If/When Coach Linehan leaves... (1 Viewer)

Like many of you, I am disgusted by the St. Louis Rams. Having watched them play twice this year, they are so bad that I have no idea if this is due to lack of talent on the offensive line or bad coaching. Their players just seem to be going through the motions instead of playing with urgency.

If and when Coach Linehan is replaced, is that going to make Bulger, Holt and SJax better fantasy contributors or are we going to see more of the same inconsistency that has been frustrating their owners?

Clearly, this isn't a good team. But a coaching change can only help the attitude in the locker room. Throw in a nice closing schedule and all those guys could be decent fantasy options down the stretch. But they need to make that change tomorrow (Monday).

A key part of this discussion should be, "What happens with Saunders if when Linehan is canned?"

Saunders has an undeniably explosive offense, however it takes over a year to fully implement it to the point where the players have mastered it and it's running at full capacity. Will the new head coach keep Saunders and allow his offense to continue its development? Will it matter given that this team will likely need to be rebuilt pretty extensively?

I'm starting to doubt whether any offensive player on this team is worth having aside from SJax and Avery and/or Burton. I don't see much future there for Bulger or Holt given the changes I think this team needs to make. I could easily envision a new GM and a new head coach (from outside the organization) being hired this coming offseason, and deciding to replace Saunders and trade Bulger and Holt to enable this team to be rebuilt. It makes projecting these players' value in dynasty almost impossible.

Well my first inclination is to say "Who knows? It largely depends upon who replaces Linehan."Other the other hand, perhaps some fantasy professional has done a study of midseason head coaching changes and found some patterns, but I am unaware of any.

I think Al Saunders will be just fine. Keep in mind that some of the Rams' key players (SJax, Bulger, Green, Holt) have played in Saunders system before and they've excelled in it too. If anything, I think the coaching change will definitely boost the team morale. Just like a previous poster said, the team is just going thru the motions instead of playing with a sense of urgency. I truthfully think that should change a lil bit in the next coming weeks..

If the new coach can't play on the offensive line, it will not have much impact. They can't block anyone.
That was my exact response as well. Their line is horrible as expected and their defense is horrible as expected. Not sure why so many are surprised although I am surprised by the rumored personnel craziness (trade holt, bench bulger nonsense).

Their off. line is not very good, but they are not this bad. As far as def and fantasy are concerned, who cares? Part of the reason people drafted the Rams hinged on bad def and more off. opportunities. As a Holt owner I dont want to see an improved defense. But I think that thr Rams will surprise many in the coming months. The list of players that despised Linehan is long, and I don't blame them. It's been documented on this board that Linehan would not even entertain ideas from his best players as to adjustments. Not exactly Bill Walsh type behavior. And he got what was coming to him.Now that we're past that the players can come in with a new attitude and start buying into the scheme. I'm not saying that they will be competitve and win games. But their fantasy value is now at its lowest ebb and will only go up. Going from extremely unmotivated to motivated will do that.Torry Holt will be unlikely to meet his preseason value, but he just went from unplayable to playable. Jackson and Bulger get a bump to a lesser degree.

I think Al Saunders will be just fine too . . . if he's allowed to remain. I'm not worried about Al Saunders, I'm worried about my Rams fantasy players. Haslett is the dreaded "interim coach". None of us know what this coming offseason will bring. That's what concerns me here.

 It's true you can get most of their players for a song, except for Sjax and their value won't be lower. I really wouldn't want Bulger at this point but Holt may be a cheap buy. I don't see many monster games but he'll be a marginal #2 wr for the remainder though.

With the uproar from the various "stars", I would think this development can only bode well for Bulger. I would think that he will see a return to the starting lineup.

Many fantasy teams have dropped him. He could be had on the WW in most leagues - in one of my leagues where we start 2 QBs he may prove to be a valuable commodity. I just don't think the Rams offense can play that poorly the whole year. At some point, Holt and the rest of the passing game will have to "bounce back". And when it does he may be a good spot starter.

Haslett Likely to Go With Bulger at QB

A source says it's likely that new interim coach Jim Haslett will reinstate Marc Bulger as the starting quarterback in St. Louis.

Scott Linehan, fired today by the Rams as their coach, benched Bulger last week in favor of Trent Green.

That move drew public criticism by Rams tailback Steven Jackson and failed to produce a win as the club lost Sunday to the Buffalo Bills to fall to 0-4.

 We have our first waiver this week and didn't want to waste a pick on a backup QB.

Although there are better ones out there, he may be serviceable enough.
