If there is a Lock-out... (1 Viewer)

I'm assuming this wasn't already brought up on another thread but if there is a lock-out in 2011, I'm assuming it would happen before free agency would start, meaning end of February/beginning of March in 2011 right? If it drags on and on, into the beginning of summer and into August, what would happen to the NFL draft then for 2011 then?

I guess what I'm getting at is, if ownership knows it will be a short/small lock-out where the season starts in October and teams play 14 games or whatever, is there some sort of an advantage to trade your 2011 pick for a 2010 pick ORRRRRR would it be better to have your picks in 2011 and 2012 because of the lock-out???

The current CBA specifically allows a draft the year after it expires.

Technically, the current CBA has the 2011 draft in February, before it expires.

The following is from the CBA. Article XVI COLLEGE DRAFTSection 1. Time of Draft: There shall be an Annual Selection Meeting (the "College Draft" or "Draft") each League Year during the term of this Agreement and in the League Year immediately following the expiration or termination of this Agreement, with respect to which the following rules shall apply:

The OP makes me think that EVERY Dynasty league needs to talk about this now. If there is a lockout in 2011 how do they handle:

1) rookie draft in 2011

2) Do they have a fantasy season if the league uses scabs? If so, do they have a FA draft?

3) What if there is a partial season? How will that affect the way they determine fantasy playoffs?

4) In contract leagues, does 2011 count as a year of eligibility for fantasy rosters if the league locks out?

Lots of issues to resolve and they should be resolved sooner than later because it could affect things like what players you keep, what players you pursue in drafts, and how rookie picks in 2011 are valued.

Hmmm. And traded picks. Better to deal away 2011 picks for current players or accumulate picks for aging players who may lose a critical year late in their careers.

Well unless someone has a better idea, I'm thinking it's a better to horde 2011 picks. If there isn't a lockout, well, you have a hold on the 2011 class. But if there isn't, and they come back for 2012, then there would be not one, but TWO classes to choose from with your horde of 2011 picks.

would love to hear an opinion on this from FBG staff as an article. I really am not sure. But it could actually play a big role in dynasty and keeper league strategy.

If anything i don't see how 2011 draft picks could increase in value. To me i see them either staying the same or decreasing in value. I mean there's going to be a draft. Its either going to be right after the Superbowl or in April as usual. If there's no lockout then everything stays the same. If there is and the 2011 season is a wash then we're going to have to wait an extra year before these guys take the field and assuming the 2012 draft happens, they'll be competing with the guys selected in the following draft on equal footing after not having played for two years. If a lockout looks likely i could see a lot of players staying in school an extra year.

You got me thinking. Would 2011 draft picks sitting for a year suffer from Big Mike Williams syndrome and not perform as well as the 2012 draft picks? Obviously most junior college players would choose not to come out in 2011 and go back for their senior season. I imagine many dynasty leagues will choose to call it quits and start from scratch in 2012.

Easy enough to figure out. If there is no 2011 draft, 2011 fatasy picks roll to 2012, 2012 to 2013, ect.
