If the Republicans win the House this fall (as expected) (1 Viewer)

This article is over a month old but I thought it was worth discussing:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/newrepublic.com/amp/article/164760/republican-revenge-january-6-committee

I think the Republicans are going to win big in November, and the main reason will be inflation. Other issues that could help Republicans are parental controls in schools, and, for the conservative base, the border problem. Some posters like @TripItUp have also argued that the Republicans will win because the public is sick of the 1/6 committee. So given all this, you would think that the GOP has plans to fight inflation, and legislate the other issues they be campaigning on, right?

Well not exactly. According to this article and others, their primary activity once taking power will be…revenge. More hearings, more investigations. Subpoena Hunter Biden. Investigate Pelosi’s handling of January 6. Impeach Joe Biden (not quite sure for what yet.)

I wonder how long they will stay in power if they actually go through with this stuff???

It will hurt the Republicans if they do...to rise above the Democrats' childish actions should be the Republican play if they want to maintain power IMHO.

For the record, I think there are a multitude of reasons that the Democrats are seeing historic losses in polling, so this is much more than just the 1/6 committee and the other bogus Democrat witch hunts from the past several years.  It's actually difficult to find what they have done right.

Well other than saving the economy,  but hey, who cares about that right?

Don’t forget that they have a big, beautiful healthcare plan that’s way better than Obamacare all ready to go.

They really do have great ideas.

I expect Biden to be impeached by March 2023.  Multiple articles.  Republicans will campaign on taking back control of the House and Senate so they can impeach Biden right away.

Article for mishandling of the Covid response for sure, definitely one for mishandling the withdrawal from Afghanistan, definitely something about business ties with foreign nations through Hunter Biden, an article for stealing the election might get to the floor for a vote but won’t pass.

How soon it gets to the Senate probably depends on if there is an open Supreme Court seat or not.  If there’s an open one, the impeachment articles will all be written and ready to go when the new House gets sworn in early January and gets delivered to the Senate right away.  So the Senate will be forced to stop all other business and hold an impeachment trial.  If there’s not an open SCOTUS seat, the House holds impeachment hearings for several months, so get ready for lots of Jim Jordan on TV.

The GOP-controlled House will vote to remove Pelosi from all committee assignments for dereliction of duty during the January 6 legitimate political discourse.  Then vote to remove AOC from all committee assignments as payback for the same treatment given to Marjorie Taylor Greene.  They will justify it by calling her a communist or claiming some sort of financial malfeasance by her campaign or staff.

Any legislation passed will be purposely written to ensure Biden vetoes it.  To set up the 2024 election as the party that tries to get things done versus the terrible President who doesn’t do anything.  So pretty much like how the GOP-controlled House behaved when Obama was President, but less civil.

Mask mandates will be a big deal, the D’s can end them in the next month though.

Going even further out after the midterms….Even if they somehow stop the cheating machine and win who would we get a Bush clone? That was a disaster. Maybe an old limp noodle, bail out like a commie, operation warp speeder like Drumpf (his real family name before they changed it) again? Another controlled opposition disaster who changed parties? I don’t think I would put any faith in the Mitch McConnell, R in name only types. I expect whoever it is they won’t be a uniter. It will be the same old, make the little people fight, while we gorge ourselves on money, sex and power type. Keep fighting over putting diapers on faces instead of bottoms while the world economic forum and the U.N. marches us into the great reset. Lunacy I tell ya. Absolute lunacy.

Good to see reality setting in for our Liberal friends. Instead of partisan articles about what the Right may do when they take control soon you should reflect on the failures of your party you said would never lose again in multiple threads?

You reap what you sow.

(Although I don't expect the GOP to actually impeach Biden)

I hope the Republicans don't do the scorched earth tactic.  Just pass laws that were popular with the Trump base (voter ID, border wall, etc.) and let Biden veto them.  Then when the country continues to have issues, just blame it all on Biden and win big again in 2024.  If the country doesn't have issues, take the credit and win big again in 2024.  It's so easy that I'm sure it won't happen.

For somebody who has a pretty good handle on US history prior to, say 1980 or so, it's sometimes as if you've been in a coma for the last 30 years.

When was the last time the party that controlled the house but not the presidency advanced an affirmative governing agenda?  Contract with America?  I can't recall anything by either party since then.  It's been scorched earth obstruction for at least the past couple of decades.

Edit: In answer to your question, of course the Republicans will do nothing but obstruct Biden.  Making the 2024 election a referendum on Biden is how the Republicans win back the presidency.  They know that.  They're not going to gratuitously hand Biden a policy argument that he can run on.

No disagreement about the last 30 years. But if the article is correct (and it’s only one of several, from both left and right sources reporting the same thing) it’s going to be worse than ever before. We’re not talking about obstructing Biden’s agenda; that’s a given. We’re talking about pursuing Donald Trump’s personal vendetta against those who he believes has wronged him.

I honestly believe this formula would work pretty well. I also agree with you that it won’t happen.

I will respect the wishes of the owner of this forum and not proffer a wager here as to the bold. But I would have liked to...

None of those laws would reach Biden's desk to veto unless: 1) Republicans also take the Senate; and 2) Republicans get rid of the filibuster.  I think the chances of both of those things happening is pretty low.

Good to see reality setting in for our Liberal friends. Instead of partisan articles about what the Right may do when they take control soon you should reflect on the failures of your party you said would never lose again in multiple threads?
What I wrote, in multiple threads, was that the Democratic Party would continue to win the popular vote in Presidential elections. As as demographic changes continue the level of victory should only increase. Whether that theory is correct or not, it doesn’t have anything to do with this coming election.
I agree with you that the article is from a partisan source, The New Republic. But the truth is ai chose it randomly from several articles from both left and right reporting the same thing based on interviews and public statements from prominent House Republicans.

GOP wins house and senate, then wins the POTUS in 2024, reverses all of Bidens EOs. Writes new EOs, makes border strong, opens pipelines, drills for oil independence.

GOP loses house in 2026, loses POTUS in 2028, new Dem POTUS reverses the EOs, opens border, halts drilling and pipelines.

Rinse wash repeat.

Said no one, ever.
So you think there is a zero chance of a Biden impeachment or that he dies, resigns, or is removed from office?  Many on the right are pushing for his impeachment.   Ted Cruz expects it.  I don't think Kevin McCarthy is strong enough to prevent it.

He might get impeached but no way he gets removed from office.  Death or health issues are obviously considerations given his age.

I would bet on this as the outcome.

that's what Democrats did with - what happened with Trump and between 2016-2020 will not be forgotten soon

for me? they don't need to revenge anything, just stop the liberal agenda and I'd be happy with that

Why would Biden be impeached?  I don't get that one.
Because Trump wants Biden impeached.
Because Trump was impeached.
Because the majority of Republicans think Biden stole the election and isn’t the rightful President.
To clog the legislative calendar.
To hold hearings and a trial for months about how bad Biden is and make the MSM report it all.

Sounds like damage control to me, but better to catch in late than never.

All bad reasons.
Those won’t be in the actual articles of impeachment.  That’s why they will go forward with impeachment and face zero negative consequences from Republican voters for doing so.  Should also have included  “because Trump wants Biden impeached” to the list.

They will officially impeach him for malfeasance related to Covid or Afghanistan or being bought by China or persecution of those engaging in legitimate political discourse, or some combination of those.

Still all bad reasons.

Doubtful any of them happen.

yep, as long as he is remembered as being impeached, that's the goal

same as previous POTUS

With a very conservative and activist court protecting the extreme gerrymandering this is going to get very ugly.
Not to derail this thread, but I read somewhere recently that the GOP protected incumbents at the cost of few more guaranteed seats in a few places this time around.  Such that even though democrats had a bunch of tough losses in 2020 state houses the redistricting game won't be as much of a disaster as expected.   I tend to read this kind of stuff as "wishful thinking" but somewhere out there is article listing states where this happened.  (Sorry I cannot find where I read it.)

But you were so adament that the Republicans had no chance in 2022.  Your exact quote to me was "numbers".

Oh, cool, so they'll make something up just like the Democrats did.

I don't understand why this bothers you at all - the Democrats did the same thing from 2016-2020.  Just made stuff up to "get"  Trump.  They didn't actually put "We hate Trump" and "Revenge for Hillary Loss" in their articles of impeachment either, but made up something else so it sounded official-like.

Two can play at that game.

Part of me would like the Republicans to continue to be the adults in the room and just push through the powerful MAGA America First agenda.  However, the repugnant actions of Democrats over the past 5+ years warrants getting a proverbial pound of flesh once in power.

I thought his call to the Ukraine was recorded?  Are you saying that wasn't him on the line?

Subpoena Hunter Biden.
This one is absolutely necessary.  The Chinese have a stated policy of essentially bribing elite citizens of other countries (particularly the US) to grease skids.  It works and should be exposed for what it is.  On top of that we certainly are going to bat for a country outside of NATO with Ukraine, who just happened to buy off Hunter with millions.  That also seems to be paying off.

These items need be aired out in sunlight and discussed extensively.

I thought his call to the Ukraine was recorded?  Are you saying that wasn't him on the line?

Part of the "making stuff up strategy" is also overblowing anything else to make it look really, really bad.  If there is one thing we know about the left, it's that they're highly emotional and easily riled up.  They'll believe anything if you put enough fake outrage modifiers on it and/or string a bunch of "OMG!"'s to it as well (the exclamation point is KEY for max effectiveness).

Also see The Dossier if you need more convincing.

I rest my case.
