At an ADP of 7.01, I think Fred is an outstanding selection as a RB3 even if you haven't taken MJD. There's very little reason to believe he won't post another 1000+ yard season with a handful of scores tossed in.Does it make sense to lockup the Jags running game or just take the gamble and stick with MJD?
Fred Taylor as my RB2 down the stretch last year did a good job of helping me play to win.No.Part of the allure of drafting MJD is the hope that Fred Taylor will be injured or rendered ineffective. If you are rolling the dice on MJD, it doesn't make sense to bet against yourself. If the best case scenario happens, you've wasted a mid-round pick. Pick up another solid backup RB with upside or even go with another position rather than use that pick on Fred. That's just my opinion, though. I think that in most cases, any kind of handcuffing is "playing not to lose" not "playing to win".
I bought Fred in an auction last week for 4$ in a 200$ cap league. It kind of puzzled me that the MJD owner did not over bid me. If he stays healthy he will be a nice flex,Bye,or injury replacement player. This was a big question last year too right? MJD had the talent, and youth was on his side. Old man Fragile Fred was finally supposed to be regulated to handcuff status as the kid took the reigns. IMO it seems hard to believe Del Rio will go against the RBBC approach (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). If he gets his 15 carries a game, and he looks as good as last year how can you not pick him up? Either one of these guys is gold if the gets a high anke sprain or tweaked hammy. If his ADP is late 6 early 7, what other options are available at RB?
i've got MJD as a keeper in upcoming auction. i'm not really targeting taylor. i like him, but i'm assuming his price will be more than i plan to pay.as an MJD owner, there are a few reasons that i'm not going out of my way to also land taylor1. if MJD goes down, i don't see taylor's value going up that much. what limits taylors value the most, is his lack of TDs and receptions. if MJD went down, i think somebody else would get the TD opps (like greg jones) and i wouldn't see taylor getting many more receptions. i could be wrong, but that's just the feeling i get.it's just not a typical handcuff situation (which makes sense, given it's a rare situation in that MJD is the real-life backup, but the more attractive fantasy player)2. taylor will likely need to be drafted/purchased as a RB3. without MJD, i'd love him as a RB3. with MJD, taylor as a RB3 means i've invested in a RB3 who will do me no good during a bye week. like all players, i'll take him if the value's right, but if anything, i think he's just a little less valuable for the MJD owner than to other owners.

That being said, FT is the guy still. As long as he is healthy he's going to get the bulk of the carries. I do not expect him to finish the season. Didn't expect that last year either but he did. The way I look at this is, in a redraft I am looking at Fred Taylor because he is going to be obtainable late. MJD might not see significant carries till FT goes down. And if FT doesn't go down we could see a repeat of last year....In a Dynasty/Keeper I go after MJD early and try to snag Taylor later on.Jayrod said:No.Part of the allure of drafting MJD is the hope that Fred Taylor will be injured or rendered ineffective.
