up so I don't end up pissing everyone off at some point. I work Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat, start at 8am PST and get off whenever, usually around 4-5 PM but not always, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. I'll do some pre-drafting when we get through a few rounds... Sorry but I'm not going to predraft round 1 and 2 when i'm sitting in the 12 hole.

For some reason, I didn't think this started until today at 9am. Let me settle in here at work and I should pick within an hour or so.

I'm already mad at you. :lmao:

Fro was out of town on business through this past weekend. He's assured me that he'll be back in time for the draft.

Yeah, Jackson falling that far was a surprise. I was also quite happy with Marshawn Lynch at 9. I expect him to catch a lot more passes this season.

Jene, with your pick of Witten... I had a couple questions.

1- you are a pretty strict draft dominator type of guy?

2- who were your cutoffs at WR before changing to TE?

3- did you consider the upcoming "turn" as part of the equation to go TE?

I use the draft dominator, but not exclusively, as I use a pretty fluid draft strategy based on tiering as most of you know. I'm happy to put all my cards on the table after a few rounds. Ordinarily, I'd have no problem doing it immediately, but answering some of these questions now will affect this draft and tomorrow night's FBG Survivor draft -- both of which I really want to do well in  . Also, the answers could well change after ChaChi picks.

I almost didnt ask the turn question because of the implications.

For those of your following along at home...

The first four rounds find me with: Tom Brady, Ryan Grant, Jamal Lewis and Jonathan Stewart.

If you would of told me before the draft that those would be my first four picks I would of predicted I wouldn't be around for the 5th because I would of likely killed myself.

I see a lot of owners building themselves up with Week 9 and Week 10 players and I have to admit that played in my drafting of Stewart some. Always best to keep your options open right? We'll have to see what round 6 has in store for your boy.

Added two old WRs, bringing me to Lynch, Bush, Holt, and Burress. No bye week conflicts. I'm happy still. Three times already I've seen tiers that could have dried up before my pick but didn't, and that always makes me feel good. I haven't had to settle for contingency plans yet. I know I will at some point as that always happens in any draft, but to get through 4 rounds and fill the heart of my team feels pretty good.

I can see that my WR strategy might not be the best, and I've had good luck in the past by waiting a bit longer for WRs in survivors, but I felt that the tier dropoff about one WR past Burress was a major one. We'll see how it pans out - it should give me some freedom in the 6-8 range to hit best player available without needing to fill WRs so badly as I have tended to do in survivors.

I'm always eager to see how Fro picks - I don't think I've ever seen a draft of his where I thought he didn't do well. I'm glad we're not near each other in the draft order.

Tick said:
Man, I'm dumb - I never considered that we toss the offensive players at rounds 9 and 10.

Ugh. Can I start over?
huh?
Are you talking abou the bye issue? It kind of ruins the whole Survivor format (being only 8 weeks), but thats how it goes.
I think Tick may have realized this already -- he seems to have deleted that first post -- but we're completely redrafting in Week 9. That second league will be IDP only. Unless I'm missing something.

Yeah, I realized I'm not very bright. Players who have byes in weeks 9 and 10 are worth 1/8 more when compared to players who have earlier byes.

First rule in any draft: know your league's rules. Ugh.

Ah well, I really do like the players I have. I'm stuck drafting depth faster than others who were more aware, but hopefully it'll work out for the best.

I've seen you draft before so I know this isn't true. Stop trying to lull us into a false sense of security. It won't work. :blackdot:

Here's where I can say the wheels fell off if my team doesn't survive: Antonio Gates in round 5.

If he's Antonio Gates, I'm thrilled. If he's 75% of Antonio Gates and misses a couple of games or halves of games, it's awfully early to pick a guy who doesn't help me much. I'll probably have to jump on a 2nd TE before I would have if I had gotten someone in better health, but I don't mind taking this chance - we don't have to decide when to start a guy, so I can just take what Gates gives me without agonizing over the percentage of playing time he'll get.

I added Harris in the 6th. I didn't have a driving need to get an LB there, but I felt he was the best player available.

I'm a little concerned about the next phase of this draft - my goal was to get into a situation where I wasn't forced into taking specific positions, but I still need depth everywhere and might have to chase runs if things don't go quite right. Dealing with the byes at RB and especially WR plus needing to pick a 2nd TE a little earlier than most leaves me a bit light on BPA picks in the meaty part of the draft here. I have some suspicions about where it could hurt my team, but we'll see how things fall.

Any chance of us getting everyone on for a big weekend day to knock out some picks?

Let me throw one out there...

How is this Sunday July 27th at 1pm EST for people? :kicksrock:

I'll be minimally available between 9am and 10pm ET -- working. Will be trying to check in every hour or so all weekend, but no guarantees unfortunately. Will try to predraft as often as possible, depending on how far along we get.

Thats my birthday. Planning on drinking heavily that day. won't stop me from picking though. may even give you guyd a chance to catch up.

Sunday should be good for me...I might have something planned, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I'll confirm this tomorrow or Saturday. More than likely, however, I'll be available for most of Sunday.

I'm on vacation, but in town. So it really depends on what the wife wants to do. I have my home draft/poker-night the following weekend so it may not be wise for me to donk off parts of two vacation weekends to fantasy football. :goodposting:

If I'm not around I'll do my best to pre-select a few rounds. :goodposting:

Sunday is not particularly good for me. Weekdays and eves are always better. Committing on a weekend is next to impossible as that's when I do family things.

But you'll never, ever have a problem with my timely picks in general. In every draft I've been in the last 10 years or so, I always end up as one of the 3-4 fastest drafters. So even if you guys try to rush picks through on Sunday, I'll figure out how to not delay things.

Okay, though I'm still waiting to post my full thoughts until after the draft  , my thoughts here were as follows.1. Yes, strict in the sense that the DD helps me to see ADP more easily, which keeps me honest. I tend to want to draft my guys ahead of their ADP, since my tiers tend to different than others. The DD helps me to see where others are, helps with SOS at a glance and keeps me organized. I don't supply any projections though, so I'm as likely to take the 10th player on the list than the first.2. I strongly considered Plaxico Burress there, and Wes Welker was peripherally in the discussion. Torry Holt would've been tough to pass. I would've rostered any of the other WRs taken before 3.10 before Witten. There was a deep tier of about ten that I see with decent WR2+ value. I flaked on the Galloway pick -- DD snafu when I mocked a few picks before I went to bed and missed that Calvin Johnson was still on the board. It was more about the TE tier than the WR tier at this point, however.3. Kind of, but not really. I generally don't pay much attention to what everyone else is doing, as I noted above, other than to gauge when my next tier might dry up. I have Witten pretty well ahead of every other TE in this format, so I decided I wouldn't risk him through the turn.
