If NE loses, do the Bengals try to win tonight? (1 Viewer)

Well, as I'm typing this, the Pats are up by two TDs.

Still, Bengals coach, Marvin Lewis made this statement to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

"We're going to play to win a football game. We're going to go ahead and end this thing the right way and keep this momentum we've had. Since the meltdown in San Diego and the lapses in Minnesota, we've played good football the last 6-7 weeks and want to continue playing that way."

Every team always plays to win. Whomever is on the field for the Bengals will try their hardest, I'm sure.

Now someone like Palmer, who has been dealing with an injury all year and who has a memorable, catastrophic injury in his rearview mirror, may not play for very long. Ditto any banged up players.

I don't believe Cinci will hand the Jets an invite into the playoffs. Truth be told, the Jets have a great defense right now and any team that lets them in the playoffs is stupid, rookie QB or not they can be a real pain in the ###.

I would much rather want to face Denver, Pitt, Houston, Miami...the Jets are not at the top of that list so Cinci would be wise to try and get rid of them tonight.

Thanks. This is good info - one would infer that they will play their starters for a while at least.

A Cincy win earns them a shot at the Texans. Houston won in Cincy earlier this year, so they may not like that matchup.

If I were the Bengals I would MUCH rather play the Jets than the Texans.

The Jets have to have the biggest rabbit's foot in the world in their locker room. First they get the Colts backups and now likely the Bengals backups. Crazy the luck they have.

I rather play the Texans if I were the Bengals.

Why?

I rather play a team with an above average offense, and bad defense than a team with a good defense and below average offense.

....weird.

Uhm...yeah....the Texans offense is extremelely dangerous and they blew away the Bengals in Cincy earlier this year. Schaub hadalmost 400 yards passing. No offense to the Jets, but I think the Bengals Defense can contain them much better than Houston's offense.

If the weather is terrible next weekend in Cincy, the Texans would be the easier out. The loss to the Texans was blown out of proportion. The Bengals got hit by a ton of injuries early in that game and ran out of defensive linemen. Schaub will struggle on a 20 degree day in the Jungle.

Did I hear correctly that Benson is inactive?
From roto:
Bengals declared RB Cedric Benson, QB Jordan Palmer, S Chris Crocker, FB Fui Vakapuna, TE J.P. Foschi, DE Robert Geathers, DT Domata Peko and C Jonathan Luigs inactive for Sunday Night Football against the Jets.Carson Palmer is active and is expected to start, but the Bengals are taking it easy and resting most of their impact players in Week 17.
