If there were a league for worst players... (1 Viewer)

I've always thought it would be fun to have a league where the worst players were on top. Points go to passing/rushing attempts, and are lost for yardage and TDs. The new TD would be turnovers, especially fumbles. At first I set this up as a goof, but it's interesting to see who is projected to squander opportunity.

I ran a few proposed setups in the VBD app, and here are the rules that seemed to work the best:

PASSING

attempt: 2

Completion -2

Passing Yard: -0.1

INT/Fumble:20/40

TD:-20

300 yards passing: -20

Rushing: 3

Rushing yard: -1

This means a player must throw less 50%, (two points for every incompletion beyond 50%) and negates an incompletion for every 20 yards passing. Every INT thrown more than TDs is awarded 20 points, fumbles are worth 2 INTs. Also a little bonus for rushes under three yards for QBs.

RUSHING

attempt: 9

Rushing yard: -2

TD: -20

Fumble: 40

100 yards rushing: -20

This means that 4.5 ypc is the break even point. If you can get 4.5 and no TDs, you break even, and keep all of your fumble points. Scoring a TD or rushing for 100 yards essentially lowers the ypc cap a player must stay under to score points.

I'd love to see someone come up with better rules for such a league. Unfortunately, without targets the receivers are difficult to score, since a 2 yard reception is much better for their team than if that pass were dropped. That sad, Wes Welker seems to take the cake for lots of catches for limited production.

So here are the guys of interest who will get a lot of opportunity and do the least with it (per VBD):

QBs:

1 JaMarcus Russell (17.09)

2 Rex Grossman (23.07)

3 Brodie Croyle (24.10)

4 Brett Favre (---)

5 Matt Leinart (14.08)

6 Chris Redman (---)

7 Kellen Clemens (---)

8 Alex Smith (20.02)

9 Kyle Boller (---)

10 Matt Ryan (23.08)

11 Jon Kitna (12.10)

12 Shaun Hill (---)

13 Trent Edwards (19.04)

14 John Beck (---)

15 Eli Manning (08.07)

16 Josh McCown (---)

17 Jake Delhomme (10.09)

18 Brian Brohm (---)

19 Kyle Orton (---)

20 Troy Smith (---)

21 Joe Flacco (---)

22 Tarvaris Jackson (19.10)

23 Philip Rivers (11.04)

24 Aaron Rodgers (11.08)

25 Chad Henne (---)

Running Backs

this is the complete list of RBs who would score points in this system. The true elites are all way negative, but it's interesting to see some backs you want projected to do little if given a lot of carries.

1 LenDale White (06.06)

2 Matt Forte (07.01)

3 Rudi Johnson (06.03)

4 Edgerrin James (05.02)

5 Ricky Williams (14.02)

6 Thomas Jones (05.08)

7 Marcel Shipp (---)

8 Dominic Rhodes (18.03)

9 Ahman Green (10.06)

10 Julius Jones (06.04)

11 Dwayne Wright (---)

12 Jesse Chatman (---)

13 Ryan Torain (15.06)

14 Samkon Gado (---)

15 Musa Smith (---)

16 Carnell Williams (20.01)

17 Kenny Irons (---)

18 Reuben Droughns (---)

19 Steve Slaton (21.01)

20 T.J. Duckett (19.01)

21 Kevin Smith (07.07)

Just thought I'd throw it out there for a completely different perspective on how players perform.
