If the nfl went to a college style overtime (1 Viewer)

If one of your guys in fantasy goes to overtime it could end up being beneficial these days but if the nfl went to a college style overtime where both teams are guaranteed there shots and start their drives at the 25 yd line where multiple touchdowns and and drives could take place. Imagine it brothers it probably wont be this great but o it could be five bonus touchdowns in a game because it went to overtime people would be begging for their stars to go overtime everyweek, it would get ridiculously awesome.

It would be terrible. The NFL will never do it, thank goodness. There are too many records they are proud of to see them get torched by a stupid overtime system.

Good post bro i didnt think about the records at stake with gimme stats that would be pretty bogus

It wouldn't be a bad idea...but I would have the teams start at midfield or their own 40 yard line. You have to have at least a legit drive to go 50-60 yards, but the 25 yard line is just stupid.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a set OT period get played out, say 10 minutes. I don't like that it ends on the first score.

I couldn't disagree more. There's enough randomness in fantasy football without guys having 8 touchdown days that are totally unpredictable.

Just go into the 5th Quarter...so if a Team A scores to tie the game with :05 left in a 4 quarter game, Team A kicks off and Team B receives and keeps playing at that point until a team scores scores. Do not restart the game or coin flip.

If you want to give an extra timeout...fine.

First to 6 =
This seems like a good compromise to me.
One 15 minute overtime period or the 1st team to 6 points sounds very reasonable. If one team is leading after the extra period is over then we have a winnner, if not then a tie it is.Would be something if one team scores a safety, and then kicks a field goal to go up by 5 points and the other team returns the kickoff for 6 points to win the game!

I've always thought that OT stats shouldn't count even in the current NFL system. If they went to the college system, I would absolutely not play in any leagues that counted those stats.

Both NFL and college ot rules suck. They should simply continue play from scrimmage if the 4th qtr ends in a tie. How could something so simple end up so random and convoluted?

Because continuing to play from scrimmage at the end of the 4th is a stupid idea. It would mean that in a tie game, the team with the ball would have infinite time to score.

Would it still be ridiculously awesome if your opponent had four players in the game with five bonus TDs and you had no players?

Of all things proposed, I've been heavily in favor of 1st team to 6 pts. Agreed that it makes the most sense.

I actually came up with an idea that isn't a major change to what's done but might at least make it more fair:

Team that loses the toss chooses a yard line for the kickoff

Then, the team that wins the toss gets to choose whether to kick or receive.

Exactly. Not to mention it would take away from all the end-game situations like a 2 minute drill, running out the clock for the tie FG, etc.

This is a non-issue for fantasy. The obvious solution to a college system would be to not count any stats from OT. Since our games are based on the PLAYERS stats, not the teams W/L....we should probably not be counting them now.

Bob Costas' rant - It's time to change the NFL's overtime system (link) He makes some good points.
I can't stand Costas. Just listening to him makes me turn against the idea. He's so snide and condescending in his delivery. Even in that clip you posted, it sounded like he was talking down to everyone. I have no idea why he is a broadcaster.

Because he's too short to be a WR?
