Communism didnt work for the Soviets. I don't think they would appreciate our democracy and would do ANTHING to bring us under their control. They have a plan!!!

The world would be far worse off.
While the GOP has historically been isolationist (pre-9/11), the dems, neocons and those leaning towards those views (McCain) are more likely to go out in the world and promote security/stability. Post-9/11, most of the GOP, the neocons and moderates are willing to go out into the world for promoting security/stability. And, while we do this, we seemed to have learned to focus on those areas where both our interests and the indigenous peoples in that area are maximized. The obvious example is the ME, but the not so obvious are the Caspian/Central Asia/Caucuses region.
China has historically been exponentially more isolationist. And, their stance on the Caspian/Central Asia/Caucuses region is to side with their own interests with no thought about the indigenous peoples.

Human rights in China are abyssmal right now. Not sure why they'd be even worse if China was the lone superpower.EDIT: I voted "about the same."

Militarily speaking they are a full generation behind us. Our good buddies the Russians, NK's and a few other assorted allies are trying to change that though.
They have no blue water navy or the ability to significantly project force but they are coming on strong. They would have already made a play for Taiwan if they in any way thought they could get away with it. They just know we would swat their entire contingent of Migs and Tupolevs out of the air in the first week and their crappy navy would be sitting at the bottom of the ocean very rapidly.
They are biding their time I guarantee it!!

The difference between the U.S. and China in that role? When the U.S. starts a war, it wants to get out of the country as soon as possible. China would start a war and occupy that country either outright or setting up a puppet government. For historical reference see the Soviet dominance over the eastern bloc countries and China's similiar desire if not actual ability to do so in Asia.

The world? Who knows, we'd probably be better off though. Just think of all the money we'd be saving and putting into our own country.

We would be SO worse off. The Chinese would never just let us be fat dumb and happy putting money into our own country. it would only be a matter of time before they took a swing at us. Capitalism is unacceptable to them.

Different <> Better.You would have concentration camps set up around the world to control the population. Censorship would be everywhere, the internet might not exist at all or maybe in some basterized form. The idea for personal rights would not be tolorated by the state. We would all be working 12 hour days barely making enough money to feed ourselves. State run schools would be moulding our youth to value the state over family, friends, and even themselves.
Read 1984 and you get the idea or Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead also.

Obviously nothing is going to get proven here. But I don't see any reason to believe that China would go on a world rampage oppressing other countries.

Sad part is that we are probably going to see this within 20 years. I think there is a good chance it will be reminiscent of the "Dream Team". They were the unstoppable force that had us feeling that we would dominate basketball for decades to come as long as we sent our best...it went away quick.LAUNCH

Compared to China it is virtually spotless.During the last revolution in China soldier would enter a home and if they found any books or writing material everyone in the house was killed. This was done to create a population devoid of any intellectuals making them easier to control and reeducate.
While our American revolution while far from being bloodless the killing of civilians was very limited comparatively.

Canada seems pretty good. The Scandanavian countries. I haven't really researched it, but those are some that come to mind.

As long as China is making as much money off of us that they are now we do not have to worry about going to war with them. However, the future is never constant. This is the reason I shake my head in disgust when we launch a new submarine and morons that seem incapable of thinking in strategic broad strokes scream about how is this new $100 Billion weapon system is suppose to help fight terrorism and therefore is a waste of money. Well..... you can not build these things over night and the point where you have you 9/11 type of event with China or another up and coming country that could pose a threat in the future is the day it is too late and we go scrambling around. Just as we have pretty much in every single war the U.S. has fought from the revolution to vietnam. The Gulf Wars have been the only major conflicts we were prepared for and that was because we were getting ready to fight the Soviets over the last previous 50 years! China is not a threat now and may never be. But we must be prepared and ready as if they will be.

There is a difference between puppet governments vs. setting up and supporting friendly governments. Not a huge difference but there is a difference. I have not been a fan of the acts of the U.S. in South America, Africa, and Asia in tearing down and setting up new governments. I think a lot of this was an evil that seemingly had to be done when faced with the Soviet threat. I think now we should be able to use positive influence diplomatically on most governments to get what we want and for those we seemingly can not (Venezala and Iran come to mind) we should be able to isolate them enough to get mostly what we need out of them. Iran may be a whole different ball of wax. Anyways, touche, however I do not think you won match on that.

you can't "set up" another gov't and claim to be a "democracy". at least not in the way the US has done it... asassination ("unofficially") and vote-rigging are not exactly OK.
