If Leinart falls to #5, will the Packers take him? (1 Viewer)

This is purely speculation, but with Favre acting a fool and Cutler supposedly moving up in the draft (which I don't necessarily believe) is it possible that if Leinart falls into their lap he'll become a cheesehead? I know they took Rodgers last year but if Favre is gone they need a plan B. Also, Leinart is a much better prospect than Rodgers.

If the draft went:

1- Bush - duh

2- Hawk - LB is a much bigger need than OT with Jammal Brown moving to LT

3- Cutler - I don't believe it, but many are saying this will happen

4- Ferguson - they need him

Do the Packers take Leinart or do they grab up Mario Williams?

I believe Mario Williams would be the pick in that unlikely scenario. I don't think there's any way he gets by the Packers at #5.

Correct.I, however, would be content with any of these 3:

Mario

Hawk

D'Brickshaw

:2cents:

There is no way he falls that far in the draft. It will just not happen to many teams in the top four need a qb or will trade that pick to someone that wants Matt.

There's some speculation that the Saints will trade down to 4, Jets take Leinart, NO takes Brick or Hawk.

I haven't seen anything leading me to believe Leinart will fall out of the top 4.

Why would they pick Leinart when they burned a 1st rounder last year on Rodgers? That GB didn't send Rodgers to NFLE is a positive sign that they expect good things from him.

In Rob Rang's rumors article from Friday, he said the Packers have been rumored to have interest in Young and Cutler, but not so much in Leinart...

This is likely because they know full well that he won't be there at #5. Leinart will be gone after #3, no matter WHO it is drafting...

Huh? They didn't send Rodgers to NFLE because they knew he wasn't ready. Again, the Packers have not been happy AT ALL in what they saw from Rodgers last year.

I keep hearing that, but I've never seen any real proof (not that I would expect them to come out and admit he sucks).

You're going to have to show some kind of proof for that. Why would they want their potential starter if Favre retires playing all Spring in NFLEL?

Smokescreen hoping that one or both go before #5 causing who Thompson really wants to be there at #5. I don't put much faith in Thompson rumors since if his own wife was dying and her last wish was to know who he wanted at #5 he probably wouldn't even tell her.

IIRC Pennington had many of the same things said about him while he sat behind Vinny for two years.I'd hope Rodgers would at least be as productive as Pennington, but 1st round picks don't even average out THAT high, and that's not saying a helluvalot.

If anything, sending him to NFLE would indicate less faith to me. That's valuable time that he could spend with coaches and his teammates. That they were even thinking about it is a bad sign to me.

 how many starting QBs get sent to Europe? How many starting players?

How many primary backups?

how much would it cost the Packers to trade up to #2 and select Mario?

what if they signed LaVar Arrington and/or Charles Woodson and then traded up for Mario? Could get Favre excited to come back pretty quickly in that scenario I imagine.

Saints could drop down to #5 and still wind up with Hawk.

Proof? Just read anything that Packer insiders and reporters have written about Rodgers. It is well known that the Packers haven't been happy with Rodgers progress.

I think you're saying the same thing, but the comment in bold is confusing. Are you saying the Packers don't think Rodgers is ready, or they think he is?

Or that they didn't send him to NFLE, because he isn't ready?

I'm just confused here.

I don't think they sent him because he isn't ready and they didn't want to do anything to A. damage his confidence and B. ruin what they could get for him in a possible trade should they draft another QB.

Scary thought, not being ready for Europe.

I hope I'm wrong. However, I try to read about the Packers daily and there was very little if any positive remarks made about Rodgers once they started to see him in mini camps and training camp. He looked terrible in preseason and in his short regular season playing time. He was very slow to pick up the offense and his arm was questionable. Rodgers may be another Tedford QB with no future in the NFL.
