If you haven't got Austin Collie (1 Viewer)

He obviously has Manning's confidence.

Last week he caught 6 of 7 targets; this week 8 of 9.

His targets by week so far:

3 3 6 7 9

Last night, 97 yards and 2 td's.

The rookie blocks well, knows his assignments. There aren't too many rookies that can do that and make such an impact in their first year. It is not a given that Anthony Gonzalez will get his job back.

Really doubt he is on any ww's at this point. if he is -- he will need to wait in line behind Miles Austin and J. Macklin!

Will bee a busy ww this week.

this is the most important part to me. gonzalez's absence has given garcon, collie and clark real opportunities to emerge. they're all playing really well. AG really has to assert himself over the next few games otherwise, he's just another receiver on this team. i still like his long term prospects but those other players have stepped up.

Was it just me, or did it seem like he took away a lot of Dallas Clark's snaps in the slot as well?

If so, that bodes well for him

When Gonzo comes back how are the passes going to be distributed? Doesn't seem like there is room for Wayne, Clark, Collie, Gonzo and even Garcon to be productive. Wayne and Clark will get theirs, but it seems like it may be hard to predict how the rest will do on a weekly basis.

I heard some good things about him today. Manning said that by the time he arrives, Collie has already watched about 5 hours of film and he has his wife quiz him every night on the playbook. The guy is obviously very commited. Of course I sat him for friggin DeSean Jackson yesterday!

The high % has more to do with Collie's ability than with Manning's confidence.Nonetheless, the high number of targets is a sign that Collie does have Manning's confidence.

or a lousy Titans defense that started one rookie corner for the entire game and asked a second rookie to play the second half after harper broke his arm?

Was the rookie (were the rookies) covering Collie? That would be so Peyton to just pick and pick and pick at the weak spot.Still, crapload of targets hard to overlook.

Saw last night coming from a mile away.. about as obvious as it gets in Fantasy Football without having someone do it for you. Picked him up the previous week, and started him with confidence and smiled as the points rolled in.

I think this is going to be a guessing game each week. Collie, Garcon, Gonzalez...different guy different week.

shows what commitment to excellence gets you . . . you lose a #2 WR?? No problem???? No excuses - you've already had a rookie and a 2nd year player work their tails off to get ready for the season . . .

hard work and preparation pays off . . .

I think Collie has an advantage because he has more experience in the slot and could see more playing time even when Gonzalez returns.

I actually did too (even mentioned it in the sneaky plays thread). I picked him up and started him with confidence. Was shocked to see he wasnt even ranked on most sites WR rankings. Still stuck with my gut and it paid off

EXCELLENT post . . . it pays to be proactive - while MOST articles are reactive - and with you go with YOUR gut, then it feels a lot better when it pays off . . .

Same here. I'm in a PPR, and his targets have been going up since Week 2. Not too much of a reach to think he'd put up very nice numbers against the Titans.I may be in the minority, but I think Garcon may be getting a little too much hype. Esp. in a PPR, when he's more of a home-run threat but getting fewer targets. Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them move Gonzalez outside and keep Collie in the slot.

Tennessee forced everything to the inside because of the rookies on the outside - Manning will go with who is open . . . next game it may be different (against a blitzing team for example) . . . too bad I was too dumb to figure this out before I started Pierre . . .

Gonz is LOCKED in. Collie is LOCKED in at the slot. Gonz replaces Garcon, period. They do not play the same position.

I said as much a week ago - but I've seen compelling evidence to the contrary . . . Manning, Polian and co. like garcon on the outside - Gonzalez is NOT a homerun threat . . . never say never . . .

Sell high. Gonzo is gonna take half his snaps when he comes back. Half the time Gonzo will be outside taking Garcon's spot, the other half Garcon will be outside with Gonzo in the slot.

Didn't cost me anything to pick him up, a couple FAAB bucks.. I have no ties to him and he's a bye week replacement. I'm not "selling" anything. I still have WR's coming up with byes, and I want to see how it plays out when Gonzalez returns. I've got my lottery ticket in the Indy WR sweepstakes! Maybe my number is called, maybe not.. but really, what do you get by selling Collie right now? Someone in a worse situation with not nearly the upside. He's a "hold" and nothing else.

I follow BYU alot as my wife went there. This kid is pretty good. Runs great routes and studies like noone else. Kid works his butt off and knows the offense even as a rookie. He might play slot but next to wayne he is going to be Peytons #2 look. IMO Collie is better than Gonz

Oh you couldn't be more wrong - I root for Utah and anyone BYU plays - just to get under the wifes skin :goodposting: . I will say Collie is much athletic than the typical " White guy " wr. With great hands and adequete speed. Theres a reason Peyton is going to Collie -- he's pretty good.

:coffee: You do realize that Gonzo and Garcon both run the 40 within .02 seconds of each other right? (i.e. they are equally as fast) - or, put another way, Gonzalez is as much a homerun threat as Garcon.

And those posting about Collie's great catch/target ratio:

In 2008, the WR with the highest catch/target % was Wes Welker with 74.5%. Anthony Gonzalez was 2nd among WR with 72.2% - Collie is at 71.4% (which isn't bad - just not as good as Gonzo).
