If the Dolphins signed Michael Vick (1 Viewer)

Hoart Petterson

The perfect player to run that offense. Vick, Pat White, Ronnie Brown all in the same backfield lining up in the Wildcat. :shudder:

Marc Anthony/Jimmy Buffet...if you're reading this, make it happen. Would be the most exciting offense in NFL history.

If the Dolphins sign Vick it would give them extra options in the Wildcat, but it may require a revamp from what was primarily a power running formation last year. Vick did run some Wildcat type QB option plays in his final year in Atlanta, which worked for the first few games until teams realized there were only 2 possible plays from it and no throwing threat.

The Panthers were the first team to run the Wildcat with DeShaun Foster at QB in a late season game vs the Falcons in 06 or 07. Delhomme was injured, Weinke was his backup, so John Fox decided he would exploit Atlanta's embarrassing run D, led by overpaid leaders Ed Hartwell and Keith Brooking - the team actually stayed in zone formations when there was no QB on the field. Panthers won the game something like 13-6, the most lopsided 7 point victory you will ever see.

Regardless of where he signs, he ought to do it soon. We don't need TWO prima dona QB's waffling on their decision in one offseason

Not to get too much ahead of ourselves, but if this did happen, that would make for one heck of a Week 1 game storyline.

do they need him with Pat White? How about Matt Jones on the Fins? They can all take turns lining up at different spots

I think had Pat White slipped through the Dolphins fingers, vick would be swept up by the Dolphins in an instant methinks. The only way he goes there now is as a practice squad backup to White as the wildcat QB. Also, the Dolphins are definitely expanding the wildcat to more than a power running formation. White being drafted is a direct consequence of this.

Parcells asks every potential player the same question. What are the three most important things to you?

If two out of the three are not football, family, or God, he says they're not worth it.

How would Vick fare?

:moneybag: :pickle: & :gang1: , probably in that order.

he has too much experience to be on the PS

In that case the chances are zero. Does anyone honestly see a dolphins team with Parcells running it having four QBs on the active squad? Between Pennington, White, and Henne, Vick is the odd man out.

Worst thread title in Footballguys history.

They would suck with Vick. The WR's would be useless as they were in Atlanta.

Please ... Vick is better then the 3 of them put together .

this is more like it. they'd be somewhat exciting, but ultimately i dont think it'd be much different than Hotlanta. a QB still has to be able to throw accurately.

Michael Vick is a better QB than the guy with the highest career completion percentage in NFL history? That's an interesting opinion.

Very easy , when you throw 3 yd passes all the time .Are you suggesting that Pennington is one of the best NFL in history , if so you have a problem .What i am saying is that the Dolphins with Vick would have a way , way more dangerous and productive offense wiht Vick then with a Pennnington or two unproven rookies ( I know Henne is nt but he has nt even played a down in the NFl ) .

defenses would stack the box and make vick beat them with his arm.

No, but I am suggesting that Pennington is a far superior QB to Vick. I can't really help you if you think a QB who hasn't played in 2 years is better than a QB who put up a 97.4 passer rating last year.

All Vick is is a really fast athlete that has a strong arm but poor touch. As an NFL QB he never really was considered great. Fast as hell but not very accurate. If he comes back the team that picks him up will probably be sorry in the future.

Look here:

Pennington, Henne, and White have definitive roles on the team.

-Pennington is the manager of the teams traditional offense

-Henne is the backup to Pennington.

-White is the intended manager of the wildcat offense.

While it would be nice to have Vick as an insurance policy, unless they plan to abandon a traditional offense or give White the second spot on the traditional offensive package. Until these things occur, Henne is not worth losing for Vick.

There is one other scenario. If they want to put both Vick and White on the field consistently, it could happen.

Yeah and I wonder what that time in prison did to him. I highly doubt he'll be able to compete very effectively for much of the season.

LOL @ all the people pimping Pennington over Vick. Vick may have never reached his potential in Atlanta but that wasn't because the guy lacks talent. Put that guy in the right system and he's maybe one of the top 3 players in the history of sport. Those wheels with that hose and people actually think Pennington is even close to him in terms of NFL talent? ####, I could complete 60% of my passes if they were all 10 yard curls to Greg Camarillo too.

I know I'm thinking outside the box here but put Vick in the shotgun with Pat White to his right and Ronnie Brown to his left, put Ted Ginn in motion running toward the center....you're a defensive coordinator...how do you prepare for that formation? Would be unstoppable. Pennington would never see the field and Henne would be the in the CFL.

:lmao: Seriously, is this :goodposting: ?

No one can deny Vick's athletic ability, nor is anyone attempting to. But he obviously either lacks something between the ears, work ethic, or both. Vick is also a far superior athlete to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but I doubt you're going to tell us that you'd take Vick over either of those guys, are you? (And no, I'm certainly not trying to say that Pennington is on the Brady/Manning level; I am merely pointing out that it takes a lot more than athletic ability to be a great QB.) Not to mention that Vick hasn't even played in the NFL since 2006. Do you suppose he more likely got better or worse during his time away from the game?

The Atlanta Falcons spent 5 or 6 years trying to put him "in the right system," and, in order, they finished 5th, 20th, 16th, 14th, and 25th in offense.

You're asking how an NFL defensive coordinator would prepare for an offense that features a 54% career passer, a guy who caught 56 passes last year, a RB, and a guy who was playing QB in college last year. And your plan is to sit the guy who finished 2nd in MVP voting last year in order to make this happen. Are you serious?

And no, you couldn't complete 60% of your passes if they were all 10 yard curls to Greg Camarillo. If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it.

*Only year Vick played in an offense somewhat geared to his talents. The 2nd year he was injured for 12 games and the last 3 were in Greg Knapp's miserable WCO. It would have been nice if Vick had stuck around for Petrina's power spread, but it wasn't to be.

:excited: I'd single cover Ginn. Put my weakest defender on Pat White and stack the box.

Roddy White with Vick at QB was as useless as #### on a boar. Roddy White, the next year, with a hack ex-insurance salesman named Redman as his QB , put up his best year up to that point.

Dude you need to get together and start a thread with hairy scotsman on who is the greatest QB: Vick or Young. :excited: Have fun.
